nice perspective, I love UCSD and have only been there related to the sports programs, which there are a lot of...no Football, but the basketball program is live (soon D1) and students have full access...there are also many other sports, men's volleyball killed it last year, swimming, golf and the Lacrosse coach is a fav of mine. There is also a lot invested in rec sports, what I love about UCSD is the variety, if you want it you can find it.

@RachelASeo6 жыл бұрын
Congratulations! Super excited for you :):) Glad this video helped. As for International Relations/Business, the only thing I know about it is that it's kind of the only business major UCSD has to offer. I have a couple of friends who are doing it because they're trying to go into accounting, but apparently it's really hard for them to do so because UCSD isn't really a university known for business. However, I think there are a lot of things that you can probably do with it, so try looking more into that! There are also a lot of business orgs on campus that you can join. Hope this helps!

I recently got accepted into Muir College as a Psychology Major with a Specialization in Social Psychology. I’m a little nervous about the classes, since senioritis is hitting me HARD right now😂 and I’m scared that I won’t regain the motivation I’ll need to succeed at UCSD. Are the classes hard? Do they require you to study for hours in your room, or do they allow you to have a social life? Also I’m going to be commuting from North Country, so I’m concerned about my schedule. I just wanted to know a couple things. Like how many times a week are your classes? And how long is each class? Anyway, I’ve been watching some of your videos to ease the anxiety I keep getting just from the thought of going to a UC. Fortunately your optimism helps a lot so thank you very much for that, keep making more videos! :)))
@RachelASeo6 жыл бұрын
Hey, congratulations! I totally remember being in that state of mind--I think my brain shut off for the last three months of senior year, lol. Don't worry about not being able to regain motivation. Because summer is so insanely long, you'll be aching for college by the end haha. Anyway, at the current moment, classes aren't super hard. Freshman year has been pretty chill for me honestly in terms of coursework, and you have a lot more time in college than you do in high school, so it's not that hard to have a social life. In terms of class schedule, most classes are either Monday-Wednesday-Friday and fifty minutes long, or Tuesday-Thursday, 110 minutes long. Depending on how you schedule your classes, you can have anywhere from 0-5 classes a day, roughly. It's nothing like a high school schedule (looking back, I have no idea how I survived in high school!). I'm super glad my videos are helpful, and I will definitely be making more UCSD-based content :)

I’m wondering if you know how easy it is/ if it’s even possible to switch which college you’ve been admitted into. Also how’s the view/ location of the sixth residence halls
@RachelASeo6 жыл бұрын
It is possible to switch into different colleges, but I think it's pretty hard, and tbh getting into a college you don't necessarily want isn't that big of a deal on campus--I haven't heard of anyone switching colleges. In my opinion, your college doesn't really play a huge role in influencing your college experience; most students just take it as a fun way to identify with something besides UCSD. As for Sixth, I absolutely love it here. The location is near the bottom of campus, and the res halls kinda look like a summer camp--there's a lot of trees and grass and raccoons (lol). Even though it's at the bottom of campus, it's really close to Price Center and the UCSD bookstore. We have an interesting reputation, but don't let what anyone says about Sixth bring you down. It's a great place to live and has been an awesome experience for me thus far, and I wouldn't want to change anything about it! (Plus, you can't beat the GEs or the writing sequence.)

So..I got into Marshall College under political science major and I’m having trouble deciding on whether to attend UCSD or another school and the fact that there are barely any videos of people attending Marshall college or even mentioning it it’s really hard for me to decide any advice ? Also is it going to be harder to choose dorms and classes if I wait to enroll until mid April?
@RachelASeo6 жыл бұрын
Ahhh, Marshall has the best food! And being a poli sci major in it is good because it's super social justicey and a lot of the GEs are geared towards that! (I mean, it's named after Thurgood Marshall.) And I think that the UCSD poli sci department, while underrated, is good--I have a few friends who are poli sci majors and the classes seem really interesting. And no, as long as you SIR by May 1st, I'm almost one hundred percent sure that when you SIR doesn't affect your enrollment time for dorms or classes. Hope this helps!

