Hi all! Just wanted to let anyone watching this know that some of the information in this video is now outdated - Canyon Vista has been revamped (it actually looks really nice now lol), Foodworx is about to get updated, and a whole slew of changes is about to happen to UCSD. Most of the information is still accurate; there's just a lot of changes happening!

lol 20+ years later (I’m class of 1992) and OVT is still one of the best dining options, it was number one when I was at UCSD.

I was obsessed with roots! I graduated in 2014 but this was a blast from the past. I would always get dirty chai lattes from the coffee place across from roots, paninis from that cafe in the main food court. Ohh and that hippie-ish spot with the lunch buffet in Muir I think?

I was wondering if you could make a video addressing the grading system @ UCSD and how difficult/chill the academic part of the school is compared to other UCs. Also how important GPA is for grad schools? And is UCSD “cutthroat”?
@RachelASeo6 жыл бұрын
Hi Cindy! I'll add this one to my list of potential video ideas :) I think that UCSD is more chill than UCLA or Berkeley (which is nice! I've heard campus culture there can be pretty unhealthy), but it's still competitive and people work really hard. (Compared to a lot of people here, I'm lowkey a slacker lol.) Academics-wise, I think it just depends on what professor/class/class load you take, and how much you yourself can handle. Also, for grad school--GPA is important regardless; I mean, obviously, it's going to be really important for med school. I wouldn't say that UCSD is cutthroat, although I guess that kind of depends on what kinds of people you surround yourself with! But overall my experience here has been the perfect mix of chill and competitive, so I'm really happy.

I've been binge-watching all your UCSD videos, they're so helpful! Do you have any recommendations on getting around campus or is walking just the best way to deal with the hill? Thank you!
@RachelASeo6 жыл бұрын
Omg that's awesome - glad they're helpful! Besides walking, people like to board, scooter, or bike. Biking is probably the fastest, but being on any vehicle is a slight hassle because most people walk, so you kind of have to watch out for people (but I guess that's a given!). There are also some places where you can get a ticket for biking, and sometimes bikes can get stolen, so I'd just watch out for that.

Hi Claudia, I normally chose the lowest dining plan because I typically had dining dollars left over, and plus if you need extras at the end, you can buy them for cheaper from other students :)

Hi! I'm currently binge watching all your UCSD videos ahhhaaha nand I appreciate the variety of info you cover in them!! I was wondering if you know anything about the art major? The visual art department? Or the facilities? You said you're a humanities major at UCSD which, idk maybe you know a bit about what its like being an art major there..? I am an applying transfer so I haven't heard back yet but I'm just so hopeful :))))
@RachelASeo6 жыл бұрын
Glad they're helpful! ICAM is the main art major, and the visual arts department/facilities are located in Sixth and Warren! I am a lit major, and I've actually met more ICAM majors than I have lit majors, lol, so you definitely won't be alone. There's some cool art pieces on campus, and ICAM is super cool because you study a pretty large variety of things--from what I understand, it's kind of like a cross between visual arts/film/music/computer science/technology stuff, so it seems pretty flexible?? I'm not an expert and that's basically all I know though, so I'd check the website for more concrete information. Good luck; hope you get in! :)

Hi!! I love your videos and I’m wondering if there are any dining halls that are like buffet style. Thanks!!
@RachelASeo6 жыл бұрын
technically, pines, cafe ventanas, and canyon vista are all "buffet style" (they're set up to look like buffets); however, all dining halls function on a pay-per-item dining dollar system (so like, even though pines, cafe v, and cv all look like they're buffets, you have to pay for each item you take). hope this helps!
@caligal10906 жыл бұрын
im confused...can you not use the meal plan meals in any of these dining halls? you keep mentioning how expensive the meals are but idk what you mean by that
@RachelASeo6 жыл бұрын
Your meal plan is based on your dining dollars - everyone starts out with a certain number of dining dollars at the beginning, and then you purchase food with those throughout the year. So technically you have to "buy" all your food.

@RachelASeo6 жыл бұрын
If you know someone/meet someone who's in the same college you are, then you can request them as a roommate! But if you don't want to choose, you can do it randomly :)

How expensive are meal plans when you’re first starting out in college? If we only eat halal food would we be paying more for a specialized meal plan? It says we have access to a dietician... do we have to pay more for that?
@lamiasiddiqui46934 жыл бұрын
Could u please make a video on how the complete student package is like with the meal plan and how much it would cost?
@RachelASeo4 жыл бұрын
Everyone uses the dining dollar system, regardless of your diet; they give you a few choices in regards to how many dining dollars you want to buy at the beginning of the school year. And I believe that the dietician's services are free, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

Something I’ve always wondered, are dining halls only for students living on campus? Like do you just get food there using the meal plan or can students living off campus eat at dining halls and buy food from there?
@RachelASeo6 жыл бұрын
Dining halls are for everyone--commuters, students living on campus, professors, faculty, visitors, etc.! However, only students living on campus have dining plans; everyone else has to pay real money to eat there.
