The person I feel worst for here is Melissa de la Cruz. She's actually a pretty decent YA author, but because her name is attached to this, she's been getting flack, although I do have to wonder how much work she really put into it. The purpose of a ghost writer like de la Cruz (although I don't know if you can count her as a ghost writer, since she IS credited) is to take the person's thoughts and ideas and form them into a readable novel, when one of the problems with this book is the grammar. Maybe she just hated spending time with Lele Pons so much, she was like "FUCK IT, you are ALL going to experience what it was like working with this girl for SIX MONTHS!"

As a native floridian: alligators are cool. They probably won't hurt you if you don't catch them at a bad time. If you just pass them casually and at a respectful distance, they almost definitely won't give you any trouble. Do NOT approach them, do NOT touch them, do //NOT// pick up a baby. That's how you die. I will say the parents having separate rooms isn’t necessarily a bad thing. My parents have separate rooms because of their schedules. Dad is a night shifter, and mom works from home. So, mom having loud conference calls in the daytime, and dad playing loud computer games at night doesn’t work for either of their sleep schedules. In the end, it’s easier if they have separate rooms that include their beds and offices. (Living in a trailer doesn’t afford enough rooms for a separate office and separate bedroom for everyone.)

Do... They... Ever cuddle... Or being affectionate????
@FadeAway16944 жыл бұрын
No, actually, they don’t. My family has never really been the sort for touchy-feely kind of affection. Even hugs are reserved for times of goodbye or sadness. My mom has several medical issues that would very much prevent her from having any sort of intimacy with dad. Over the years, dad’s come to accept it and keeps to himself. And potential “extra energy” that might need to be exerted usually just gets put into obsessing over something else, usually a game or politics/religion. We’re still a happy family, regardless. (And no, that’s not me deluding myself. I’ve seen the chaos and the hatred we’ve endured over the years for lots of other cumulative things. There was time when my dad would tell me WAYYY too much info about how things were and made him feel. And over the years, I’ve watched both my parents realize that change and forgiveness and empathy had to occur. So please don’t project the thought that they must hate each other. They don’t. I’ve mediated this for a long time, and no longer need to.) Side note: we actually don’t have a couch. We have two recliners, and since it’s never all 3 of us out in the living room, that’s really all we need. None of us are cuddlers, and we don’t have company over.

A lot of this is uncomfortably familiar. I used to be the girl who always felt sorry for herself and who wanted everyone to pity her, and it took a lot of work to overcome that and take responsibility for my own emotions and behavior. To see that sort of behavior and mindset in a supposed protagonist is really, really uncomfortable. It's like looking into a magic mirror and catching a glimpse of a past I would rather forget. People like that are not nice. They should not be relatable. They are certainly not protagonist material. They need help. It really is awful to see.

Sometimes you can tell how a person acts through their writing, like here we clearly see Lele's personality almost through herself or her character. Like, maybe she could have created her own character, but instead projected her personality and thoughts and mannerisms through this god awful character. This book seems more like commentary she tried to mask or integrate in a book. Reminds me of onion boy's works too. Sure, books reflect someone's own morals ect., but the whole thing is to create different characters- similar and non similar to yourself. But she obviously is incapable of doing that.

It’s upsetting that to her fans this must read like The Catcher in the Rye.

Gotta say, your commentary on this book makes me appreciate "The Catcher in the Rye" more. At least Holden knew he was having a crisis, and was concerned by it

What’s the conversion rate for goats? I wonder how many goats I would be worth? Are all goats valued equally? Do moral universals exist? Do goats dream of human sheep? Do we truly have free will, or are we merely the products of our experiences and background? All these intelligent questions and more, never to be answered through Lele Pons content!

you can go on howmanygoats.com if you want to find out how many goats you're worth. i'm being completely serious.

i actually bought this book when i was still a teen, and it fucked me up the message is literally : get skinny, get long hair, and you’ll be happy. only like years later did i realise how much of a shit show it was, and it was right when people started making videos on it! anyway, thanks for your sacrifice haha, love listening to you! subbed :)

A man who pronounces my name perfectly? Well damn, my man has been calling me nicknames since we got together. I haven't heard my name from him for over 9 months and it would be incredibly awkward if he'd call me by my first name.

I heard you talking about Lele's similes, and I agree that they lack inspiration and fail to captivate the reader. My favorite simile is from a French novel where the author described the winter trees and their arms as “fat fairies in white nightshirts yawning at the moon." He also describes a flamenco dancer's madness and anger as "hedgehog soup", and the clumsiness of the main protagonists' romance as "a couple of vampires who have forgotten their sunglasses, out on a supermarket trip." Unlike Lele's, the comparisons have inspiration and give the reader a better sense of the story through them. The similes and metaphors hook the reader immediately, and add to the emotions of the story the author is trying to convey. I feel like Lele could learn a thing or two about professional writing from authors around the world.

I love how in the balcony scene she calls other girls who like Alexei "basic bitches", but she's the one who refers to him as "bae" and "sex God". Also: who in their right mind would refuse a plate of Nutella with crackers and strawberries?!

A lot of the passages in Lele's book are actually directly copied from her old vines. The whole 'you're late for school' part is an *actual* vine she made. That explains why scenes are so short and nothing is really explained (because in the vine the weird face would have been the explanation). In her vines Lele often plays an unlikable character, the problem is just that Lele doesn't realize that people don't automatically root for the main character, even though they're unlikable. She probably thinks that people will like her fictional Lele because she's supposed to be funny, because she was funny in the vines she directly copied.

i deal with anxiety as well so my friends know it can get too much for me at social gatherings and parties?? So maybe they will try to include me or help me get home safe if I'm leaving early but like Why should she assume these friends she just met would know how to deal with that and just "know" she's having a hard time??? so annoying

I was gonna do a video on this book but was flat-out unable to finish it before I had to return it to the library. I'm convinced that it's actually a masterful portrayal of an insolent, petulant character because this can't not be written ironically

Lele: "Reptiles are a good look for me." Considering she used to delete her friends photos and videos because she was jealous of her, I think the reptile I'm thinking of is a conniving little SNAKE. Also with this book it feels like half of what she says is pure fantasy because she thought it sounded cool, and the other half is terrible advice she thought of on the spot. Like, either make a useful book of advice, or write your self-insert fanfic. Don't try and frankenstein the 2 together.
