Aww man, didn't know that gameplay footage of this game are available in the early 2010s. I picked up this game around last year fully translated by the community (Thanks Hilltop & team), and able to enjoy the fast driving RPG of Racing Lagoon

This is Final Fantasy meets Tokyo Xtreme Racer/Shutokou Battle while the battle mode if you touched a rival racer and tune up your car after you beat the racer because Square develop both of these games for it.

That's what I thought. Sadly Genki and Crave aren't around to make another Shutoko game. All is left is Ubisoft to revive the Tokyo Xtreme Racer series since they worked on the LAST one and Square to get on their a** to bring back this game. What we have now is the Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune series that are only on Arcade cabinets as of this moment WHICH aren't bad games, to say. Last and only one we got on console from WMMT was the PS2 version.

Chillhood game for me. Seriously underrated & under the radar since it's release. Deserves a remake to be honest. This game needs to be appreciated more. I had fun playing it from 2000-2006 with my old PS1, great memories! :)

The Masaki Connection I remake might do ok, honestly I was never that big into the Tokyo Extreme Racer games. The first one I ever played for Tokyo Extreme Racer Zero. It was still early in the PS2 and there weren't that many good games available so I picked up Zero. Eh, it was OK. Never really could get into it though. Later I played Tokyo Extreme Racer 2 was I was big into Dreamcast collecting and I played that a bit more than I did zero.

I honestly don't know, but you are probably right. I never even noticed the same cover art until you noticed it. I played each game so little that I wouldn't have even noticed if they were the same!

Tokyo Xtreme racer had a similar concept to Racing Lagoon. Last one was TXR Drift 2 or in Japan, "Kaido Battle 3". Tokyo Xtreme racer is a big Cameo of Wangan Midnight. Tokyo Extreme Racer drift 1 and 2 are cameos of Initial D. Even Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 had cameos of Initial D as well. Racing Lagoon and Tokyo Xtreme Racer has aspects of what today's racing games have like in Forza Horizon over all: and that option is to have the ability to drive behind a racer and start up a point to point convoy race to a destination. Tokyo Xtreme Racer won't get a console reboot because Crave Entertainment got bankrupt. Instead, Genki is continuing the TXR series... But as a mobile game. As for Racing Lagoon, there hasn't been any hints or so that I've found for future games. Though here's a little fun fact: Final Fantasy XV's free roam driving with the Regalia was inspired by Forza Horizon 2 since Square Enix' staff is a fan of the Forza Horizon franchise - as you can tell they returned the favor of giving Turn 10 the Regalia.
