Fastest time for this race in last 20 years or so, by quite a bit. Probably the largest winning distance as well. Great performance. State Man's Champion Hurdle last year was one of the worst I can ever remember. Constitution Hill will win the Champion Hurdle no matter how fast they go in front.

I have to agree with those that say there is something not right with some of Mullins yard. Neither State Man or Lossiemouth were able to keep up in their races and ran very flat. It puts the form of both hurdle races into perspective in that you wouldn't trust it to stand up.

Lossiemouth struggled to keep pace from the very start of the race, there was definitely something wrong with her, you could see it from the off but she still managed to finish only a couple of lengths behind C H and the other horses weren't far behind her and they are rated 30 odd pounds inferior to C H. So I'd really want to see C H run again before the Champion hurdle in order to form a strong opinion for or against him because this race didn't tell us much apart from the fact he's able to race again.

The Cheltenham executive should really have downgraded or moved the Mares Hurdle to another meeting because it is seriously diluting both the Champion & stayers Hurdle. Just imagine if both Lossiemouth and Brighterdaysahead duck the Champion Hurdle. Sir Gino has gone chasing so the Champion Hurdle could literally become a Walkover for Constitution Hill from the last hurdle to the Post. Cheltenham is supposed to be the Championship of Jump Racing.

Constitution Hill was good at Kempton but I remember a tingle creek with a supposed blow out only for the vanished to steam over gach duine in the champion !! The Cheltenham executive made changes after last years Festival. They looked at the Mares Hurdle and decided to leave it alone. When Mares were winning the Champion Hurdle, people were complaining about them getting a 7lb allowance. You can't have jam on both sides....

Clearly there is evidence that Willie's horses are below par, but I think the Gordy team outdid the Willie team tactically as well. It was windy enough there yesterday, not blowing a gale by any means, but a windy, gusty kind of day. Brighterdays got a nice bit of cover all the way round until she hit the front. Meanwhile State Man was left totally exposed, effectively making all the running for the second group. At Punchestown, Brighterdays was the exposed one, and she jumped badly left as well. She didn't have either of those problems yesterday.

Not exactly sure what to make of this. Great victory, 30 lengths over one of the outsiders. I have attended all of this great meeting this year but surely neither of the Mullins duo gave their true running. Stateman if running true to form indicates that this girl has improved by about 2 stone and thats surely impossible in the time. Even allowing for the pacemaker, the improvement is massive. If they opt to go champion hurdle and use a pacemaker, this girl might give CH a few problems. Willies other horse was eased in the final stages and thats two non events for this guy. Magnificent by Elliott and his team to produce such a devastating performance and it’s the most cordial i have ever seen the owner. Got to be the performance of the Christmas/ new year period bar none. Certainly food for thought

Mullins is becoming an old fool, hopefully his reign is coming to an end, it has not been good for racing. Apparently there is no race at the Cheltenham festival for Impaire Et Passe (he caned Gaelic Warrior there two years ago), he sent Ballyburn and Lossiemouth to a course that was never going to suit either of them... he's always been the same. He sent Annie Power to the stayers hurdle and Vautour to the Ryanair when they should have gone Champ Hurdle and Gold Cup. The most stubborn trainer out there, he wants the victories for himself, he doesn't do what is right by the horses he trains. Maybe he just has too many horses. He has such a high turnover of horses too, most of which only run a few times and never seen again. I could list 20-30 horses of his that run a few times and that's it, never seen again or if they are, they aren't the same horse. Clearly that yard are hard on their horses. Is that a good thing? I don't think so. Hopefully this is it now though, I hope his crazy reign at the top is on the turn.

Agree completely about Mullins wanting winners for himself.Also on the turnover thing Mullins dominates Irish bumpers he has dozens of individual bumper winners every season often 1run 1win then when you expect to see them over hurdles the next season guaranteed half of them never see again they just disappear off the face of the earth.Also to make room for his new recruits every season a lot of winners of say a hurdle or chase or two have to be moved out yet suspiciously for such a huge stable you don't see many of these horses continue their careers in other stables what has happened to them?!!!
