The problem with Boostane is it turns the plugs orange and I would assume the inside on the motor also.

only concern I can see by using this particular vehicle is your getting all your power changes purely based of ignition timing, now while we can see gains from different fuels, due to this applications generally there going to be fairly small, I think what might have been useful would to have been to use a turbocharged application as that would allow more boost to be easily run which might have seen larger gains. While this does give us a pyramid of which gives the highest overall octane, the differences will be masked slightly by only seeing power change from igntion timing and as such, it might scew value for money on each fuel

Hi Turbo... I can tell you that we had the same concerns, but after finishing all the testing we did see large gains (from 574 on 93 pump to a max over 620 with the best fuels, which you will see in the coming episodes) just from the timing changes we were able to make. However, for round 2 (about 3 months out) of fuels testing we have switched to a turbocharged, direct injected combo to give us more flexibility. Thanks for the feedback!

Bob Morreale I think a small displacement engine would be a good choice, something like the Ford 2.3 ecoboost in the Ford focus RS. Or if you did use a non DI injection something like a 9.5:1 forged 4G63 evo engine as that level of compression should give larger changes based on octane level. In the UK race fuel is so expensive that we generally run alot lower compression engines to make as much power as possible on pump fuel (93mon) even pump we pay $7 a gallon. We also dont have E85 at all over here. Quite a few of us make our own race fuel by mixing 30/70 mix of methanol/pump as methanol costs the same price as pump fuel. Maybe something to look at if you have the extra injector capacity. love your channel by the way, always tune into the tech Tuesdays without fail!!

Ok . So y would you prefer VP 103 when running 20 + pounds of boost ? I'm wondering because I run the Mustang Eco Boost at high Boost levels.

So Boostane+93 is more cost effective and makes right about the same power with less timing than MS103, I'm seeing 618whp with 20° timing with Boostane on your spreadsheet, why wasn't that mentioned here?

Did you watch the whole video??? It was mentioned.

TheTuningSchool Might of missed it, sorry. Nice video, I really like this series you guys are doing, I'm definitely learning alot.

Bluestream, it was explained in the 93 plus boostane video (the video previous to this one). Check it out, and see. The 618 rwhp tune on 93 plus boostane with 20 degrees was not safe so we didn't count it. Boostane was great but we could only safely run 18.

Bob Morreale I appreciate the explanation, Cheers!

Hey Guys, just watched your series on race fuels and thought it was very informative. I do, however, have some questions that I hoped you could help with. I have a 2019 EcoBoost Mustang and recently installed the Ford Performance Tune. They recommend 93 Octane for this Tune, but being that it is a canned Tune I can not modify it for different fuels. I also live in California, so pump gas is 91 is the standard. This made me worry that if my Tune needs 91 minimum, but reccomends 93 then I might be under the recommendation if I get bad gas. I do not want to cause any issues with my car as it is my daily driver, but I also want to take it to the track for drag racing as well as track racing HPDE. I would like to know which fuel set up you would recommend. I do not want to switch my fuel system to flex fuel or E-85, so I have been mixing in some race gas 101 octane in with my 91 pump gas to get an octane rating closer to the 93 that is recommended by Ford Performance. I live in the high desert, so in the summer it gets very hot here. Temperatures reach over 100 sometimes. With that said, what percentage should I mix of 101/91 octane to reach the most power at the least amount of concern? So far I have been using about 50/50? What are you suggestions? Thanks.

E85 is corrosive. It's also 20% less efficient per gallon. Has an "effective octane" around 108. It does burn cooler. If you have turbo why not just add alcohol/water injection for momentary power?

Well I can kinda say the opposite I went to the track in my 2010 Taurus sho with a twin turbo 3.5 v6 I had it with a 93 tune and ran a fastest pass of 9.44 in the 1/8th and once I added 3 gallons of 114 octane to 4 gallons of 93 and it ran a fastest past of 9.14 in the 1/8th

$16 a gallon for ms103 lol what a joke! You can get c16 for $16 a gallon why would anyone pay that
@freedom691974111 ай бұрын
C16 is leaded so running it in a modern vehicle with o2 sensors is not an option.
