Twin here!! I love the idea of separate cakes and presents. My parents always did separate cakes because they wanted to make sure we were treated as separate individuals. However, I would sing it together because doing it separate always leads to “well Nikki is older so we’ll sing to her first”, and as the youngest it does make you feel a little bad oddly enough😂 so I would sing together!

I was a twin and we had separate cakes and songs! we just alternated who got the cake first instead of doing it by age. now that we're older we alternate who picks dinner and who picks the cake.

As a twin, the fact that you are thinking of their individuality as opposed to coupling them for celebration will really set them up to see themselves as their own person and not as half of one and it will help them grow confidence which is so important and I really wish my parents had done that sooner because as an adult navigating that can be hard

I’m not a twin but a year older then my sister so we got a lot of the same stuff and clothes, and every one thought we where twins and we would say at the exact same time “ no we are not twins” or just answer people at the same time with the same words. We think it’s so funny but get mad at each other because we know that WE ARE NOT TWINS! lol.

You could always start spacing out gifts for them like when you get them stuff from the $1 section, not making them the same things every time in terms of what they are and if the other likes what the one got this time, get them that one next time etc. That way you can start deciphering what each of the boys' interests are like if one got a $1 dinosaur and you notice the other doesn't interact with it then you can kinda assume that's not their thing and if they like it then you know it is. It's usually the smaller stuff that makes a difference.

So happy for you, such amazing news! I have less than 8 weeks of my pregnancy left. Recently found out my baby girl is growing above the 97th percentile. I had my best friends twins almost as much as she did. Separate cakes and gifts individualized for each twin is the best thing you can do for them! We only sang once b/c not many people like to sing once plus it can be awkward for the birthday person also.

Coming from someone with twin best friends. They struggled with identity issues and co-dependency for YEARS. In my family tree we have twins so if I ever get pregnant with twins, I know how to treat them and what not to do. Separate clothes, separate birthdays, and separate friends and encouraging them to be their most authentic selves makes all the difference in the world it seems.

I like the idea of seperate cakes and seperate gifts, singing happy birthday seperately to each of them and as they get older they can join singing to each other aswell. It’s nice to feel special on your birthday and especially for twins I think it’s nice for them to grow up knowing they’re appreciated as individuals and that they don’t have to share everything all the time. At the end of the day they’re still two separate human beings. And as they get older they can make their own decisions about their preferences aswell, it’s good to teach them they can make their own choices and don’t have to copy each other or be the same as each other. You’re such great parents, your kids are lucky to have you :)

I’m a twin and I totally agree with the other comments, it’s so amazing that you’re separating things on their birthday to make them feel like their own individuals ❤️ There’s one thing that I’ve noticed that I’ve only picked up on bc I am a twin myself- when you call them “the boys” instead of using their names it takes away their individual identities! Me and my twin used to be called “the girls” and we hated it so much, we were always referred to therefore treated as a two instead of individually. Would love to know if other twins felt like this!

Wonderful news! Placenta previa is not good. My mom had it with me and it caused problems when the placenta tore. She had to go back to the doctor 2 weeks later for a D&C. But she healed and all was well. Also, I wouldn't worry about labels. I'm sure you can remember what goes where, just like you know which things go in which dresser drawer. Just a thought! 🤗
