This video I was a little hesitant to post it, but really I want to sure some of the dark side to traveling anywhere else. This is no hate towards Korea, I love almost everything there, and I’m a skincare and makeup hoarder haha
I’ve always had great experiences in Korea but this was just a very hmmm interesting day. Again like I said the bus driver was very helpful and kind until my grandma spoke Chinese to me basically asking do we get on. At this point there’s no one behind us. Then he closed the door and pulled forwards to let people off for some reason, so I went to ask other people if this is the right bus which we were at the end of the line since it was the right bus. But this time he actually closed the door on us AGAIN which now I do think it’s because we are Chinese:(

Thats too bad. I was hoping Koreans have changed since we visited in 2007! Its almost been 20 years and it sounds they have not changed at all. Lol. When we visited back then, I remember telling my husband how unfriendly Koreans were! No one spoke English, and no one made eye contact with us. NO one was willing to give us instructuons on how to get to places, either, and if you didnt speak korean when a taxi came by, they refused to give you a ride. We left saying we'd never visit Korea again! We are now planning a trip to Japan in the spring and considered visiting Korea again, but knowing that much hasn't changed, I'm not so sure we should visit again... BTW, we also visited Thailand back thrn and omg! What a huge difference! The Thaia people were so kind, and everyone seemed like they wamted to help us! Many spoke English as well. Thailand was definitely a lot more friendly than Korea!

As a half Korean who was born in Korea but raised in the US (other half is Japanese), a middle aged woman in Busan refused to help my friend and I with directions to the beach all because she heard us speaking in English when we’re both fluent in Korean 😭 The friend I was with is literally full Korean and was also raised in the US but came back to live in Korea. It was the most prevalent when it came to taking the public transport. No taxis would stop when I hail them even though they were available. One time I went to a mom and pop restaurant and they made me pay before serving me, while Korean who came in were never made to pay immediately. The elderly man credit card machine didn't work and he felt so bad for that. He told us to take the $60 coat and to come back the next day to pay for it. We said we couldn't agree to that. So I ran 🏃‍♀️ through the alleys to get some cash for this man. He gave us free leggings and chocolates for the mishap lol too cute. Korean culture is only sensitive to directness, if it comes from foreigners. Since koreans tend to go mad real quick, the moment they encounter racism outside. Koreans are very direct themselves. They wouldn't hesitate to say their opinion out loud. Like calling someone "too dark" or fat. It's okay when they do it, but the moment they are called out, they try to immediately point the finger to somebody else. They tend to not want to admit their flaws.

The same happened to me in Korea, but I was fetishized. This guy in the subway kept asking if I was Chinese and from China, but then I said “no I’m American.” I am biologically Chinese but culturally, barely. He kept pressing and asking if I was Chinese over and over again. Tbh I just let him keep bothering me until the train stopped bc it would be odd asf yelling when the train is so quiet. Because I literally walked away, stayed quiet, and kept rejecting him, but he kept going on. People on Reddit asked “why didn’t you just say no?” As if I asked to be fetishized. I was literally underaged during that time and the guy looked 25

@@profile1565 Almost every country is equally on the internet. And yes there are bad apples everywhere. How come we don’t hear so many stories about other countries ?? I mean people visit so many countries not just Korea, yet it’s mostly Korea that’s on the news for their discrimination. There is a clear problem in that country that people are not even willing to acknowledge. Try taking responsibility for once.

This is why I get upset when people act like America is uniquely racist. Yes, racism exists in America and yes, it's a problem, but I struggle to believe it's the _most_ racist country, even though people often point their fingers at us when talking about racism. Believing that America is the poster child for racism is actually an embarrassingly America-centric opinion. For real, though, I'm sorry anyone has to experience this anywhere.
