I agree with the rules for slow playing being intentionally vague. However, I do think there needs to be some standard noted and applied for the matchups, especially in this format where tear mirrors are commonplace and those games are by no means simplified. Staring at a complex board and GY setup for both players is going to take some time during either players turn as to game plan in one’s mind “how should I go about this with my mill hits and ishizu cards in GY.” Like I look at him taking a minute and a half to figure out how to break a spright board and I’m just like “take your time, this is a tough nut to crack” but maybe this is just me. I just don’t have an issue with slow play in complex board states.

what if you're physically disabled and you're using different ways to play other than keyboard and mouse. It takes me more time to think and make a move. I'm physically disabled but i use a controller to emulate a mouse. i guess i could tell my opponent but how is he/she going to react.

@@desvati4074 I know that, but sometimes you can get deep into planning out plays that you kinda “zone out” and lose track of the “minute” you asked for. Like I’ve been in scenarios where I look at a board state, say “thinking” or “big think” in chat and during this my thought process is basically going “ok so if I go A, and he responds with B, then my backup plan needs to be C. But if he doesn’t to A then from here I need to do D ect. Ect. Ect.” And while I’m planning this out I don’t want all of a sudden the game to be paused and a judge called cause I was “slow playing”. Again, I understand why it needs to be vague, but that doesn’t mean that the rule being “reasonable time” isn’t subjective to the will of, let’s face it, the judge.

I think that 1:30 to think is a reasonable time when you are starting a turn in a though situation, sometimes you need to read cards in detail and think about the posible interactions. If the player went at a reasonable pace afterwards I don't see why issue a warning. But yeah, judge opinion is final

I mean, even if there was a hard time limit, if you need some little extra time, you can always just say you're thinking, and then play it out. As long as you don't abuse it repeatedly, though. Otherwise games would look like they do in the YGO WC 2011 DS game, where the CPU takes close to a minute and a half thinking every time they make an action.

I think another good point with the slow play rule, if you've got two cards in your hand and the board's pretty clear, you probably don't need the full minute and a half to think, That's just malice. But if the board is decorated like a gosh-turn Christmas tree, I know sometimes I need to sit and really try to plan out every scenario that could go down 😅

Considering Ishizu exists right now, I feel like any game involving involving them should just have a silently agreed upon +30 seconds of patience before someone needs to mention they need to take extra time to think. I could be locked in this format for a good year and still need at least 2 minutes, and I'll constantly be going "what the fuck do I do here, and how the fuck should I attempt to do it?"

1:30 is more than enough to read a whole board. If that isn't enough you might as well just write your opponent that you need to read the cards or simply "think". If nothing happens for 1:30 you're either maliciously slow playing or not comfortable enough with communications to even play rated. If your opponent has a whole Endymion or Qliphort board and you type "need to read your cards" and your opponent calls judge after a minute then I doubt you'll even get a warning. Judge will most likely simply tell you that you should at least make a play the next 30 seconds so you don't seem like you're just wanna take your opponent hostage.

The first thing about kids he said? Good one thing that's kinda just how kids are If they're being weird but harmless, you as someone who isn't their parent or sibling should just deal with it. Let them spin the thing and have their fun, reading about a fish isn't important enough to get worked up about. Also might I add, not all kids are like that. At least not always to that extent. There *are* children who have a naturally calmer demeanor. You just don't notice them because they're the quiet ones. The second thing about tantrums? Yeah like OP said, for young children it's more on the parents. Because if they're making a tantrum it's often because they haven't learned not to yet. Sometimes that's because the parent hasn't effectively *taught* them not to. Every child throws a tantrum sooner or later. It's not their fault if they simply don't know yet that they shouldn't. Some get taught not to do it again, and some are simply allowed to continue.

I was at nationals and I patiently let a guy take 2- 2 and half minutes to think about a play in games 2 and 3. I didn't call a judge, understood that certain plays could wildly affect how the game goes, and I let him finish his combo. Lmao then when it came to my turn, and I took 20-30 seconds to think about how to break his board, he calls a judge and claims I'm slowing playing. I let you deliberate for way longer than I should and then I take a normal amount of time assessing the situation and you are the one that calls a judge for slow play? Like smh what the heck. Match ended in a draw. Moral of the story, there are totally people out there that will slow play and then take advantage of peoples tolerance for it and then not give their opponent the same courtesy.

When I was a teenager I would say all sorts of nasty things like racial slurs all the time, even though I genuinely didn't have a problem with those people, but I grew out of it. I learned that it's entirely possible to support free speech and edgy humor without blurting out slurs repeatedly, some people just haven't gotten to the point where they understand that (and sadly, some never do.) I also learned that there is a difference between dark comedy that anyone can enjoy, and saying slurs just for the sake of saying slurs but again, some people never learn.

