Hi Reza! A very great and detailed video! What if I need to bring data from the cloud into a local on premise power bi reporting server? I want to develop locally develop and publish a BI report that uses two types of data: 1) an on premise data sources that cannot be uploaded to the cloud 2)an enterprise level data sources that exist in the cloud. All the videos on on-premise gateway only talks about the flow of data from the on premise data source to the cloud, but not the other way around. Would you be able to provide some insights or maybe a tutorial video for this? Thank you very much..

I have my SQL database in AWS RDS. Is there some way to avoid using the gateway altogether, apart from hosting the database in Azure or using OneDrive/Sharepoint?

I watched the whole video a couple of times. but I could not find my answer. I have a problem now with my gateways. We have different customers with their workings spaces on Power BI that we want to connect their datasets on Power BI to their databases to Exact Online. The datasets are available through an On-premises gateway. But when they are scheduled to be refreshed, the one that the credentials are applied works but if it happens at the same time with another dataset through the gateway it does not work and one of the datasets does not ger refereshed. My question is, do I have to create different gateways for every customer and working space or I can have one gateway for all of working spaces?

The credentials are validated and able to fetch data on Power BI desktop, but the credentials are not validated on service side and thus not able to refresh the data when I type me windows user name and password how can I fix that???😊

Hello Sir, We need clarity about the gateway, In our organization we use VPN for DB, So If the admin can create a report in powerBI means they are using VPN at that time. At that time only the remaining can see the report otherwise its showing error in the report.

It depends on the connection type you use when you connect from Power BI to SQL Server. If you use DirectQuery, yes, it would be slow, and gateway can make it even slower. But if you use Import, then the time will be only spent at the time of refreshing your model, the Power BI runtime performance won't be affected by the gateway. I have videos about both DirectQuery and Import data in this channel.

I have a dataset stored in a PostgreSQL database and have successfully created a Power BI dashboard. However, I am encountering challenges while setting up the gateway in the Power BI service. The issue arises due to an additional layer of security in the form of a VPN that we use to access the database. Great video indeed. I have setup the gateway on my laptop connecting to the on prem sql database. The gateway is running properly. However, I am getting an error "On-premise data gateway failed to impersonate the user" while doing power bi dataset refresh. Struggling to understand where I am going wrong.

I have two separate email with two complete separate Power BI accounts. Would I need separate gateways for each email domain?

You can share a gateway from one account to the other. The gateway have different access levels. you can give either admin access to both accounts. or give data source level permission under the gateway, so that the other account can use the same gateway.

What if i already have an API Gateway (Tyk or Kong gateway) in my infrastructure. What are the considerations / added values to add the Power BI Gateway in my infrastructure?

Not sure what do you mean by API gateway. If this is a gateway to work with a specific API, then it won't work with the Power BI connection. Power BI connection to your on-premises data sources will need a Power BI gateway.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Im not referring to a specific API, but a "generic" component between the world wide web and protected resources (on premise). Like for example Tyk or Kong or Layer7 et cetera. For example... what if "Power BI Gateway" is a texteditor and you would recommend Microsoft Word. Can i use open office instead? or notepad? Ofcourse, this is not about what is best or not.

آقا دست شما درد نکنه، فقط اینکه همه جا رو توضیح مفصل دادین اما بخش اصلی ساخت گیت‌وی رو سرویس رو با اسلاید فرمودین که خیلی مشخص هم نبود، مثلا اسم کلاستر رو موقع تعریف گیت‌وی چی بدیم؟ ممکنه من رو سیستم لوکال اصلا کلاستر نداشته باشم و فقط گیت‌وی رو کانفیگ کرده باشم؟

What about if I have two clusters and my Power BI report use one source from first cluster and another source from the second cluster? I tried but the report wouldn't refresh - is this limitation? Reports could use only one cluster?

Do u have any idea what is going here (i am going crazy): Gateway set on account #1. I use its connection for MySql query and Sharepoint on my dev account. Both connections are organizational. I made a dataflow in a Pro workspace with above mentioned connections. It can’t be refreshed due to the fact that these sources cannot be used in single query. It is ridiculous. It works in regular power query. Morover same dataflow works and can be refreshed in premium workspace. No logic behind the error. Any ideas?
