So, fun fact about the sandygast that were melting in the rain, and any other pokemon that have environmental effects that happen to them (such as exploding voltorb or Hoppip flying away in the wind), shinies won't do that. They're immune, just the same way that they're immune from being murdered ala Let's Go Mode. So, Mikey could've just stayed put when it started raining, and gotten his shiny to spawn without even moving.

Fun fact: 10:00 when sandyghast spawns in the rain it will de spawn shortly after as it dislikes rain HOWEVER if it is a shiny it will not de spawn but rather stay and tough out the rain! So if Michael stayed and hunted it would have been significantly faster!

PSA : Shiny sandyghast doesnt disappear in the rain. So rain is actually beneficial to you when shiny hunting. Similarly shiny voltorb doesnt explode ans shiny sudowoodo doesnt run away from you as quickly and brambleghast blows away in a sandstorm but the shiny rolls very slowly!

Fun fact it's actually better to hunt shiny Sandygast in the rain! The rain will melt and despawn the regular ones but shinies are immune to that, the way shiny voltorb won't explode and shiny hoppip won't be blown away, so hunting sandygast in the rain just speeds up the spawns!
