RaceDeck tiles were in my former garage hangout. You've seen them in my E-Bike videos. This time I'm doing the whole garage floor. Literally, if I can do it, you can do it. This is my second time installing these tiles and I'm using what I learned the first time to make this install easier. There is a small learning curve and I'll share that with you along the way. P.S. This tool is the biggest help to a smooth install. linktw.in/VKwJxY After 3 installs, I wish I would have had this on the first two. Here's the Amazon link to the tile: linktw.in/FzqNlN
Here is a link to my Amazon Store. I own and recommend each product that I have placed in the store. All of the links are organized and easy to find: www.amazon.com/shop/evolution...
I also have a website you can check out for more information and links: www.evolutionarytom.com

Seriously! I didn’t realize the damage I did to my heel with the soft shoes. Actually, I think a rubber mallet is the way to go. It took me months to get rid of the bruising pain in my heel! Glad it helped. -Tom

Now all you need is a pair of tap-dancing shoes and Doris Day music, right? (The one thing I'm not too keen about with these type of floors - how they sound.) That said, I've got the same Diamond Alloy tiles selected for my floor too. Thanks for the tile cutter link, it's half the cost of RaceDeck's cutter!

Thanks for the tutorial. Regarding the cutting tool, I am thinking it could be, for one time project like this, better to rent a cutting tool from HD for 32 dollors a day.

It’s called a laminate flooring shear. Hope you received free shipping we did our garage and we ask an received free shipping to Southwest Florida. We uses 2 different colors for the border instead on doing it all in a single color

Nice job! Great tip about the amazon cutter. I have 18" tiles coming and am not sure how I will cut those yet. The Amazon cutter will be great for the 12" tiles. Thanks for the vid!

@@evolutionaryTom Good call Tom! I ordered a 20" cutter from Amazon ($247) and it worked amazingly well for the 18" tiles. No mess. I tried a jigsaw and yeah what a mess! The shear makes such clean edges. I'm gonna probably sell the smaller 13" cutter I have and keep the 20".

the diamond-plate look is always great. everything that's parked in your garage will now look 10 times better! i did my garage in a 2-part epoxy with flecks, but this definitely beats it. one question: how does it sound when you walk on it...solid? hollow? hope you're enjoying your new digs down there. thanks, Tom
@evolutionaryTom
@evolutionaryTom 3 жыл бұрын
LOL, you are right, CP. It does make stuff look like a million bucks! It has a unique sound to it for sure. Not quite like you're walking on something hollow but you know you are walking on a platform of some kind. Enjoying learning about this place. I'm sure I'll be in honeymoon mode for quite some time.

Laying out the majority of the floor is very simple anyone can do it but when it comes to making the cuts is where the fun starts if one is not good at making the cuts have somebody else who knows what they're doing do it. To do a two car standard garage it's going to cost you over $1,000 measure 10 times and cut once lol

Tom, I just put my floor down and left an expansion gap around the side walls and back wall, however I started up against the garage door track. Should I have left a half inch gap against the door track too? If so, I may have to notch it with a jig saw.
@evolutionaryTom
@evolutionaryTom Жыл бұрын
I did. The whole thing expands together with the heat so anything that is within a half inch of it could be an obstacle during expansion. Hope that helps! -Tom

Carlos. At the time, in 2021, it was just a hair under $2,000. I was able to take advantage of their veteran discount. Go and join The Garage Journal forum for free. Members of that forum can also get a great discount directory from the company. They could then and I'm assuming they still can. Hope that helps.

Do you like to keep your garage tidy or cluttered like so many I've seen over the years?
@evolutionaryTom

How does the water evaporate? What about spills like oil? Does is magically disappear from underneath the tiles? What if I drop a hammer? Will it crack the tile?
@evolutionaryTom
@evolutionaryTom 2 жыл бұрын
I'm no scientist but these are my observations. The water evaporates because it's not air tight. I took up my previous floor at my old house and there were zero issues. And Snow was on that floor when I pulled the snowblower in, ATV, etc. The seams are tight but I think any fluid can work its way in. So for oil, you'd need to just clean that spill up as soon as you notice it. I don't think it would hurt the floor underneath, other than a regular oil stain, if it did get under the tiles. And no, it won't crack if you drop a hammer on it. It has some flex in it and the tiles are not brittle at all. Hope that helps. -Tom

Do not understand the goal with a concrete floor. You placed plain deck on a plain floor ?
@waltfogle3453

Wrong!!! Racedrck instructions specifically state to start in the front corner. You cannot use the Racedeck transition entry/end pieces if you lay the tiles in this method.
