Racingroovy, an obscure PS1 racing game

Racingroovy was published by Sammy Studios in 1997 for the original Playstation. As you can see, it's a very Ridge Racer-esque arcade racer. Very fun game that has been mostly forgotten about.

Looks like a mix between not just the interface and style of Ridge Racer, but also the sense of speed from Sega Touring Car Championship. Helps that some of the cars here look like they were taken from the DTM (German Touring Car Series) at the time.

This game is based on an old arcade called speed up, from Gaelco (Spain).

***** I know. Gaelco sold the game entirely designed a Japanese company called Sammy . But for some reason , they decided to change the game completely . I think they only used the graphics engine .

I've looked through the credits of the game, there's nothing in it that mentions Gaelco or Speed Up. I believe it's literally just the sound system that was designed for a speed up port that ended up being used here but nothing else

Yeah, the drifting takes more practice in this one, but I think it can be managed with some practice. Hopefully I can around to doing some time attack on the game eventually.

What do you think of Burning Road and Explosive Racing?

I don't have either, so I don't have an opinion on them. They look okay, but both seem to be lacking a time attack mode which kind of kills my interest on them right away.

Most people just put them off as Daytona clones, which is probably true. Not that unique, but at least they run better than the Saturn port of Daytona. (And they included elements of Japanese theatre in the Chinese level theme, which I find to be very amusing.)

This was an original disc played on an original PS1. Playing this outside Japan just takes a bit of effort, but it's absolutely doable. I'm playing it in Finland!

Best damn racing controller ever. I wish they'd make a modern version of it for current-gen systems and PC. Just change the shoulder buttons to analog triggers, replace the analog face buttons with normal ones and it'd be perfect.

Racingroovy has some awesome music, too bad the handling model is iffy (in my opinion) compared to Ridge Racer.
