This channel is underrated - the videos are well filmed and edited, instructions are clear with animated graphics and backed by data and research. You guys have great energy and obviously enjoy what you are doing and in return makes us enjoy the video more. There are a lot of tennis lessons on youtube focusing on what not to do and the negative vibe makes me not want to play at all. I do think sometimes the jokes and outtakes distract us from the really nice insights and maybe it'll be better to keep them in a B-reel at the end but that's just my opinion.

It is funny that 5.2% speed contribution due to forearm pronation is called massive technique and game change, while 54.2% speed contribution thanks to upper arm internal rotation should have been emphasized more. Imaging 5% of improvement of any technique means nothing for most of us. A misguiding tennis technique video here!

@@ve1803 Nope, you're wrong. I've been pronating since I watched their videos and it put ZERO pressure on the shoulder when combined with let drive and proper trophy pose and racquet drop.

I believe that with the proper grip and being loose enough, leading on edge and pronation occur naturally. I have a feeling all of the top servers when they were young didn't even know what pronation was, but they were able to be loose enough to implement the correct mechanics early on.
@DavidBreneisen Жыл бұрын
Probably, I was never taught pronation and do it, but not to the extreme amount that the pros do which feels pretty unnatural without specifically training it.
@capricornmagic63 Жыл бұрын
I agree with this 100%. I'm pretty sure no one told Stan Smith, Dick Stockton, Chip Hooper, Yannick Noah, Boris Becker, Ivanisevic, Sampras and so many others about pronation. Tennis coaches today try too hard to be all-knowing and I have a feeling that they would complicate rather than simplify things. This guy in particular I find annoying he seems immature and giggles like an idiot.

In the clip, where he say counter clockwise (59 seconds into the video) this is the illustration. While he says that, notice which way the arrow is pointing. He should have said clockwise, not counterclockwise, unless you are the opponent looking at the server, then it would be counter clockwise, and we are looking from the perspective of the server, thus clockwise.

That is a great point indeed! If you have the shoulder mobility, strength and joint stabilization, I've noticed it to be one of the best types of post-contact rotations that also creates so much spin (hence Sampras' deadly kick) 😉

The serve is probably the most complex stroke in tennis utilizing pretty much every part of the body. Legs, hips, back, shoulder, forearms, and wrist. It's like sending a shockwave of force from the ground through your body to your hands to get maximum racquet head speed. And this channel explains it very thoroughly. 👍

Hey there, I watch and enjoy all of your videos. You two are as knowledgeable as you are entertaining. Since this video is about pronation, I was wondering what your opinion is on this one here (kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6qmm5mlgMmXl6M) . I am only asking because sometimes I do find myself trying way too hard at pronating that I forget about all the other fundamental movements of the serve. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks and "until next time, go out and try hard. I'll see you in the next video". 😉

Great video! However, I think what you’re missing in your videos is what do you even do on contact? Like let’s say I do everything right in your video, but if I just keep hitting the ball at the wrong angle or the wrong brush motion then it’s all pointless. For example, if a player hits a forehand with a “windshield wiper” on contact they will never generate the same amount of rpm or “heaviness” as someone who skims the top of the ball and follows through like the pros. What players do at contact is insanely crucial. Without including that part in your videos, then it’s really hard to see the effects of the kinetic chain. If what you’re doing on contact is wrong, i feel like it just won’t work 🙁. I know because I used to do a windshield wiper forehand. Then, my coach told me I’m doing everything wrong on contact and once I did things correctly on contact, my forehand was incredible. I hope maybe you could add that to your videos going forward. That is the key ingredient you’re missing.

I really appreciate all of the biomechanics as someone who deals with medicine on a daily basis (physician), this makes more sense to someone like myself. I think a lot of this is information is instituted in the techniques by top coaches without delving to the young players "why we do what we do". Again, thank you for this phenomenal explanation.

Wow 5000th like! I was over rotating through the arm and started to get medial epicondylitis from it. I’m going to experiment with stretching the pecs and shoulder then doing serves that rotate from the shoulder when my tendons are less inflamed. Thanks!

Here I am again. Two years into trying to learn how to serve I am back to this video where my research for correction begun. My serve still doesn't exist. I'll give it another try.
@marktace1 Жыл бұрын
Conceptually one should get more speed by continuing internal rotation past contact due to not slowing down into contact but the racquet head slows down so much at impact that one can probably go into impact at full speed and still have very little external rotation past impact. The main reason for involuntary internal rotation past release in throwing is deceleration and that just isn’t an issue with serving due to how much the racquet slows at impact (and because the hand isn’t moving as fast given that a racquet is much heavier than a baseball.)

Great videos. Question for you: My son has a hard time "hitting on Edge" with his serve (he ALWAYS "waiters trays" it). I'm thinking about switching his grip to a more OPEN grip as it forces an "on edge" motion at the peak....I know the CONTINENTAL grip is the golden rule...so do you think this is a good idea?
@RacquetFlex Жыл бұрын
Hey Patrick, great question! Typically, the problem I see is more in the player not understanding "how to strike the ball" from the on-edge position. For your son, I'd recommend focusing more on: 1. Getting used to a relaxed throwing motion (without and with the racquet). If you achieve a full, relaxed racquet drop, a lot of the time, the on-edge position takes care of itself. 2. Getting used to how the pronation motion can generate force over the ball. Most players think "push through" with their entire arm - with this thinking, opening the strings up is actually the stronger position. Leading on-edge only becomes comfortable when the player is able to feel "rotating through" the ball with their racquet (from the shoulder and forearm). P.S. We actually made a full video series on the Serve Swing Mechanics that I think would really help you guys out. It's free right now. You can check it out here: www.racquetflex.com/serve-challenge I hope it helps! Cheers, - Daytri
