Rachael, did you ever end up putting the mantle on there? We're about to do our fireplace just like yours. (Although we're using cinder block to build a hearth since there's not one there right now.) But we were trying to figure out how to add a mantle after you finish this part of it. Does the mantle need to "rest" on top of the part that comes out from the wall at the top? Let us know if you did end up putting the mantle on there. Thank you! Great job!

What do you mean by adding a layer of finishing plaster? @8:44? Is that more stucto-lite?

I’m looking to do the same thing! Thank you for such a great tutorial. What finishing plaster do you recommend using?

the metal pieces fit perfectly to your fireplace, did you have to get them cut or did you do that yourselves? if so, what tool did you use? love the final result😍

What did you use for your 1st coat on the brick?

What type of plaster did you put over the mortar? Just basic plaster or is there some sort of fire resistant type.

we used Structo-Lite on the top layer and fire resistant brick underneath.
