The first thing I cooked in this unit was bone-in skin-on chicken thighs (see picture) kzbin.infoUgkxD4Qeo-HRLxMfom_PDinM_SBfes00qJsB I used the recommended setting after shaking them in a gallon Ziploc with a flower and various rubs and spices mixture, then spraying lightly with canola oil. They turned out nice and crisp, and quite tasty. I am impressed. The recipe book looks like it will give good ideas; I look forward to using this further. It does not stink like burning plastic as some reviews said, and yes, there is a running fan - that's how it works! - but it is not overly obtrusive. I then tried a frozen deep-dish mini pizza. The bottom crust did not get as crispy as I would like; I will experiment with the settings, and maybe apply a bit of cooking oil to the underside crust. It got to where the top was starting to burn, so I had to stop the cooking, but was still edible.

This is a genuine question, but why? Do they work better than a conventional fan oven? So far the only pro I can see to them is that they use less electricity, but given that my oven is already a small counter top one, I'm not seeing that I'd gain much there. And my kitchen is small, so I don't want to give more counter space/ storage space to something that won't bring me much.

With the ice cream, use a scoop, put in a toothpick or popsicle stick to make it easier for rolling, cover with plastic wrap or put in a tightly sealed container - when you the 3 station breading, do the flour (and I would recommend adding cayenne pepper to the flour since the dish is originally from Mexico) then egg, then back in flour, then egg and cornflakes or panko. I wouldn't recommend freezing them again as the outside will become soggy, just pop them in the pre heated air fryer.
