This show was first on in the mid 90's so I saw it when it was first aired and it won a BAFTA. It's just as funny today. The only sad thing is that it ended because Dermot Morgan died. I'm currently reading Graham Linehan's autobiography. He was one of the writers of Father Ted. I recommend his book, well written, as you'd expect, and funny.

I enjoy English people in the comments on these Father Ted reaction videos. They enjoy the humour on a surface level, but unless you're from this weird, poetic, slightly demented, neutral wee island next door called Ireland, they can never *quite* grasp it :] Graham Norton has said that to the English, Father Ted is a surreal comedy show. To the Irish, it's a documentary.

And the fact that it is a "documentary" to quote Graham, is not entirely an endorsement of Irish culture, because this includes the utter control of the Catholic church on attitudes and customs here.
