Fake "antique" doll faces are generally unattractive to the more artistic eye. Once you've seen quite a few antique bisque originals, spotting a fake becomes much easier.

Love to learn from you all. I haven't collected this type of doll but would love to get one of Linda's reproductions eventually. I definitely buy what I love NOT what I think I can resell. Other people do that and it's their intention to do that. I buy what I want to keep. Hugs to all of you and thanks so much again.

🌷 Thank you so very much Rachel & Linda for kindly sharing your wonderful breadth of knowledge 💕……..I really learnt a lot and found your video very educational and highlighting the differences in standards of doll making, Linda’s doll is stunning 💕……..I love my doll collection and enjoy a variety of types of dolls too, from BJD’s, antiques right down to play-line like Barbie…..You get that feeling of such joy and love and that shouldn’t distract from whether that doll is made of porcelain, resin, wood, plastic or fabric, if you love it and have cherished memories of it…..However, in my friendships with doll artists it makes me so sad & angry when all their years of hard work is simple stolen, copied and sold off as original works…..Anyway, thank you again and Holland-Diane is so beautiful 🌷💕.

Great video! I have been buying dolls since 1985! I recently was very blessed to take a chance on a doll that showed a blurry picture of just the front of her. I had asked the auctioneer for a picture of the back of her head but he never sent one. To make a long story short I went for it and won the doll. I was so nervous and excited I had asked him the next day could he please send me close up of the face and back of the head which he did. Here it was an incised Depose Jumeau 7 with red v.t. artist initials . I have yet to take the cardboard pate off her head because it is glued in some places and I don't want to damage her at all. Don't know what happened to her cork pate and I also want to check inside her head for any damage. I see none on the putside. She is breathtaking. Someone did re-paint her body and it is a jointed wrist body so maybe the year made 1875? I have to find some nice shoes for her. Has Linda ever made french doll shoes? Holland Diane's hair is getting darker and growing! :)

I absolutely loved this video. I had saved it for a time I could really watch it, instead of just listen. I use to tag along as a young teen with my moms friend an antique dealer/collector from the States in Berlin Germany in the 70s. Listening to Linda, whom I admire as an artist, I realize how my moms friend trained my eyes to spot the differences, and details in painting and bisque and also especially the eyes are a give away to a fake, they feel soul-less. Two things on the inside of that head would call alarm bells to me, the way they eyes are set in (to hide the fact the eyes are modern) and the "fake dirt" as I have seen inside many real antiques and artist reproduction and none had that kind of "ageing", it is different. I remember her saying there were a lot of fakes coming from the over the wall (East Block).

Dear Rachel and Linda, thank you! So interesting! As a Käthe Kruse collector I really do not know much about porcelain dolls and always like to see you both talking about these antique dolls, in this case fakes! I learnt a lot and will learn more, everytime I come back. Greets from Germany, Nicola

In Europe we do have the original painting descriptions from the factory's, original molds so you would not be able to tell the difference. Every and all dolls were painted by different people in the factory so different eyebrows are very common, the difference in color is no clue either!

Just a really great teaching experience! Thank you so much, Linda and Rachel. I am loving small inexpensive bisque dolls, (especially those marked Nippon) for my cabinet dolls' house, but when I see one that looks too new and perfect I wonder if it is a fake. But as the real ones can be bought up between $15 to $45, i also wonder if it is worth someone to fake such inexpensive dolls. I am new at collecting so any feedback is appreciated! I love your channel and also the videos you do with Michael and David.

Rachel, Holland Diane is growing up so nicely and she is still just the cutest🧸😃😃💖💖💖💖💖!! It is so heart warming to see how much Stan loves Holland Diane🤗🤗💖💖💖💖💖!! And I really LOVED this video on Fakes vs. the Real thing with Dolls😃😃💖💖💖💖💖!! You can just see the rosy cheeks on the Jumeau as opposed to the anemic look on the fake Jumeau. And I too could have been highly confused because of the "added dirt" inside the head, Jumeau name on the antique body of the fake head, and the wig cap🤔🤔. And Linda's reproduction of a Jumeau is gorgeous😍😍🤩🤩💖💖💖💖💖!! You can just see the HUGE DIFFERENCE between Linda' doll😃😃💖💖💖💖💖 and the factory made doll😐😐👎👎👎. Plus, I could tell the fake leather vs. the real firm and well stuffed leather antique body!! And the Gussets look very antique too!! And Rachel, I really LOVE your Mom's antique Googly because the eyes on your Mom's Googly look like Holland Diane's eyes😃😃💙💙💙💙💙!! However, the fake Googly is not bad looking, but the real one is MUCH CUTER and has MUCH BETTER eye color than the fake Googly💙💙💙💙💙!! Thank you Rachel and Linda for this really fun and educational fake vs. real antique Dolls😃😃💖💖💖💖💖!! And Linda is really talented in making her beautiful reproduction dolls too😃😃👍👍👍👍👍!!!!
