8 years late LOL but, THANKS. I am finally doing my LS swap and using 99-01 plastic tank, with this fuel pump/harness kit.

Did you do this?
@davebarron59392 жыл бұрын
@@RocSteadyNY Yes I did, works great. I used it along with a 4th gen tank and pump bucket from Hawks motorsports. Everything fit well and solves a lot of little detail problems, as an example. The GM pump basket unit comes with the pressure control valve right in it.

Make sure the purple wires for the fuel level sender are going into the internal harness inside the tank are going to the proper locations. You can’t just swap them. They go to different locations on the PCM.

If You are doing this in an older car it's smart to replace the fuel level sender potensiometer with one corresponding to Your cars instrument. I have a 99 tank in my 94 camaro and replaced the 300-80 Ohm Potmeter with a 0-90 Ohm To make the fuel gauge work.
@JEGsGarage6 жыл бұрын
This is a great tip. Back when I did my swap, that info wasnt available, so I winged it, and used a programmable fuel level gauge. If I were to go back to stock dash for some reason, or if I get a new set of gauges, Im going to swap to the standard 0-90 sender so I can use a cheaper gauge vs programmable. That sucker was pricey!

So did you swap the potentiometer from the 94 unit to the 99 sender ? Or what did you use I have a buddy doing a 99+ tank and pump in his 96 ls1 swapped car

Yes I'm also doing a similar build on my 92 Camaro. And was wondering the fuel sender unit if there's a different part number needed to run on stock gauges while using a 2000 fuel tank and pump

Both tubes connect to the top of the pump itself. And then up to the "hat" of the sender. If thats what you mean...

From 31:00 putting that filter sock on at the bottom of the bucket I am having alot of trouble getting it on. When I try to put the new sock on I push the pickup thing up and out it doesnt hold solid like yours does....any tips?
@JEGsGarage10 жыл бұрын
It was TOUGH to get on. You'll see that I ended up tapping it on. I might have been able to push it on, but it was tight. So few taps seated it fully. I would just give it some persuasion and make sure the metal ring is fully on there. It'll stay.
@itzRizzle92 жыл бұрын
I’m going to assume it’s a similar process for a 93z
@JEGsGarage2 жыл бұрын
If I'm not mistaken, the 93z tank is closer to the 82-92 tanks and you'll need to cut a much bigger hole. The sender is more in the middle of the "hump", and the lines extend away from the sender as solid pieces. So you'll need to cut them. But double check me on that.

Hey man quick question. When you bought this off Texas speedway did you get a harness to go along with it ? Or will the factory harness of a 01 camaro be okay ?? Thanks
@JEGsGarage10 жыл бұрын
Factory harness on an 01 F-body would plug right in. You arent actually changing anything on the outside of the bucket. Just the internal parts of the sender assembly. HOWEVER, I strong suggest looking into their hotwire kit. Some people thing they're a waste, but after tearing apart the 99 donor car that I got, they use really thing gauge wire, and even being an 01, its 13 years old already! Man thats crazy to think... Anyway, the hotwire kit gives you a nice big relay and heavy gauge wire, and I saw more consistent performance when I upgraded. I was using the 99's wiring from fuse block to gas tank BTW... I look at it like this. Its just like a headlight harness upgrade. If you add relays and heavy gauge wire to your headlights, they get brighter, because they're getting more power. Same idea. You dont have to get it right away if you dont want. You should be able to run things without it. Just my $.02!!!
@XxbrandonxX23410 жыл бұрын
Man you are a big help! This might sound stupid but with harness do I get? When I'm on Texas speedway it has a 3 different options to choose from and I'm new to the whole fuel pump upgrades ..
@JEGsGarage10 жыл бұрын
XxbrandonxX234 Well, there are really only two harnesses. One is for the 1998. The other is for the 99-02, which is what you want. Did you buy the pump already? If not and you want the harness, get the package deal. Its a good deal and saves you a little money. 135-RFPK-001 is the whole kit. If you want just the harness, 135-FPWK-017A is what you want. Either way, I recommend also grabbing the chassis ground upgrade. Its like $12. Pretty simple piece of wire with connector ends on it, but grounds are important, and its a nice upgrade. I always recommened adding extra grounds, esp if you have stereo amps, or extra lighting. Or even stock. Just a couple extra braided ground straps can make a difference.
@XxbrandonxX23410 жыл бұрын
Thanks man this is a big help! I am planning on soon changing out my pump once I finish with a couple of things :p and just to be on a better safe side I should get the harness with a ground ? Once again thanks man!
@JEGsGarage10 жыл бұрын
XxbrandonxX234 For the price, I would. The harness is nice. Im a big fan of beefing up the electrical system. This will allow your pump to run at its full potential and its fairly easy to install. The upgraded body ground is a nice add on for the price also. You dont HAVE to... If you want to go further, you could research the "Big 3 Upgrade". This discusses the main battery connections, and I believe the ground also. You can see some of the success stories from people upgrading their main power items. I consider the fuel pump a main power item, since it runs pretty much all the time. Good luck!
@hoodlumcorp10 жыл бұрын
I see that the fuel pump comes with the wiring harness. Do you have to drop the tank to install the new harness or can you still use the trap door mod. Maybe the harness doesnt plug into the fuel pump directly but somewhere else on the tank?
@JEGsGarage10 жыл бұрын
Are you talking about the hotwire kit? If so, it does plug into the fuel sender assembly. If you dont have an access panel in your hatch, you'll need to drop the tank. I installed my hotwire kit through the access panel. I did have to let the straps loose a little, just to help get the bigger plugs fished up there. Some speculate that the hotwire kit isnt worth it. But...my wiring was like 25 years old, and pretty small gauge. So to me, it was worth it knowing my pump is getting all the power it wants.

@JEGsGarage8 жыл бұрын
Hey Timathy. I'm running a 99-02 tank, as well as the bulk head wiring into the car. So I got the kit for the 99-02. The car chassis is almost the same from 82-02, so the wire fits nice and works great. I saw much more consistent fuel pressure with the hot kit.

@JEGsGarage11 жыл бұрын
Eh...its hard to say since I hadnt had it fired up with the old pump in so long. It might be a LITTLE louder during prime. But once the motor is running you certainly cant hear it. Its not like some of the bigger pumps or dual pump set ups where you can hear it clearly over everything. Its an awesome upgrade as far as I can tell.

@@dart760 it was from Autometer. Depending what gauge style you pick, the part number is different. But any programmable should work. You basically tell it what's empty and what's full. Ohm range, or direction, doesn't matter.
