It really is insane when you think about it. His playing and riff writing was so advanced and mature for 19, he was blowing 99.9% of his peers twice his age off of the stage. Even when he couldn't legally order a beer, he already had it all as a guitarist. Insane technical ability, style, melody, atmosphere, the ability to write catchy riffs, play slow or shred at lightning speeds, and most importantly a lot of grit and balls. Everything he played was a kick in the teeth and then some. There are bad musicians, good musicians, great musicians, and a very select few who seem to tap into some kind of mystical higher power. Paul Gilbert fits into that last category, but what makes him so special is how fast and early he seemed to tap into it.
