The irony is that most harley riders ignore me. I wave at all bikes, even police on bikes. I've owned a few different bikes now and the harley riders almost never wave back. I actually like quite a few harleys, but the riders... not so much.

I’ve been riding on the street for almost 45 years had a Suzuki & Kawasaki at first but it’s been Harley for the last 38 years. I wave to all 2 wheelers regardless of make or style 3 wheels EH. In my experience it’s the sport riders that don’t wave unless I wave first. But it’s all good 👍

I present you with, The Amazonas 1600. A Brazilian motorcycle built around a Vw bug flat 4 carbureted engine. Ugly, slow, mechanically flawed, it is the overweight yugo of motorcycles because Brasil was communist back when it was being built for the sake of this argument.

Great video, I’ve just been through this, after always having sports bikes I switched to Road Glide. Had never ridden anything like it, not even a cruiser. I’d still love a sports bike in garage but the Harley as my one bike has been perfect, 2 up is dream, it’s got character. It’s still riding just different, the same sensations. I had never appreciated them before but now I get it.

After 35 years of HD I recently purchased a Ducati Multistrada. Kept my Dyna, love all my HDs and other bikes of past. But the little 950 Multistrada is much more usable, versatile and exciting. It can do it all and deliver the comfort. Anyway HD needs all the help it can get today. Thank you John, I enjoy your work.

So enjoyable a watch. You now understand, it creeps up on you, two years ago they were tractors that escaped a field, now I just love my 2018 FLHTK (Electra Glide Limited). I have the 107 twin cooled and it is always two up, it pulls well, gets 40mpg no matter how you ride it and it does embarrass some 600 riders when you keep up with them. They do eventually fuck off, but its fun watching them check their mirrors and thinking, that fat bassa is still with me....aye, I am! Thank you for the viewing. Gee.

So with you Steve. Not a cruiser fan, nor a HD fan, but was offered a stupidly good deal on a Street Glide. Rode it from Cape Town to Johannesburg in South African winter, and I fell in love. I think it was cruising down a divided highway in winds gusting to 70 kms or so. The SG was in cruise at 130 kms and I was riding with one hand, dead straight and perfectly comfortable while watching compact cars getting pushed all over the road. The beast just works, and works with character.

I'm glad someone is showing how well Harley's bikes handle for a heavy machine. I was one of those who swore up and down that their tech was out dated, their handling was poor, and that I'd never own one. That all changed after I rode one. It may be too late for HD, but if they want to entice both new and older riders to their brand, then this is the type of setting they need to be more associated with imho. Let them be seen going head to head with the other manufacturer's touring/bagger machines on a professional track so we can finally put that old, stale argument to rest. It may be their only option at this point.

Andrew Blahut I am living proof of that. Never thought I’d own a Harley. After turning 50, I’m on my third Harley now at 56 and finally found the one the fits me the best and it’s a RGS. My younger years, many sport bikes, ninjas, gpzs, gsxrs, cbrs, R1. what bike have I put the most miles on within the shortest time period? Road Guide Special, love the bike, love the looks, with a couple modifications, bike is a dream to ride. Still have an R1 for Sunday mountain rides, but my default bike is the 2018 RGS.

As an American, I approve of this video! I too love older American cars, especially from GM. I also was anti-Harley for the longest time and now, in my early 40's myself, I have taken a liking to the old, heavy, two-wheeled American iron. Hopefully Harley can survive this massive slump they are right in the thick of. Anyway, great video. It looked like a ton of fun and I'm sure you made tons of people laugh and smile at the fact that you're racing a land yacht. I know I enjoyed it immensely!

Very well said! I have been riding since I was a kid and I turn 54 tomorrow. Ive raced mx and done many of track days on sport bikes. 2 years ago I bought a HD FXDR and did a 131 kit in it. It absolutely rips. I noticed the one in your race. I live in Austin, Tx and ride every weekend weather permitting. I went to the IOM TT this year for the first time, which was an amazing experience . We all get older but what ever we ride thats all that matters, as long as we still ride!

