Racing Loons, Avalanche Lake, Glacier National Park

Common loons racing on Avalanche Lake in Glacier National Park. The racers make loud battle cries while their friends cheer them on at the beginning of the race but they eventually settle into silent concentration. This particular race lasted for over 10 minutes.

We just witnessed this very thing at a lake in northern Minnesota. The two loons went on and on for at least 20 minutes.
