What do you think about the transaction fee on every item?

Crazy fees. As always, such a good informative video. Wish that week hadn't been so crazy busy for our family, and I could have supported you auctions.
@omgyg_official2 жыл бұрын
I don't like it as a seller or even as a shopper!! My credit card transaction history is literally a TON of whatnot transactions for all my purchases and I hate that! I wish they'd add everything we purchase to a cart then run it ONE time at the end of the day. You would think they could just pre-auth the cc for the buyer to make sure the transaction will go through and then run all purchases ONCE at the end of each day? They've got to clean that up!
@smittysfamilystore94412 жыл бұрын
@@omgyg_official I completely agree. At minimum they should do only one transaction from an auction. So if you purchase 5 items from one auction then that is one transaction and not 5 transactions. I am really not a fan of whatnot but it is popular right now. I have heard other KZbinrs say in recent videos that viewers are going down already. Personal opinion is that it’s popularity will dwindle and be another mediocre selling platform. But, I am still new to this and it might make it if they make changes that sellers want.

Do you add in the packaging and gas cost to drop off?
@algorhythmofficial2 жыл бұрын
It's def ridiculous. When someone wins an auction that item should be added to a cart to allow them to potentially win more auctions from the same seller. Then at the end of the auctions all the items won would be charged as a single transaction. Would also be great to allow seller to choose shipping options to save both parties money. Shipping items to the same person multiple times is asking too much. The app is cool but they need to sort some things out for sure.

@algorhythmofficial theybdonallow you to bundle the items. The more you purchase it'll eventually give you Free shipping. Depending on how you have Shipping set up. I do not agree with WhatNot and their commission and fees.

Let me get this straight. I see many Whatnot sales goin for 3 bucks. Do you add your own shipping cost or does Whatnot calculate it? I see not one person talk about their packaging cost. 3 buck sell, plus their fees and a buck for packaging.. You keep talking about the 30 cent fee but what about your packaging cost?

First, thank you so much for your video. I appreciate the breakdown and it was a huge eye opener when you compared selling 100 items for $1 or 20 items for $5. I have been waiting to schedule my first live show. I like the idea of running my top or so items and NOT pricing my items @ $1 start. Also, I know exactly the sellers you talk about who run an item for $1 and after it sells for $1 they are degrading the viewers and buyer. I have unfollowed many sellers for reasons such as that. Your analogy you gave of the selling jeans at a garage sale for $5 and a person offering you $5 for the jeans and being unhappy about it was SPOT ON! Thank you for your time and research. Much appreciated.

I love Mercari, Etsy, and the Marketplace but I tried Whatnot last night for the first time. I make jewelry and sell beads and more. It’s just a lot of work to do this with my full time job. I love reselling and selling but it’s a ton of work and there really are a lot of fees. I’m going to look at my dashboard after last night. No…I’m not bored with the numbers. That’s really important. The bottom line is what it is. I’m in sales every single day, in my day job with a Salary/Commission split so…it’s very important to factor in all the costs including, fees, and everything else that goes into selling. Great video.

I just had my first show and ran 3 hours of selling art and making art for people and that was the easy part. Digging around for all the shipping supplies I didn't have an going out and shopping for it was more of a PITA, but I think once I get it more streamlined in packing and shipping, I'll be fine.

Agghhhh shipping can be the least fun!

I get almost all of my shipping supplies at garage sales and reuse boxes that come to the house or that groceries come out of. If you feel a used box doesn't look professional, wrap it in pretty paper and stick a note inside saying you like to recycle what you can. I haven't bought new shipping supplies in years.

Thank you for this!! I just got approved and have an onboarding tomorrow and decided to watch some how to videos. I want to get into intimates/bras/bralettes/slips etc, then activewear, then curated styles such as contemporary or romantic feminine if my audience grew. I was considering to start at $1-$2 bc that's what everyone else did 🤷🏻♀️ but now I may start $4 minimum as I attempt to grow my audience

@@RachelStrickland Have you ever had any problems in scheduling a show, adding inventory for sale and then the show disappearing from your live stream schedule?
@Gamerdudeb Жыл бұрын
Ran my first auction about a week ago. I ran 100 items at $1 start. I made about $125 total after all fees. Some resellers can make the profit if you do it in bulk. Some of my items went for $10 some of them went for $1. Great video though and it shows you have to find different ways and bundles in order to make a little extra money and pay less in fees which I’ll take for my next show!

That's awesome! 100 is a lot for your first auction! Way to go on that! Did it take very long?
@Gamerdudeb Жыл бұрын
@@RachelStrickland thanks! It took about two hours for the show then another hour for the shipping. So not bad about $130 in 3 hours of work.

Hey Rachel. Glad to see a video it had been a little while. I was pretty skeptical about Whatnot from the start. Honestly, I do not have the personality to sell on that platform. ha ha. But those fees are ridiculous, and they should not allow Paypal to do this. I did enjoy buying a while back but will not be selling on Whatnot.
@RachelStrickland2 жыл бұрын
There's still one to be made, just not selling for $1! You could be great on there!
@piercingtheveil404 ай бұрын
How does this compare to eBay fees? Not to mention the time and money for cleaning and repairs not to mention the gas and time to source. I would never consider anything for $5 let alone 1$!!!
@RachelStrickland4 ай бұрын
Ebay is around 13% in most categories. Whatnot is 11% (8 for whatnot and 2.9 for paypal plus 30cents)

I just did my first show on whatnot today and now I’m regretting it. I really don’t think I’m going to continue with it. Not because of this video but because I spent an hour on it and I was exhausted lol.

Great perspective...I think it would be an okay solution for someone who doesn't have BST stores or an option for unloading inventory but honestly for $50-80 for multiple hours (prep, loading into site, and hosting the live sale) just doesn't sound any better than working towards listing. I wasn't considering this as an option but definitely helpful to consider the fees aren't as low as one would think
@RachelStrickland2 жыл бұрын
It's great for unloading inventory fast but I am like you wondering how many items I could list in those same hours. Haha. You do get fast at it though.
