The real problem with this version of Snow White is their complete ignorance for why a remake is made in the first place: you do it to capitalize on an existing fan base that, for whatever faults you may think it had, still loves the original. Why would anyone care for a live action adaptation of Snow White (which, like many of the live action remakes, nobody was asking for…), from people who have open contempt for the original? At minimum you should be able to make the case as to why this property you're trying to make money off of has any value, but if your flagship messaging is that it was "weird" and needs to be fixed, you automatically lose the very audience you were hoping to attract.

Social Media has lifted the "veil of mystique" off of celebrities. Well, I guess it's no social media's fault. It's the fault of celebrities that are full of themselves and attention-hungry. I still do not think they have realized that they are shooting themselves in the foot.
@WulfyrАй бұрын
That's what they had PR people for. It was to stop them from performing petulant and self destructive acts like this. Social media took that filter away and now for some reason some of them feel qualified to tell the rest of us what to think. I'm actually kind of glad that social media allows us to see these toxic and privileged people for who they truly are.
@kostantza1Ай бұрын
It was a two-way street actually. PR was taking care of their image (admittedly, more often than not impeding on personal liberty), but the whole construction of celebrities was intended to be remote, faraway and sorta unapproachable, representing an ideal away from the drabness of ordinary life for people. They might go crazy when Lana Turner appeared to spend a day in a low-income hairstylist's as a publicity stunt, but they never wanted Lana Turner to actually go there every day and spill her soul out to them. They didn't want celebrities to be like them, they wanted to see they were able to be like them. Social media made random people able to have a flamewar with Oscar winners and music legends, and then these people were going out attempting to play at being stars. You can't be a star when you've exchanged words on twitter with a professional troll. I'm not saying worshipping celebrities like demigods was good btw.But it was certainly more appropriate than celebrities expecting to be worshipped while doing nothing but showing around that they're petty, ignorant, little people, and that they look down on their fans (something that, ironically, whether through moderation or circumstance, very few celebrities of old Hollywood were accused of).
@pohjanakka4992Ай бұрын
When it comes to movies, that has also happened now at the time when Hollywood lost its grip and has seemingly stopped hiring people based on their skills and merit and started hiring too many people based more on who they are, not how good they are at their professions, and the quality of the movies they make has tanked (it's not just their "activism" for certain ideologies and putting that in all the stories they make because you can, or could, make what is obnoxiously promoting something but is still an entertaining story, if you are good enough at telling stories). So audiences who still want to get good, entertaining movies are primed to hate everybody who seems like one of the examples as why they no longer get what they want.

Gadot was right there supporting this crap. Some people try to excuse her by saying she was just acting like she was happy with all this and was "being professional" Bullsh*t. Gadot just doesn't have the talent to act that believably, so the excuse falls flat. Is this a pretty privilege thing? Or is it a case where you have a villain, you need a good guy to balance it out? I'm leaning towards pretty privilege. I thought it was funny when Zegler said "We wrote a story....". I highly doubt Zegler or Gadot had anything to do with writing the story. It's also positivity privilege? Like, Gal Gadot doesn't remotely exude the same energy as Rachel Zegler. She's vapid, moderately talented and pretty deep in the Hollywood mindset, but she's not toxic at all. Rachel acts like acting in Snow White was a burden to her and a gift to the masses, that was principally what got people salty with her, because many celebrities spew such nonsense about their movies, yet they don't invoke such visceral reaction.
@TheTrueMelissaАй бұрын
IMO, Gadot was trying to help. Zegler was clearly hurtling towards more extreme claims, and Gadot tried to save it with "She's not going to be saved by the prince" -- a much smaller claim which is also true of, e.g., Tangled and The Little Mermaid. To me, Gadot's delivery sounds like she's explaining Zegler's meaning to the reporter, though in fact she's diluting it. Zegler was too self-centered to notice and grab the lifeline, though, and just kept ranting narcissistically. Zegler later sided with Palestine in the current conflict, so Gadot may be done with trying to help her.

It's probably difficult to put yourself on a stage. She might have been fed messaging about female empowerment that made her pronoid. A stage actor would be exposed to their audience. If the audience didn't show up or left looking bored, that would be a blow. But a tv or film actor or musician has the option of being hated by hundreds of people, then thousands of people and then millions. With youtubers, I advise them to never read the comments. It'll drive them mad. Similarly, if you're a young actress, you have the conundrum of what to do if the feedback is "oh, you're so wonderful". The danger is letting it go to your head. Or if the feedback is "dear god, please never act again", then they have the issue of taking it to heart or having an emotional need to reject it. With Ziegler, you wonder how she became like she is. You wonder if she's some kind of accident of excessive self-esteem. But I think the solution would be for her to surround herself with people who can be honest with her (from a position of wanting her to be a good person), whether that's dialling down the hatred (but extracting constructive criticism) or muting the praise. A negative outcome would be if she seeks advise from other celebrities who are high on their own supply. If you were a celebrity and loudly asked 'how do you make peace with the criticism?', one of the responses might be DIddy saying 'Well, I like to throw parties'.

