In Singapore, the races are all POC, with Chinese being the majority. In a way similar to what you said when a minority race(s) is successful, it's a victory for them. But then again, I don't think we see it has a competition to win but more towards "fairness". e.g. getting a job because you meet the relevant skills not because you can speak mandarin. One can aurge that speaking mandarin is a relevant skill. And there lies the advantage the Chinese has over the minority, right from the beginning.
@laughter953 жыл бұрын
But when there are too many Asians doing well in elite high schools and colleges, the Asians get lumped in with whites and it's no longer a victory for POC. Often when they say POC, they don't include Asians. They only mean Hispanics and blacks.

Alisha et al, I think the majority should ask this question. If parents adopt stepchildren on top of having own children, they have 2 approach choices on their stepchildren. One is give some, hold back some and at times act one way in public and act differently in private. The other is unconditional love, giving and consistent in actions and fair treatment between own and stepchildren. Let's be really transparent, the reality is the former rather than the latter actions. Try staying in a non Malay community and witness for yourself the positive and negative effects of the govt policy. What you see may imply success among non Malays but in reality there are a also lot of non Malays who barely get by and are struggling in their business and personal life. This is not made known publicly and because race minority numbers are small, it may not get the due highlight needed. I understand from a Malay perspective given my upbringing but not many Malays will understand and fathom a non Malay perspective. As long as race is still being harped on through direct or indirect political policies, the thread that holds the unity of the citizens will always be stressed and at times break. Singapore's model is not ideal too and I know of racial biases happening by and large within it's own communities just like Msia. Msia can do better than Sgp in every aspect but race based politics will hold back the nation from moving forward at a faster pace.

For all the complains. Do u realise for a small nation tt is literally is steam rolling its way from 3rd to 1st world in less than 40 plus years , the progress of different communities living together is remarkable. We have etched our own identities and have adjusted to living somewhat harmoniously. Sure there is racism and some old age ideaologies among older gen but even they have been adapting. The younger gen play a crucial role in advocating for harmony and fairness. Diff race marriages which were a uncommon thing just 50 plus years ago is quite normalised to an extent. Sure there is more room for improvement but recognise the progress in such a small span of time tt even developed nations for a long period are struggling with. There are those who have benefitted from the system and later run away complaining about how bad it is. To u I say if u need to look at urself and ur character. Such a parasitic nature u harbour. Migration is fine and a personal choice but speaking bad about something that u have developed urself feom and now still benefit just by association, well in short its disgusting. We will continue to work and develop our nation. Its easy to complain and focus on the negative. But every generation has its part to play. I have seen how the system takes care of rhose who are less able. Through subsidies, medical and financial aid. The system is good and will continue to improve only with our efforts. Hardware and heartware both hand in hand. Just to highlight I am a minority and have beniffited from the system and have been actively contributing back to society for the past 2 and half decades.

Sometimes not about race. Should also question the MP if he feels that 16k allowance just for the MP allowance portion is already overpriced. The ministerial salary is also skyrocketed etc. He's born from humble background, but right now on the skyrocketed salary path, should try to equilabarise a bit. There are quite many SG politicians now every month earning 100k SGD on wards, but at the same time able to tell their history of 10+ people sharing rental flats etc. Clearly there is inequality in SG, where our country's founding principle is justice, liberty and equality, but now there is inequality. Meritocracy is fine, but not to the current extend of high inequality

Here is a reality check. Have you been to the Family Court lately? Have you been to a Syariah Court lately? 20 or 30 years ago, ask your neighbour grand uncles, grand aunties...malay family problems are rare, even if there were, quickly resolved amicably with the help of extended families and relatives...Suicides is almost unheard of in Malay Community and history for hundreds, if not thousands of years...but now govt can haphazardly (but falsely) accuse or allege that a malay can have suicidal thoughts or break up families, take away homes at their whims and convenience? And worse was of an example, a primary school girl (aged 9!) alleged so but which she herself denies, but unfortunately was TAKEN AWAY (basically kidnapped) against her will by govt employees just to break up a home and family without any due diligence to facts and WORSE without any respect to the sanctity and sovereignty of family and home, of culture, of older parents, of GENEVA CONVENTIONS and basic human rights...? That's right, young people nowadays take for granted civil liberties, rights to raise a family, respect for differences, such that they think they are "integrating" and loyal by becoming servile and obsequious, looking through rose-tinted glasses at their "supposed" comfortable life, WHILE being uncouth and ruthless towards the disadvantaged, the minorities, the underdogs, as they go about with blinders on following without questioning, shockingly govt employees willing to commit perjury just for the sake of breaking up a home with the child PROTESTING against them...are you aware of how many children run away from SHELTERS and forced step -families? of unnecessary violence as a result of govt decisions and lapses that force individuals to cave in to their emotions? and singaporeans choose apathy and amnesia to ignore this...? no wonder society is deteriorating as more n more women becoming selfish and spoiled...as more and more men become either docile or penting up rage as you can see in the streets...more and more locals loving pets rather than children...more and more working as "public servants" defending your bonuses rather than your husbands and fathers...more and more value your properties and houses rather than homes.....your ancestors fought hard against invaders, against communists against tyranny, it is not that these young ones are not taught proper history, the problem is not that singaporeans are uneducated...they are educated just enough to believe what they've been taught (but not character development) and not educated enough to question what they've been taught....because of this a girl is left without a natural father she loves, without a proper home she loves and without a family she loves...singaporeans who grow up talking about senseless frivolities sitting on high horses need a humbling close look at their treatment of what or who they think of as "lesser" singaporeans...if you really want to talk about cohesion...being majority does not have to mean your culture is the standard yardstick....other countries have even more diversity but their unity is even more impressive because they respect and dont encroach on one another...sad to say unlike singapore...which still thinks it is better, better at what? gloating? there are original native malays with more than seven generations of ancestors yet if you ask them they can recount the uncountable number of times in conversations non-Malays bring up as if the original settlers here are interested in malaysia or indonesia as if chinese or indian own this country as if the natives dont belong here, as if we are interested in politics of other nations...so how far have singapore advanced as a multiracial/multicultural nation when you still look down on malay men specifically and avoid the elephant in the room? Be a better Singaporean by building a better Singapore for FUTURE generations of your own citizens, rather than appease govt and gloat to foreigners

Malayunesia is another name next to Indunesia that was proposed by George Samuel Windsor Earl to identify the archipelago.[27] It was a Greek translation of the Malay Archipelago also connected to the concept of Malay race, the inhabitant of the archipelago. It was said that Windsor Earl prefer the name Malayunesia (Malay Archipelago) instead of Indunesia (Indian Archipelago), because Malayunesia is an appropriate name for the Malay archipelago, while Indunesia can also refer to Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and Maldives.
