Thanks Josh, Yes it does look very KTMish. I got the Adventure rack in case the T7 needed to be carted. That would be a 2 man job loading it, And one of those guys would need to be in Green Tights. LOL.

Cheers Pete. Good video with clear instructions and demonstrations. It looked reasonably stable when you drove onto the road near the end. I used to have a similar rack. The big problem you can have is the downward forces on your hitch. Yes, it’s going to be around 200kg static, but when you go over a bump or dip in the road, the bike and rack act like a pendulum and you’ll get a bounce effect of both lesser and much larger forces on the hitch. This passes directly to the hitch mount points on the car. I probably would not recommend using it for long journeys or bumpy roads. It could literally tear a chassis apart. I’ve always wondered if there was a way to have support straps going to the top of the rear door / roof rack to try and support some of the weight. Never figured it out though. I’ve since sold mine and now share a trailer with a couple of mates. Saying all that, I do hope you get many safe kms out of yours. Cheers, Jason.

Thanks Jason, You do bring up some interesting points for people to think about. The bigger 4WD's I Believe should be O.K. with the weight, and of course you should drive accordingly to the load on the vehicle. Really appreciate your comment. Regards Pete.

I think the dynamic load is taken into account. If your hitch is rated for 1000 lbs. of tongue weight, then that's the rating. It doesn't matter if it the tongue weight was applied by a tow behind trailer or a motorcycle hitch carrier. The tow behind trailer forces would be subject to the same forces when going down bumpy roads, over railroad tracks, etc. Those forces are multiplied whether it's a trailer that's applying 1000 pounds of downward force or or a hitch carrier.

Hi Jason. As long as you stay within the ball weight recommendations of the vehicle. It wouldn’t matter whether there is a trailer on the hitch or his bike carrier.

I think I will stick with a trailer. The DR650 weighs 167kgs (369lbs) without any added accessories. Add the weight of the rack 40kgs (90lbs) and you are up to 207kgs (459lbs). That is a lot of weight on the back of your car or truck. And you need to be sure your hitch has sufficient weight capacity. However good video Pete - keep them coming.

Looks like a quality piece of gear, well made by the look of it but I can load my bike quicker & safer onto my trailer, looks risky as the bike could fall & always wondered about the weight on the towbar & the twisting forces. The Toyota is a big car & it's still wider, I'm just not sure on the concept, good video Pete but I will stick with my trailer. I understand not everyone has a trailer or the room to store one but that is a heavy rack to take on & off as I'm sure you would not leave it on the car all year round.

Shims are cool.. Most racks have more slop.. Plus you can just wrap some black electrical tape around the end of the carrier stem

I would reposition the center heat shrink joint away from the vertical, its just going to collect water and possibly lead to a bad joint.

Well done great video of installation etc , is the rack itself able to be mounted front of bike to the center of road as yeah if ya vehicle breaks down you dont wanna be unloading bike towards the traffic 👍😊 Looks darn sweet and KTM colors inspired 👌 awesome unit

Watched it couple times now and wandering the ramp bolt if you feed it from the tailgate side is it long enough to just slip through both sides of ramp bracket and ramp side of deck to feed the R clip through ❓ as looks close from the video 👍😊

The Adventure Bike rack doesn't have the front wheel lock, The smaller Bike rack from Rack N Roll does as far as I'm aware.

The other weird thing happened this week. I was in my paddock, about 50m from the highway and a new wifi network notification popped up. Name of the wifi channel Started with DR-650….. I had my back to the road so didn’t see what went past..

No I haven't used a chain oiler. I don't put any lube or oil on my chain. The chain stays clean. After washing the bike I wipe clean with a rag with a little WD-40 on it.

gidday mate, great video... hey do these things have a load rating on them at all? Not the tow hitch but the actual rack gadget? I have a different brand one that I originally bought for a CRF250 and am wondering about using it to pick up my 800cc adventure bike that's about 225 kerb weight..

Hi Randal, The Rack n roll Adventure rack that I have is rated for a bike up to 300kg, This suits most 4WD vehicles here in Australia with Tow Ball Limits. In my opinion, I would not put a Big adventure bike on a carrier that I didn't know the load limit it could carry. Regards FPPete.

Hi T.h. My advice would be to ring Rack N Roll and speak to them. They are very helpful and would be able to advise you if you need extra bars, You can always buy more if you find you need them. I have the rack because I don't have them room for a bike trailer. So this is the only way I can transport my Bikes. Regards FPPete.

Yes you need to be bloody careful, and the more you load/unload the easier it is, but getting a mate to help would be a much safer option.

Yes they are expensive. However they are Aussie made and extremely well engineered, and in my opinion, I wanted the best money could buy when I have a $20k T700 or other expensive toy hanging off the back on 4wd tracks to the camp site. They are not for everyone, especially if you have budget constraints. Friendly service, and the owner is happy to answer any questions. Kind regards FPPete.