But she was terrible in her West Side Story interviews as well! 😅 the whole "Do you speak the language? Does it matter?" thing is preposterous because YES it matters! most of the people in Hollywood live in a bubble where they are only surrounded by people who feel just like them so they aren't used to having any push back and when they do get it double down because everyone around them reinforces the idea that its everybody else who is wrong because everyone around them needs them to be successful to get their chunk in some ways im sympathetic to the reality that these people go through where they are gaslit by everyone around them and cant see it because of their ego

Honestly. She is an actress with some talent, Mr Spielberg saw it and gave her an introduction to Stardom. Then she felt above her station and started opening her mouth, not understanding that she is an actress, not an world leader who's words matter. As you say, she was just chiming in on whatever seemed trending at the time, such as opening her mouth during the writers strike; She is not an writer!?. I am sorry for her that this persons movie career, is basically done at this point. She could have been an Hollywood Star, all she had to do was keep her stupid mouth shut.

I find her kind of annoying myself. She needs to realize she's in a bubble where she's isolated from reality and consequences.
@yakhoovesАй бұрын
I remember how she kept saying “we wrote a story..” “we didn’t do that this time,” like honey… you’re a 21 year old brand new actress who barely anyone knows. You literally don’t have the experience in professional and a personal sense, to be out there berating classic movies and folklore. No one is asking for a 21 or 2 year old upper middle class girl to be “correcting” cultural art… she carries herself with a smug condescension that is detestable to most normal people, because it’s obvious that her attitude is based on nothing but maybe the fans in her personal KZbin channel…. Which we keep learning that doesn’t reflect the majority of opinions by any means… I personally believe she has been like this for her entire life, and likely was made to believe that she was smarter, more talented, and more beautiful than she actually was. She has major Elizabeth Holmes vibes with me. I too am a Latino guy who grew up in the upper middle class. And I’m older than she is, and I can barely point to anything more than a few mean comments at school as the extent of the “racism” I’ve ever faced… so when I see her waving that flag around, it’s annoying, because as a brown kid growing up in the 90’s, if I didn’t really didn’t experience racism that in any way hindered me, I have a hard time believing that the girl who was once written about as “the next It girl,” and hired on for movie rolls, is somehow experiencing real adversity as a mixed race actress… I totally understand wanting to give her grace for her age and general inexperience, but I guess sometimes, people have a point when they’re just sick of some people’s behavior….

She's probably not that highly compensated. She's had a handful of roles. I think when Brie Larson got cast as Captain Marvel, I think her salary was a few million - but Brie was an oscar winner with years of being highly regarded (before it started to go to her head). So you'd assume Ziegler is on less. Some of that would be eaten up by her agent and having a celebrity lifestyle. Her career is nascent. Some of the hate is likely a result of the press white knighting for her. With Y2K, a publication that gave that film a negative review described Zielger as a 'charm factory'. If people are telling you she's wonderful, that creates an urgency to pushing back. If people were presented with someone as a struggling actor and understood to be unpleasant, they wouldn't have the same drive to put the person in their place. Her roles selection has been largely musical. But it's scattered. Westside story was more classical. The Hunger Games thing appeals to young women (and only young women). Spellbound was.... just why? Then you get into non musical roles. Y2K was low budget with a first time director. Shazam 2 was... just a job. If you're established you likely have a particular type of character or genre of film. Y2K isn't something you'd sign onto if you had better offers. And that would mean that some of her roles might be highly mercenary. She's there for the money. She doesn't love the property or whatever. But being a celebrity means that people hate you waaaay more than say going to a story and engaging with a supermarket clerk who seems like a bit of a tool. To me, that lowers the temperature a bit. If she's just a person, then she's the same substance as me. I make mistakes despite knowing better. If I hope to get my act together and find an ounce of grace, then I would hope for her to do the same. Backlash would be difficult. The options would be to believe it and feel tiny. Or reject it to protect oneself and embrace yourself as perfect. If this is what celebrities turns her into, then she might consider the possibility that it would be better to do something else. Or get honest feedback from someone. If 1,000,000 people hate you, you could get a friend to sum up the issue while remaining compassionate. I think there has to be a middle ground between emotional exposure and needing to see yourself as infallible. It's easier to take off your armor if you're not under a barrage of arrows.
@sammysstopmotionoas1996Ай бұрын
Well Jester is in your name so of course you would be a little foolish. Ps. I am kidding, you are smart but just make honest mistakes.

This is my second video of yours that I am watching and I want to give you massive props for having something that a lot of people do not; the confidence to admit when you are wrong. That ain't easy; a problem that I struggle with as well. But with someone in your position as a content creator, it means a lot because I witnessed another content creator that couldn't admit when he was wrong and it was downright embarrassing. It is just a common decency that is scarce, so therefore is refreshing. And with the content I have seen so far with your perspective, I guess you just got another subscriber.

I'm not against second chances and I like that you wanted to give her one, but you forgot that people have to ask for a second chance, which means that they understand they need one. Zegler's fatal flaw is not her personality, but that she doesn't know what to say and what not to say in puplic. I don't think we should feel bad for her either, because she was granted a big chance and blew it. If you don't have what is needed in such a privileged position, you have no right to be there.

We've seen a lot of new comers enter the business, most gradually work their way up from small parts to bigger and better things, few get thrown into the deep end and become part of these big movies and some have thrived especially some child actors just starting out. She has been part of some pretty big movies and has yet to really establish herself and thrived yet she acts like she's a veteran actress, yes there are celebrities who share their opinions on everything, but at least they've been around for years and proven themselves and are authentic about what they believe, she's just acting like an established person never revealing herself and we see that we see her trying too hard and coming off as fake, in the end she will become a cautionary tale to new comers and a prime example of how not to behave when you're still trying to prove yourself.