Hey, Maia! Congratulations! Ahhh congrats! I'm currently in the res halls and I love them because it's really easy to be social and meet lots of people. However, the Matthews apartments are bigger and have kitchens (res halls don't), so it just kind of depends what you want! I'd recommend doing res halls, because first year = lots of people = make friends! But like that isn't some people's style, so it's definitely up to you :)

Hey Rachel! I got into Warren as a literatures in English major, I was wondering, is it hard to change majors in UCSD?
@RachelASeo6 жыл бұрын
Hi Maryam! I'm a lit major too (yay!). Changing your major depends on what major you're trying to switch into. A lot of STEM majors are capped, and Computer Science is notoriously hard to get into, so I'd reference the UCSD website for more in-depth information. If it's another humanities major, however, it likely shouldn't be too hard. Good luck!
@tylerfeildway30476 жыл бұрын
I got into Sixth for a Behavioral Cognitive Neuroscience major and I was wondering how selective that major was. I’m too busy and far to visit so I was wondering if you take classes with people out of your colleges? Regarding dining, would you be more open with an unlimited dining plan so you don’t have to worry about eating too much at once? And do you like UCSD? I kinda have my heart set on Umichigan but I’m very curious about UCSD since I got into their neuroscience program
@RachelASeo6 жыл бұрын
Hi Tyler - Congratulations on both UCSD and UMich! I honestly don't know how selective cognitive neuroscience is, but I have several friends who are cog sci, so I think it's a pretty popular major here. To answer your other questions - Yes, we take classes with people out of our colleges! The only times we take classes with people specifically in our colleges are with our college-specific writing sequences; besides that, the people you're with are essentially based on your major and what general education courses you're taking. As for dining, an unlimited plan is nice, yes, but it's also restricted based on your number of swipes. Also for UCSD, depending on how much you eat, you can buy a smaller dining plan and a larger dining plan. And if you run out of dining dollars by the end of the quarter, you can buy more from other people, often for half the price. So I wouldn't worry too much about running out! And yes, I love UCSD! I love campus life because it's pretty chill and not super competitive, and the people I've met all seem to be on my wavelength. College in general, though, is pretty awesome, so I'm sure you'll love it wherever you decide to go!

Are you familiar with the transfer process? i just got accepted to Revelle College for Fall!! :) And i was wondering if you have any information for someone who might want to switch the colleges? thanks in advance your videos are great! :-)
@RachelASeo4 жыл бұрын
Hi - congratulations on getting accepted! Unfortunately I'm not super familiar with the transfer process, but switching colleges is extremely rare and generally discouraged (there's a lengthy process involved - academicaffairs.ucsd.edu/_files/ug-ed/uaac/ICTCriteria.pdf). Even though all the colleges have "stereotypes" in terms of GEs and location, all of their academic schedules are structured to fit within a four-year plan, and location for transfers doesn't matter that much because most of them will be housed in the Village, which is completely separate from where everything else is on campus.
@casualgalore4 жыл бұрын
@@RachelASeo thank you so much! i emailed them back and they responded very similarly in terms of the process and basically, transfers would have to be admitted for the entire year to their assigned college- then after the first year, they can petition to transfer but it never a guarantee. It's good to know they designed it to fit the four year plan, it is just very intimidating for revelle in terms of their Grad requirements. :/ but thank you so much!!!
@ZiemzyOG6 жыл бұрын
Hey, so I got accepted into UCSD in Revelle College but they didn't accept me as an engineering major (which i applied for). They accepted me as undeclared. How would you say the process of declaring a major is in UCSD, specifically declaring engineering haha. I'm really interested in UCSD but don't know if it's worth the risk of coming in as undeclared. Any clarification would be great!
@RachelASeo6 жыл бұрын
Hey Alex! I'm by no means an expert on this, but I know a lot of STEM majors at UCSD are capped, which is probably why you got accepted undeclared. I'm not sure how hard it is to get into engineering, but I imagine it's at least a little bit competitive (though probably not as bad as CS lol). I have no idea how hard it would be to transfer in terms of the risk, but I'd A) google it, and B) talk to a counselor or someone else who's had a similar experience. Hope this helps!

Rachel A. Seo could you please do a video on the different types of meal plans and options and how they are included in our student package or a video about how the student package works in general?
@RachelASeo4 жыл бұрын
Hi, so it's a dining dollar system (I think I explain it in this video?? kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5mVmYeCgt6Afck), which means that they give you a set number of dining dollars at the beginning of the year to spend at any dining hall. Eating at the halal section would not cost extra; it would just be included in your dining dollars. The reason why I haven't done a video on the specific options is because I think they change at least every few years, so a video like that wouldn't necessarily be super helpful to everyone who watches my channel in the future. If you're stressing out about that now, though, don't worry about it, because they definitely let you know how it's all going to work out over the course of the spring / summer. Just keep an eye on your email and look at the UCSD website!

what do you have to say about revelle college?
@RachelASeo6 жыл бұрын
Revelle has the most GEs and the hardest writing sequence, but if you're a STEM major, particularly in bio, you're going to have to take a lot of the GE classes anyway so it works out! Revelle also has a really nice market and good food and is, in my opinion, one of the nicest parts of campus.

