The reason I love your videos so much is just how casual you are about sewing. I adore watching people like Bernadette Banner for in-depth, detailed constructions and her vast knowledge of historical fashion, but when I see you just have the time of your life sewing a cute dress from a curtain or bed sheet you bought in a thrift store, that really speaks to my heart. I don't have the money for all of those fancy fabrics, but curtains and bed sheets? That is the language I understand, and it inspires me to make something out of fabric that would have otherwise gathered dust forever. Most importantly, you are unashamed of the little imperfections in your dresses and the often improvised nature of your sewing process, and you are SO RIGHT for that! As a perfectionist, I really need to pound it into my skull that it's so, so much more important to sew ANYTHING, even if the finished product won't necessarily be perfect. Because if I'm so afraid of mistakes, I won't ever start a project in the first place. So, I guess, thanks for being my sewing therapist, Rachel. You're awesome.

This brought back memories. My grandmother use to use this exact dress as a crafting/painting dress. Snaps instead of buttons, and that way she could paint in oils or acrylics and not worry about getting paint on herself. The aprons would not cover all 360 of "oops" when painting. Accidental lean on a wet wall, butt swipe on a corner of a desk, or occasional drip from the hair onto the back of the dress.

@@callmecordelia7181 I did the cut and split method on the front piece to make it more pear shape friendly. It gave it way more room in the hips by splitting it towards the outside. Also by doing it there you didn’t have to mess with the darts. Also I had help pinning the darts on myself and not following the marks on the pattern because I unfortunately have a very large chest and this method was helpful. My first attempt was pretty much a failure, but I tried again with my adjustments and made a mock up and just kept playing and finally got it where I needed it to be. Good luck with yours!!

@@Sayyadina42 I have both and really there isn’t much difference, there is just more ease of the shoulders in the new pattern. Also they made the new directions more lengthy than the old. I’d also be fascinated with a video reviewing your me-made garments, and how well you think you did with them based on how you’ve worn them since. Many of us love your channel because we’re novice sewists, and seeing you do your thing is educational and encouraging!

When you said "...and husbands" while picking his shoes up off the floor...I felt that on a spiritual level. You inspire me to continue sewing. I love your 'I will make this work, even if this one piece has to be upside-down and backwards' attitude. Keep doing what you are doing, honey.

The vest really turned out pretty and looks nice with the white dress. I can see what you mean about the top shifting and needing a different neckline, but the overall color and material has that pumpkin spice vibe going on. Brown is your color, Rachel.

I hope you know that I just binge your content constantly. It really is helping me through a dark time in my life, thank you for being you and making videos. I love all your stuff, whether its making a dream dress, decluttering, trying out a new hair color, antique hauls, I love it all lol. It is just very cheerful and relaxing to watch. You are so appreciated!

I Rachel Maksied a 1920's 1 hour dress for my aunt out of thrift store shower curtains. It took way longer than an hour cause I sewed it Bernadette Banner style... by hand. Fun! She looks great in it and she's ready for great Gatsby Halloween. 🎃🎃 I got the over think it pattern also. Thanks for another great video.

It's very autumnal in my house bc it's harvest season and in turn preserving season....this week I've made 26 pints of salsa, 30 pints of pizza sauce, 12 pints of ketchup , 36 pints of tomato soup , 28 1/2 pints of zucchini relish and 20 1/2 pints of dilly beans ....next week I start on the quarts of spaghetti sauce . Still have time while everything is processing to sew thankfully....I've made a new apron, lol, and two new skirts.

not much to comment on things - as I feel what I want to add has usually been added.. but this is personal for me.. I did take sewing from Jr high to High school... I loved to sew.. but am not good at it.. 7 yrs of schooling and I still suck.. I quit for a long time.. tried to get back into it but life had other plans.. lots of family trauma.. Personal injuries that made it non/feasible for me.. However, watching your vids gives me hope that no matter at what level I am I can do it.. Your positive outlook and allowing yourself to 'mess' up something.. To find alternatives.. To accept the 'mistakes' as 'well, I had fun.' You've inspired me to not walk away from it... I am 60 and I think I can.. and even if I can't.. well I can work with it.. :) Thank You Rachel for your inspiration not only for the younger generation, but for us older ones too.. btw.. I know where your doppelganger is.. You and my eldest granddaughter could be twins - down to the facial expressions, way of speaking .. and she is into the cosplay - seriously... I showed her a vid of you making the ivy dress.. and she saw it too... I think you have a new subscriber.. btwII - love the endings.. I always stay til ya done.. :)

You’re a braver woman than I. Today I had an irresistible urge to wear fall clothes, and I was going to wear my favorite 30s inspired chunky sweater, but I chickened out and wore my most fall-ish patterned long t-shirt instead. But I did still wear the brown pants. That was non-negotiable.
