Impressive… yes!! Everything is stellar, from the geology and the geography to the freestyle one-wheel dismount in the intro 😂. Love the videography and the clear aquamarine colour of the water… it felt as if I was swimming right along with you gals. What an epic adventure, and camping the night before too… such fun!! One thing I learned from this video is in relation to your buddy, Sarah’s, skull cap. I, too, have long hair and I am now inspired to look online for a skull cap (like Sarah’s) that encapsulates the whole mess (my mess, that is, not Sarah’s). PS - We have lots of great swim options here in the PNW (🇨🇦)… when my province is not on fire 🔥 or parched under the 50 degree scorching sun 🥵 or battling a pandemic (gee, this sounds like such a great place) you’ll have to come for a visit and take in some awesome swim adventures in the rivers, lakes, and oceans. PPS - stay vertical… being upright is where it’s at (when one is not in the water). Thanks for the adventure, this was sooo worth the wait.

Hi Mary, I'm glad you enjoyed joining us. What flavour icecream wuld you have had? The hat Sarah is wearing was one that was sold for charity by a woman in Auz doing a swimming fundraiser and I loved the design. I think Swim Secure make swim hats for people with lots of hair/larger heads, you might find one that suits you there: swimsecure.co.uk/collections/accessories/products/swim-secure-larger-silicone-swim-hat I will definetly come for a visit to check out your awesome rivers, lakes and the ocean once we are able to get on a plane without wondering if we'll be alowed on one to come back again! 🏊😃

In and around Durdle Door and Lulwoth there's lots of swimmy opportunities and you don't have to be a really strong swimmer for many of them. There are plenty of campsites and accommodation locally, so it should be pretty easy to set up. Enjoy!

Well done for another great video. I have a request for a future video. Can you give us some advice on taking swimming duration and distance 'up to the next level'? For example, I am finding it difficult to swim for longer than one hour (just under 3km). I want to increase this, but I start to get cramps, and my energy level drops. You mentioned previously that you are training for a 10km swim... How do you do this? Do you eat/drink along the way? How did you increase your swimming times? Many thanks!
@marycharlebois66273 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom… Excellent request for a video topic. I, too, would love to learn more about increasing one’s swimming duration and distance as I, too, seem to hit a wall at about an hour. I am soon to be 58 and I sometimes have a problem with leg and/or foot cramps. This is not a huge problem when it happens on land, but it is very scary when it happens in the water. I find it happens more frequently when the water is cold, and since I am from the PNW (🇨🇦), cold water is definitely a thing. I did some research and also talked to the owner of my local health food store who is also in her mid-fifties. The info that I studied has encouraged me to start taking Magnesium supplements which is recommended for muscle/nerve function (specifically cramping). It has helped reduce cramps immensely… I haven’t had any cramps since I started using it. I increased the amount of Magnesium in my diet by taking in natural food sources of Magnesium (I am a plant-based eater) but I also take 300mg/day as a powder in my drinking water. It’s blueberry flavoured and is quite tasty so I have no problems taking it. I don’t know if this is helpful info to you, but it has TOTALLY changed my swimming experience since I no longer swim in fear of painful cramps happening when I am in the water. Have a great day 😎

Hi Rach, I hope you don't mind me saying but you look like you've lost alot of weight recently. Have you found that you get colder without the 'bioprene' as you called it once 😆 I'm only asking because i'm a similar weight and size as you used to be and always wonder if my fat keeps me warmer for longer but I also feel it takes me ages to warm up if I get too cold. Did you lose the weight intentionally and if so how have you done it? I'm sixty now and find it so difficult to lose any weight at all. By the way I love your channel and the info is amazing for any outdoor swimmer. Thank you for giving such valuable advice and keeping us all safe in the water.
@EverydayAthleteRach3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Julie, yes I’ve lost almost 3 stone since January. I’ve been using the NHS weight-loss app on my phone. It was really easy to do. In losing the weight I’ve lost a lot of my tolerance to the cold so haven’t been able to do my long training swims without a wetsuit yet. I’m hopeful I can rebuild the tolerance to the cooler temperature because I can’t be bothered to deal with my wetsuit - washing and drying etc, although it does feel warm on me!

@pjchosen3 жыл бұрын
How did you manage to go there on such a lovely day and find the place virtually deserted?! I have to say though that apart from the cold, you make no mention of how potentially dangerous this was. There was no swell out there (quite rare) and perhaps you should have warned people about this, as the open sea is vastly different from the calm bay, and you wouldn't want amateurs trying this.
@EverydayAthleteRach3 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter, we picked the day with low northerly winds and had researched the time to do it, going with the tide from DD to LC. Had it been anything other than flat calm we would have just dipped. It wasn’t an instructional video, just a swim along. There is a company called Jurassic Swims which organises swims along this part of the coast which people could do if they wanted too.
@pjchosen3 жыл бұрын
@@EverydayAthleteRach thanks for your reply. I just thought I'd mention safety there because it was lacking in your video and many people have watched it and commented that they would like to do the swim. But even swimming out to the deep cold water by the door, and especially feeling the swell the other side, can be dangerous.