I’ve heard it’s easier to double major at UCSD compared to other colleges. Is this true? And if so what makes it more feasible to double major at UCSD
@RachelASeo6 жыл бұрын
I think it just depends on which college you're in and what majors you're trying to get. If you're in a college with less GEs, you're not required to take as many classes, so you have more time to take other classes. If you're a humanities major (comm, lit, vis arts, etc.), you can probably double major easily. I think if anything, it's easier to minor in something (or multiple things), because a lot of times college gen ed requirements will overlap with specific minors; for example, Warren makes you take a bunch of "areas of concentration" general ed classes, which I've heard are easily transferred to a minor.

thanks for the info! My son is accepted into Sixth College as a classics major. I have a question about registering classes as a freshmen, is it difficult to get a spot in the classes you want?
@RachelASeo6 жыл бұрын
Hi, Sunny! Thanks for watching! So far, my experience registering for classes has been pretty good. I've had to waitlist on a few occasions, but I've always been able to get classes that I needed for the quarter. For fall, enrollment times are assigned randomly; however, after that, your enrollment time is based on how many credits you have coming into college, so if your son has a good number of AP credits, he'll have an earlier enrollment time and, therefore, will have a better chance at getting his classes. It also definitely helps being a humanities major, because the majority of the university is STEM. Hope this helps!

Hi! Are there any popular school events at ucsd on the daily? Thank you!
@RachelASeo6 жыл бұрын
I'm not 100% sure what you mean by this, but there are lots of different things going on every single day. One thing I can think of is Therapy Fluffies, which happens weekly. Basically, they bring in a bunch of puppies for students to play with. Don't worry - there are lots of things that go on every week!
@victoriaannadoan6 жыл бұрын
thank you for your response! I was also wondering do you need a big backpack or would a small/medium one be okay for the daily? Thank you again.
@RachelASeo6 жыл бұрын
I use a one-pouch Jansport (here's a random one I found on the Internet lol: www.eastbay.com/product/model:62774/sku:5015XP/jansport-superbreak-backpack/red-tape/?SID=7726&inceptor=1&cm_mmc=SEM-_-PLA-_-Google-_-5015xp&gclid=CjwKCAjwsdfZBRAkEiwAh2z65l-y6j69Ni0xYGhD2m4n78NQb24Cyg-LZRqWn6ySE0onQhNi4mDkuBoCyc4QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds); I used it in high school and it works great for me! But a lot of people use like big backpacks (for ex: High Sierra), so it kind of just depends. I'd recommend learning how to downsize if you're the kind who likes carrying around a lot of stuff because the campus is really big and hilly so you're going to be walking a lot.

Do you feel the quality of humanities classes/professors suffers bc of the emphasis on STEM/research? I'm a philosophy major, so info is super limited. Thanks!
@RachelASeo6 жыл бұрын
I absolutely do not think that the quality of humanities classes/professors suffers! I have taken several literature/humanities courses, and honestly have had such an awesome experience with nearly all of them. I haven't taken any philosophy classes, so I can't really speak for that department, but thus far I've had a really awesome time in the classes I've taken. (And I think a lot of it has to do with UCSD's location--professors want to live in SD cuz it's lowkey got like the best weather in the world, lol.)

I'm thinking of transferring, but I'm a Journalism (communication) student at Drake University right now. What advice can you give me based on your experience at UCSD?
@RachelASeo5 жыл бұрын
we don't have a journalism major here, although we have a communications major and a few different student-run newspapers you're able to join! that's the extent of what i know - i don't think we're heralded as a *huge* journalism school, but there are definitely opportunities here if you network well & look for them!
@yj61185 жыл бұрын
If you don’t mind a larger student population and a little less prestige, San Diego state has a good journalism program. I believe some students get to intern with KPBS because it’s on/by the campus...from what I’ve seen. Might be worth looking into it if you want to be in SD

The professors are sadistic and make things pointlessly hard with a campus that discourages creative pranks. SDSU is more practical and teaches you more useful knowledge. Employers want a mix of SDSU and UCSD grads as well. The marine biology PHD grads all become postdocs and only 3 out of 42 of them had real jobs.
@RachelASeo6 жыл бұрын
Pat F I personally haven’t ever encountered any sadistic professors, and many of the classes I’ve taken have been very creative! I definitely agree with the fact that employers are looking for diverse employees, though, and I believe PhDs in general are hard to utilize in a major market, although I’m not very experienced and admittedly don’t know anything.

I absolutely love Sixth! It's been a really interesting, mostly positive experience, and even though we get memed a lot and people look down on us, I highkey think we're at least the second-best college at UCSD. Camp Snoopy is fun because you get to hang out with a bunch of your building-mates; we don't have that many GEs, and our writing sequence is pretty easy. Foodworx also has bomb salads and sandwiches. You're literally not going to get any other experience like the Sixth experience on campus, so I'm sure you'd have a blast :) Congrats on getting in!
