I followed all four tutorials and I may now have a clearer idea on how to prepare my cars to run on the dirt and potholes of the tracks I use (I'm almost exclusively a rally driver, the few track games I use are almost totally arcade and run on a smartphone, I'll omit the names of the games, you can guess on your own), but a thing you didn't talk about was how to prepare those variables above based on the wheel base of he car as well. I'm sure almost EVERYONE who has tried the mini on DiRT 2.0 will have boggled on how such a FWD, left at the standard set-up, behaves at times almost like a Porche, with close to no stability and that sometimes oversteers ON ACCELERATION (and though I reckon a driving wheel would help the control, I have no space at all to position it. It would help me NOTHING having to put it on my knees trying to balance it and the pedal board while driving, though I believe it'd be funny as hell to watch me trying. I have to make due with a joypad). Tried already some changes on the config of the cars, but these freshly new notions will surely help me more. Thanks a lot. 👍

I think in the first way, the main goal is trying to avoid spinning wheels while cornering, and the second way is like "drifting" forcing the car to observe the reactions.
@lucatarolli79505 жыл бұрын

Your tutorial is good but only for early beginners. I mean you show how to have a car that handles better but you miss a very important point : i call it "optimization". "Optimization" is about getting car that handles better while going as fast/faster than before. By applying the good fixes linked with each issues of the car. One exemple in the video is when you increase rear downforce of the nissan in PC2, you had understeer when decelerating and oversteer when accelerating. But NO particular lack of rear grip in high speed turns. In your case, you add "parasite" understeer with the rear wing, so it resolves the oversteer problem but since you didint applied the correct setup correction which was bounded with the issue, the car will end therically slower ; that's not optimized. The right things to change here were the dampers/suspensions and maybe the differencial. So in your case you enhance the handling but reduce the speed of the car. If you had changed the right thing in the setup, it would have been optimized and the car would have had the same enhanced handling while being even faster than before. So, i'm not very satisfied with the video and i know you're a good pilot, but to be honest i don't find the video legitimate. My goal is not to be rude, i'm just expressing my opinion. Sorry if i hurt your eyes with my bad english :P
@viperconcept5 жыл бұрын
Don't worry no one will accuse you XD However, we have to distinguish 2 different things (as I showed in the video): 1) setting up the car to make it easier to drive. 2) setting up the car to make it faster. sometimes, if the #1 is your 1st goal, conseguently your car will be faster too. But in other cases, making the car easier to drive "sacrifices" a bit the speed. If you're a beginner or an amateur who have a high mistake ratio per lap, you don't mind about the full speed: your goal is to have an easy car to drive to reduce your mistake ratio. Then, of course, if you're a pro, and your mistake per lap ratio is low, your main goal is the #2: making the car faster. About PC2, I had no differences in terms of speed and stability by adjusting the L.S.D. or the dampers. That's why I haven't showed them in the video. But let's face the truth, Trimix3d: if you're a pro already, why would you watch this video? If you're a pro, you shouldn't need a lesson about setup, right? :-) Of course this video is for beginners and amateurs! But, because of the sim-racing world is made mostly by beginners/amateurs than pro sim-racers, I wanted to address to the larger part. I'm sorry if you have been half-disappointed dude! :-)
@Trimix3D5 жыл бұрын
viperconcept Okay so we have the same point of view, I just wanna insist on a point : making the car easier to drive is not synonym of making it slower, on certain points it's true but in most of the cases it should make the car faster : 1) because the car has a better balance (no oversteer no understeer=optimal grip) 2) because you're more confident So that's why i'm still persuaded there was something to do with the dampers of this nissan ;) Honestly, I know how to setup a car without problems 😬 but... it always takes me too much time! (maybe because i'm a perfectionist?). Anyway : i didn't came here to have advices on how to setup in itself but to see if you had some techniques to gain time ;)
@bradleycruse19965 жыл бұрын
Trimix3D Have you considered that the standard Nissan setup may have come with less rear downforce than optimal? With damper’s being a progressive spring in theory. increasing bump, rebound or speed would have lead to a minimal change whilst hindering low speed control. The implications of having a high downforce car are that the springs are often pushrod style so that they are stiffer, the dampers would barely be in use at high speed, the springs would be near the max compression and incredibly stiff. The differential could have been edited. But ultimately, nearly every setup change would have a negative consequence, having the car more balanced lose predictability. You no longer depend on understeer, it’ll instead do either. Equally tyre wear is a suffering counterpart from variable dampers and springs. So, in conclusion, I think this tutorial was good enough - as he said, if you’re a pro, make your own video, I think he was right in saying that most sim racers are amateurs, it’s the nature of the games being hard to master
@bradleycruse19965 жыл бұрын
Also a side note on the differential. Being a geared differential there would have to be significant wheel speed difference for it to affect handling characteristics at such speeds
@Trimix3D5 жыл бұрын
Bradley Cruse I don't know how the setup of this car works since i never drove it and i don't play pc2. But when i have the kind of problems that happened in the video modifying the dampers is actually the right thing to do. I read your clarification about the dampers but there is though obviously an effect at high speed, at least that's what i see in AC. Of course i considered the fact that there wasn't enough rear downforce in the default setup but i rejected this theory because the nissan had understeer at high speed while decelerating : that's also why i think the issue has more to do with dampers/suspension. I want to clarify : in my comment i didn't wanted to expose my setup knowledge to discredit viper for fun. I wanted to prove that it was the wrong way to setup the car. Of course, if the car lacked globally of rear grip at high speed, viper should have increased the rear wing. But that's not the issue he said in the video.

I have to disagree with your methodology here Viper, I thinks this misses a very important aspect of setup: Learning the track. I think with what you've shown may players will get the car to a comfortable level, but when it comes to improving your lap time you'll have to learn the track and then restart the whole BOOST setup again.
@viperconcept5 жыл бұрын
I think your point was implied/understood already by the players. I mean, logically when you setup a car, you setup it to match the track. But let's say the player didn't setup the car according to the track but only to be comfortable with the car: after learning the track, he shouldn't restart the whole B.O.O.S.T., but just the "S.T.", because you know already the "B.", you know already the "O.", and you know already the second "O." ^_^ Never said setting up a car was a fast process: with or without BOOST, setting up a car requires time and patience.
