Putting on theatrical makeup to play another race isn't racist. I'd sooner watch a competent actor or actress in special makeup portraying a foreigner than someone who doesn't have the acting chops, gravitas or screen presence to pull it off.

One of the biggest hurdles to overcome - is this insistence of USA to define peoples 'background' even if its so far in the past ... African American ... Asian American .... etc. This perpetuates a divide of peoples and can be more racist. Remove it and life can start to commingle and much of this racial attitude will go away.
