The 'sphere' on top of bridge is ARTE m/62 Artillery Control Radar It is used to search airspace and sea and to direct the ship's weapons to hostile targets. The Radar consists of two parts: One S-antenna for surface targets... and one E-antenna for air targets. The S-antenna is also used for reconnaissance, torpedo homing and navigation. The S-antenna sweeps the horizon in a spiral movement. When an air target is localized bearing and distance is immediately known. The E-antenna will then lock on automatically on target. This also provide elevation. When S-antenna localize a surface target we already have all information for opening fire. The artillery crew fires the ship's weapons from the artillery control center. Radar screen show the ship's position in the center. Also the ships bearing from north is shown with a line. At last distance circles can be projected, in order to easier detect the distance to the hostile target.
