Model yacht racing is a bit of a change for me from sailing the seas in big gaff cutters. So here we go for a fun morning out with a crowd of seriously good sailors in a totally different discipline. 'Starboard!'

Great video. I too had a Laser sometime ago and the last time I sailed it I spent more time getting back into it than I did sailing it. I decided I was getting too old and too slow. Regards Michael

I was given a radio controlled Nikko brand boat back in the 80s as a young boy for Christmas, Christina she was called. My grandparents had a caravan at Silloth over in Cumbria, off I went to the beach with Christina almost bursting with glee and apprehension as I set her in the Solway firth for her maiden voyage. She was promptly swamped and taken away with the tide. I still wonder where she ended up!

Amazing, and quite a skill. It's one thing to control a boat when you're on it and in the centre of the wind, quite another to sail remotely. By the way, did you know that the boating lake is quite a unique saltwater environment in the UK?

Unfortunately havent quite worked up to the 1:1 scale vessel yet but i currently have a nirvana class rc yacht and an 70s j class rc yacht that im restoring. Hoping to build a schooner over winter

Aloha, Thank you for posting your videos and memories of sailing your yacht as a child. Do you have the knowledge or know of resources that speak to the beginnings of the model yacht racing? I am wondering if model yacht racing would have taken place in Denmark around 1865. Thank you for your time.

Sadly, I don't know as much about the history of model yachting as I do about the development of the sailing/fishing boats. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that the excellent sailors of Denmark were sailing pond yachts back in the 19th century. I have recently acquired a hundred-year-old pond yacht of my own called Maud. The whole thing is fascinating. I'll make a video about the boat one day. Sorry I'm not more help. All the best Tom

RC boat sailing is calming for the soul, except when another boat show up on the water, then the small horn in your forehead grows. I’m sailing Dragonforce 65 and IOM.
