Using popular TV shows to learn English is so effective. With Rachels English in the past 2 years, I improved a lot in speaking and listening, even my coworkers told me that there are no longer strong accents when I talk. Thank you Rachel for your detail of analysis like this , I watched and imitated so many times, it works and I can feel the difference, also that Anderson Cooper and Bill Gates CNN clips..

In my humble opinion, the best way to learn how to understand native is by watching movies, tv-series, or youtube videos with English subtitles. I've been following this method for the last year, and now my listening comprehension is improved a lot. At first, I warn you you won't understand anything, but don't give up... after a few months, you will be able to understand much more. Now I can understand some simple content like Friends (yes is really simple now) or documentaries without subtitles.

Thanks a lot a wonderful explanation. I tried to put down in writing the chunk "...it's that I am..." (from "...it's that I am sick of being a victim..."). After listening it in a lower tempo, I got /ɪʃtssðtəæɪəm/. It seems that the second /s/ in this combination is exactly the short version of "just" (the word that we know must be here). In the normal tempo, yes, it's no more than a gap in the rhythm. For me, the difficult chunk to catch was "...you don't have to face..." because of the flap-t, I believe, which I have not met in British accents.

In my home, the most thing is my books from different stores which I bought. I also have more CD and DVD in English at home. Anyway, keep on going, it is my job. because I like to write ,too. Maybe I will be a great writer, too. Like one of my forefathers -Han Yu. He is the greatest idol in Chinese literature during Tang dynasty and Song dynasty. I can recite some essays from him. Very beautifu, for instance: Stey by step until getting the final target. Ocean consists of different kinds of lakes and rivers. These words are quite famous and popular in China. I have to say, His essay is so beautiful and so amazing. It is a good enjoyment which is better than any other thing.
