Love this video. The slow swing tip has helped my mechanics immensely!

Cash Culture awesome! Thanks! Your warmup techniques are so simple yet effective. I will start this as well. I am a 56 year old guy, been playing for over 30 years (with about a 6-7 year break in there, which I wish I had not done!). Back on the court now for about 3 years and doing well!

Awesome, good to hear you're playing again! I quit for years at a time and few occasions and came back as well. It's always fun to relearn the game :P

After watching a lot of your matches you post, it's interesting watching this old video of you practicing. And even though I'm also a higher level player like yourself I'm always working on my mechanics. One problem I've always had is when I strike the ball in an "out and around motion" (like Cliff Swain or Sudsy) I don't skip much but the ball tends to often sail in an upward motion which makes killing the ball difficult. So when it strikes the strings of the racquet, the ball doesn't fly completely FLAT through the air (it tends to slightly rise) making me have to hit it at a very low height off the ground (lower than most people). But problem is I don't always have time to get the body super low in a fast pace rally. What's also interesting is you don't get full extension most of the time (even in these warm ups) but you are EXCELLENT at getting the ball to travel straight (not upward at all) off the strings. Is there some secret to your ability to get the ball to travel flat (no rise) without getting full extension?

Good question! The basic objective is to have the racquet perfectly perpendicular to the floor at the desired contact point while having your arm and wrist in the most natural hitting position possible (not bent or twisted to make the racquet flat). If you extend your racquet out to your desired “extended” contact position and hold it there comfortably, you might find that your strings are angled slightly upwards but when you do it with your old contact point the racquet is relatively flat. If that’s the case, then you may need to make a grip adjustment for your new “out and around swing.” The secret is that a lot of these variables change if you change your desired contact point. In my case, I like to hit the ball more inside because it allows me to hit the ball lower in a way that feels natural and easier on my body. At 6’5, if I swing out and around I will be contacting the ball 4 or 5 feet in the air most of the time unless I want to bend my knees and expend energy trying to stay low. I also don’t get jammed as easily and can do better in a bang-bang rally situation with a shorter swing. The tradeoff if that I don’t generate as much power when I swing like that.