There’s nothing that says you can’t tribute face down monsters (unless the effect specifically asks for face up monsters)

Ordinarily, to do something to a specific subset (e.g. "level 2" or "trap") of monster or spell/trap card on the field, the card must be face-up. Tributing and fusion summoning are the exceptions. You can use face-down cards that meet specific requirements to do either of those things.

this might be a hot take but I think the vague time rules are very bad also I like to think about my moves in strategy games like if there was a vague slow play rule in chess then I wouldn't want to play because some positions need a big think some are automatic replies sometimes you longer thinks back to back to back because you know if you get it right you are easily winning even with the time pressure of the clock so the time bank idea is great because if your opponent decides to take too long then they get punished by a loss and a judge doesn't have to be bothered also it allows people to think deep if they want to on certain plays and they don't have to worry about slow play the vague slow play rules I think are just a bad solution just use a system like chess you could even do different time formats it could be fun but yeah not being able to think or not being sure how long is too long is just terrible for competitive play and waste of a judges time

so like, I play MD now, and I come from magic, and if someone is tanking on a sim online (db mgo etc), usually I give them roughly a minute to think if its a moderately consequential decision. There's an element of indecisiveness that I think is lost online that you can sus (amogus?) out in irl play, where an opponent has a read on a play you could make or is seriously considering HT/counter magic or what your deck might be on. So I kind of get why the french guy is a little bit toasty, because ultimately a decision like dweller in standby, while not immediately identifiable as game-critical and should probably have been already considered during opponent's turn, may be important later. 20 seconds in the upkeep step in magic is next to no time at all. Although, guy should said something at least. Different philosophies, I suppose.

I'ma be honest, the more I see the current state of the game the more I wish they never changed the ruling that link summoning was a must if you wanted to play ED monsters in the regular monster zone It would definitely handicap OTK ftk forcing links then to boss monsters and probably encourage Maindeck boss cards

I personally think that DB needs to implement a short-ish chess clock. But since DB is a manual simulator that would make things complicated... Still, there needs to be a consistent way to pressure players to play at a reasonable pace and communicate. Like even simple emotes like "thinking" could save a lot of headaches.

Gotta agree with the whole "kids being assholes" thing. Worked in a supermarket for about a year, one night had some brat climb up and start running on the conveyors at the checkout. Trampling people's groceries. And I'm just there like, what do I do? I won’t deny that I don’t like parents who do nothing and let phones and tablets raise their children, but it is seldom exclusively the kid’s fault. Kids are developing still. It’s 99% of the time the parents. Kids don’t know better most of the time. I still see people who are grown ass adults that throw tantrums like that. With kids it’s expected. With adults? Grow up! 🙄 I don’t hate kids. I don’t appreciate the epidemic of bad parenting. It’s hard to keep a kid under control for sure. I wish Konami would just reboot the game already. Wipe it all away and go back to just normal monsters and new rules. The game is extremely unbalanced and some things are just extremely confusing. Also, don't get me started on ftks and otks.

@@ObviouslyDeven It all started with normal/effect then fusion. Mean we can have all 3 but the issue is there's no card balance plus there's to many ways to summon things. So why not just a fresh start?

​@@thenobody7509 But what's bad about having many ways to summon things? I have a strong bond with the synchro era so I play adamancipator. Which isn't meta but def. viable in master duel. Some people like fusions more because they are GX guys. So they play branded or Tear. XYZ Fans play Zoo or sum shit and Link guys play Salamangreat. And if you don't like Extra Deck then you can easily play floo which uses none of that. It's literally just normal summon tribute summon set 5 pass and at the same time it's one of the most annoyingly best decks right now. You see, the game is actually balanced. Or at least it was until Tear hit TCG. Balancing doesn't mean that everything is equally strong. Because that would be stupid af. There would be no reason to have multiple archetypes. As long as there is no Tier 0 Deck, then the game is balanced because more than 1 deck is meta. And that's fine. It's like that in every card game.

@@thenobody7509 A fresh start would ruin a lot of people's yugioh. Because we are so used to the current meta and summoning mechanics that resetting the game would be like taking all your life achievements away and saying "do it again". Cards printed would be worthless. And IMO the worst thing is, the beginning of yugioh was the most horrible and boring yugioh of all time. Yata-Lock? Warrior Beatdown? Scientist FTK? Monarch Control? GOAT Control? Sorry but I have more fun watching paint dry. But I agree with one thing. There should be Retro Format Support. Even like a whole YCS for GOAT format. Because then there wouldn't be so many people complain how "old yugioh was best yugioh" while they clearly never played in tourneys in 2003. I offer you the chance to play 9 *matches* (about 6 hours) of 2003 format back-to-back against me (or somebody else). I have yet so see someone who actually has fun doing that.

@@ObviouslyDeven I see your point. My issue with the current state of the game is for me it seems extremely unbalanced. There's so many ways to get stuff out that it's extremely easy to make it so your oppenent can't do anything. Espically if they are new to the game like I am. Idk about tear but i do know that when something new comes out like despia/branded for example it completely eclipses everything else. I want to have fun but rn I'm not sure how. I play online
