Man, that's really good! Great camera work and sound too. It's so good this might be my go to performance of this piece. After Rach 2 this is the most beautiful piece along with his 18th variation for my taste. Profound beauty. Masterfully played. I must watch your other videos. I've had trouble with this piece with fingerings and hands under/over etc. I know I must play it. Thanks.

As with most Rachmaninoff, this piece is technically more difficult than it sounds - there are some grueling stretches and chords, but I always loved this piece because it always seemed like a clearing in the storm where the clouds parted and this beautiful calmness came down out of no where. Well played!!!

Thank you for your great analysis then this wonderful gift! The more I listen and watch the more I am developing my rather newbie musical ear for my fave composer- for the reasons you in part, uncover for me.
Henrik, I'm blown away by the new visual style! Simply beautiful. And that one angle where part of the key action is showing 😲 It looks so nice. Did you put a light inside the piano?
@HKilhamn Жыл бұрын
Thanks Serdar! :) Yes, It's a LED light strip inside the piano, placed high up some way in, in order to not get reflections from angle above!

I love it, it's so pleasing to the eyes. It really shows that you spent a lot of time perfecting the colors and lighting. Thank you for all your efforts!

How do you light up your keys like that?
@HKilhamn Жыл бұрын
It's a LED light strip inside the piano, I've removed the lid and placed it quite some way in, in order to not get reflections from above!

I can not for the life of me reach the full chord at 1:07. Do you both play the lower C# and D, or just one of them?

Great rendition of one of my favorites. Very clear and thoughtful. Why didn’t you upload this in your Sonata Secrets channel? It’s you, right? Btw, i subbed here, as well.

Those are the most unusual fingering I ever saw ;) 5th finger of the first FA diez of the theme, thats something I would not use ever, it has so little cantabile potential.

Great video! What fingering do you use on the insane C#-D-A-C# chord in the first section? I try to hold the first two notes with my thumb and then use fingers 4 and 5 for the last two notes.
@cychloryn Жыл бұрын
I find it surprisingly comfortable to play the C# with my thumb knuckle and the D with the tip of my thumb. My hands are too small to play it with 1-2
@SuperKripke Жыл бұрын
@@cychloryn Yeah I saw that Henrik uses fingers 1 and 2 for the C# and D while the fourth finger hits the A right at the edge of the key! I found a solution that works for me. I have hitchhikers thumb so I use the inside thumb knuckle for the D and the thumb tip for C#. It works so far but I have to practice to make the top C# sing. Thanks for your comment!

Beautifully played! I’m working on this at the moment and find myself brainwashed by this magnificent Rachmaninoff, morning and night! Finding the hands side somewhat difficult! Should I persevere?

There's a Siloti version on IMSLP which doesn't have a lot of hand changing.
