At speed, the loudest sound, as for all electric race cars, is actually the gear whine. ICE racecars make the same noise, but it's not as obvious over the engine. You can even hear the same noise in a street car in reverse, because that's it's only gearset that's straight-cut like a racecar's.

The Goodwood record is impressive if one thinks beating a bunch of historics is impressive. No one has tried to break the record with a similar effort and a modern car since 1999, after which comtemporary F1 cars were no longer outlawed to do timed runs due safety concerns. It was made for Pikes Peak and that record was impressive.

The fastest times since 1999 belong to aforementioned hillclimb special and '89 Jaguar XJR8/9. So, really, the VW is faster than an one year old F1 was in 1999, a hillclimb car built in someone's garage and an antique 80s Group C car. Wow, such an amazing achievement.

@@Liphzzy The time was very impressive but have no doubt an F1 car would demolish this up Goodwood Hill is they let them go full bore and a maniac decided to do it. F1 cars the last 3-4 years especially are miles faster than the 1998 McLaren that set that record. Just look at the Monaco pole times to get an idea of how much faster a modern F1 car is on a tight twisty circuit. The 2019 pole was over NINE seconds faster than the same McLaren's Monaco pole in 1998. Insane.

@@johnnytopgun6414 Unfortunately not. The cockpit could only be reserved for Mick Schumacher in the first free practice. Normally, he won't test an F1 car during a grand prix this year. There was only this one chance. But if he wins the F2 championship, he will not be allowed to race in F2 in 2021. Then there is a high possibility that he will get a seat next year at Haas or Alfa Romeo in the F1 World Championship.

I think watching this and looking at the battery development over the next 10 years, if F1 doesn't go electric as soon as the range comes into the window it will be a slower formula. That acceleration is insane!

if 4 tyres can be changed in less than 2 seconds, 10 seconds for a fuel stop when they were part of the race, i think a custom battery could be replaced in less than 10 seconds, even 2 batteries, one either side slid out and new ones slid in.

I saw this car on the Goodwood hill climb. You could visibly see how much quicker it was than all the other cars that went before it. Insane machine.