Wow - it's so rare for someone to acknowledge the different strengths of the various bikes available, and that anyone can have fun on a cruiser or sport bike or dirt bike etc. I really enjoyed your video John racing around the track on the road glide grinding the floor boards down. I too started Japanese but love my road glide as much as any bike I have ridden before. Most of the HD haters have never owned an HD but fiercely speak against them as if they are in some kind of wolf pack staying with their herd. Hopefully this will open some eyes. I've been riding over 4 decades and I bought my first HD (Road King) last September. Put nearly 15k miles on it over the winter no less and I love the beast. HD is making some great bikes now and the world's gone to hell. Glad to see someone who rides give it a review based on reality rather than drone on about its underwhelming spec sheet. Riders could use the education and HD could use the advertising.

Great video John. I am also at that stage where I am looking at other styles/types of bikes that I have never ridden. Fast is fun, but comfort is something that appeals to me a lot more now than when I was younger. Australia is a large chunk of dirt, so a machine that offers me the best levels of comfort is most definitely going to end up in my garage. Not interested in looking cool, or being part of the crowd, I just love riding a motorcycle that keeps a smile on my dial every time I ride it. Glad you enjoy the Road Glide mate. I do reckon that your T-shirt collection will get bigger over time. Stay healthy brother.

I love sportbikes they are truly incredible when riding them at the limit. However riding a big Harley touring bike is a sheer joy all the time. I own the CVO Ultra Glide and it is awesome with one or two riders. I admit I prefer my Road King when hitting the tight curves because my heavy CVO will slide out wider than I want (grinding the foot boards!) if I get too enthusiastic going into a corner. For long hauls over a wide variety of road types the Ultra rocks! I agree with the overall assessment. And the sound when on the throttle is much throatier than any track bike could ever be. 👍🏼👍🏼

Wow! Great video. Looked like you were having a blast. Harley’s handle pretty good for what they are and they actually can turn a tighter radius than MOST sport bikes. I can usually keep up and even pass some sport bikes in the twisties on my Street Glide. Those scraped up floor boards are “BADGES OF HONOR”. Hope some of the Harley Haters watch this. Most of them have never even thrown a leg over one of Harley’s Touring model motorcycles, but they HATE, HATE, HATE. All I can really say about this vid though is, “THANK YOU FOR YOUR HONESTY”. How cool is this? I am a Big-V man that loves racing, so this is right up my alley. Nice work, man! I have always liked the Road Glide. I actually prefer it to the Street Glide because I like the fixed fairing. CVOs are pretty amazing machines, to be honest. But that price tag! I'll never be able to own one. Extra cool that you got to experience the Glide in its best trim. And then to race the thing? Excellent! I ride a Victory Vision myself, another big-v monster with a fixed fairing. I Love this bike and wouldn't trade it for anything. And I would LOVE to get her out on a track some day! Anyway, thanks for this great piece.

Anyone that doesnt like them, especially a CVO, just is biased and not willing to give them a chance. I started out on a 76 Kawasaki KZ900. Then a 82 Honda V45 Magna. A 88 1100 Yamaha LTD. Then I rode a custom 78 SuperGlide. I then embarked on building a 1950 EL Panhead. Rode it for 5 years. Put it up. Then I went to a 2008 Night Train. A 2004 Big Dog Husky. Now Im pretty happy on a home built 98 Electra Glide with an S&S engine and a 6 speed. Suspension upgrades. It has been on the Dragon. Had plans to ride the snake this year before the pandemic happened.

