The thing that annoyed me most about Glee is that characters seem to grow up, mature, and become better people, then the writers just go nope! Like Mr. Shue saying he won’t play favorites with the glee club and give all the kids a chance at a solo. Then he just sort of forgets. They kinda regressed both Rachel and Santana’s characters for the sake of a stupid feud. They kinda forget all about the friendships Mercedes forms and forget Quinn exists altogether.

Tbh I think both have their strengths and weaknesses. Based on what we see in the show, I would say Rachel is more versatile (could very much be bc she sings more) but I think Mercedes is better at singing the R&B and soul songs they give her than Rachel is at singing Musical Theatre.

I really liked Rachel's character in the first season and also a little bit of second. I feel like she was more of a link between the other more three-dimensional characters rather than protagonist, Rachel really needed the other characters to work that's why she was the only character to form very specific types of bonds with almost every character and that is why the second half of the show isn't good, they needed the other characters to balance her character. I feel like the reason i never emotionally connected with her is because they keep giving reasons to simpathyze with other characters and posionated her as an oppressor, watch Weels that's where is very clear