As an American 65 years old lifetime rider my preference is and always will the Japanese classic standard (Suzuki GS or Kawasaki Z or Yamaha Midnight Special, you get the idea) or the raw performance of a sport bike. I borrowed my brothers Harley Heritage Classic and it just did not float my boat at all. I can’t put my finger on it completely; but the weight and lack of agility killed it for me. And then there’s the overall price and ungodly price for maintenance on a Harley. I will say most my riding is urban fun and not coast to coast touring. However I’ve done a 1300 mile trip on a Kawasaki Z with ease and comfort.

I’ve got a 2016 CVO Breakout which is a straight line beast, and a 2018 CVO Streetglide which I find to be so beautifully balanced it’s a pleasure to ride for hours on end! (The breakout, not so much) it’s just a matter of taste, and I know there’s a lot of diehard Roadglide fans, but I just think that the Roadglide is just so ugly compared to the Streetglide! The problem with HD is that for many years they deliberately marketed their bikes to insecure macho knobs, they pushed for an import tariff on foreign bikes which was set at 45% - showing that they prefered suppressing the competion rather than improving their products, and their post-war driven success comes largely down to their use in the service and not so much their superiority over other makes (hence the tax). I fully support the freedom for anyone to choose the product they like the best, but I do think it's worth saying that for many people it's the company philosophy and self-imposed brand image that drives them away from Harleys. The only reason for the recent changes is desperation. I like all types of motorcycle, and I always feel that the reasons for people like myself avoiding HD get oversimplified to "different people have different tastes" when really, I love Victory and Indian and Boss Hoss and the Rocket III, just don't feel right right about supporting HD. Bikers in general still sometimes have to struggle with the tainted reputation by that "bad boy" branding and the kind of riders Harley pulled into our community, and I think that's a valid reason not to like them.

A lot of words to get nearly every fact wrong. The import tariff was in response to Japanese companies dumping their product below fair market cost. Dumping isn't about suppressing competition, it is about eliminating it. Also, while HD may have asked for government assistance the US Treasury had already determined years earlier that the Japanese were dumping motorcycles among other products at below fair market value. Around the same time of the tariff HD had a change in ownership and introduced the Evolution motor which addressed a number of issues of the previous Shovelhead so your comment about "suppressing competition rather than improving their products" doesn't hold any water either. I'm not a fan of most marketing, HD included, but their actual customer base is fairly diverse by race, gender and income. Had you gotten out of the house more instead of basing your opinions on some dumb television show you may have figured this one out on your own. Do the math. How many loser dirtbags are dropping 45K on loaded out baggers? Harley has plenty of issues.Try sticking to the ones that are factual.

Love your video!! I wouldn't begin to give you tips, but a little leaning off center, into your turn may give you a bit more ground clearance and save your floorboards. That is a sweet ride my friend.

I've been mostly riding HD over the years. I have the jacket and the patches though I always wave at other riders. Especially sports bikes. It's not for me, but riding on 2 wheels is what it's all about...respect all around! #newoldschool

Here in the South I find that Harley riders can also appreciate a street bike and vice versa.... We are all just riders! Especially in the South where we can ride all year

Great video as usual John, I rode one for a few days in Croatia a couple of years ago. I thought I would hate it, but after 10 mins i loved it. I’ve also never really understood the ‘tribalism’ with bikes, we all love two wheels, whats the hang up?

Were like that because in 1966 Honda introduced the "you meet the nicest people on a honda" ad campaign and sewed the seeds of the brand wars forever. When people who bought a honda started treating harleys like they were scum, the mentality of divided bikers became the standard.

Grab yourself a Russell Daylong seat with a back rest and it will get even better. I have 6 bikes, RGS, HD Low Rider S, KTM SDGT, Yam MT10, VMAX, Husq 701. I love them all but there is no bike in the world as comfortable as the RGS.....I have owned them all from the BMW LT's to Goldwings etc. Plus the RGS can be pushed hard in corners!!

Raging Ninja, look into Legend Suspension. You can get the cartridges for the front forks, and the 13 and 1/2 inch rear shocks. Gives a little more clearance.
