Always a spectacular result. I have become aware that graphene coatings have become the new “thing” in automobile coatings. The chemical bond they produce lasts longer than ceramic with increased gloss and durability. Ease of application is also a plus with these finishes. Beautiful job on this RS5! I didn't know the RS5 hosted a V8 engine, but even if you hadn't filmed it, it was easily hearable at the end, nice to incorporate the sound. Good job on the new font and 'subtitles', I think they are extra sleek. Cool to see that you learn from other youtubers, and also credit them, truly gentlemen-like Rick! By the way, is it possible that in the future, you do a video solely based on the interior or the engine bay of a car? I certainly would love to see videos specific and in-depth about one topic every now and then. Cheers!
@RADGarage4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jaap. I"m always trying to learn and push my practice forward. As for the engine bay, that's one part of the process I have shied away from in recent years. I might tackle that on my own car, but I am too gun shy to do that on someone else's car because I would feel terrible if I was to do it improperly and enter water into sensitive areas of an engine compartment. I can certainly appreciate your idea though. Concentrating on a certain aspect is a great way to add some variety to my channel. Thanks for mentioning that.

@@RADGarage Understandable, the first time ( and only time so far) that I cleaned my mother's engine bay, I only lightly scrubbed the painted sides and engine cover, and then chickened out😅. @@RADGarage did you find the graphene trickier to apply?
@RADGarage4 жыл бұрын
It wasn't so much trickier, but I had seen a video prior by Brian at Apex about how hard this stuff bonds and at one point in the project I lost track of a little portion I coated. When I realized I hadn't buffed the excess off I freaked out! Luckily, it polished off real easy but I had thought I had made a fatal mistake! I think I need to get more experience under my belt with graphene and I'll be able to relax a bit. I did find it a bit tricky to know exactly when it was time to wipe away the excess. The instructions say to wait until you see a cloudy/foggy appearance but that wasn't always apparent. The spread was awesome though. On a black car it was super easy to see where I had applied the coating because it really goes on evenly and was easy to see.

Thank you very much for sharing this, Rick. I’ve found myself gravitating to watching your videos because, in addition to the cinematics, I can relate. I’m a huge Audi fan, I also have a son, and on 4th of July weekend, I spent 8 hours detailing my car’s exterior. My wife supports my detailing, but even she asked why it took 8 hours (I washed, clayed and polished before coating). I can totally see how you’ve invested 15 hours for the interior and exterior detail. I’m not a pro detailer, and I don’t have as nice of a garage as yours, but I find detailing to be relaxing and a way to be one with my thoughts. I look forward to when you apply this graphene coating to your SQ5 and share your thoughts, because I’ve been looking for a more durable coating (I’ve applied a ceramic spray coating that’s expected to last 6 mos) for our cars. More power to you and your channel. Take care! 😃

I am inserted in its performance as well. I plan on doing my own car here in the next little while. Since I have used multiple ceramic coating in the past, I'll have a good baseline for comparison.

Hey my friend, another great detail. A little surprising to see rupes dust like that, maybe your pads were clogged a bit. But I do know there older formulas did dust a bit. An FYI for you. Since you have tire covers, as I do. I like dress the tires after the car is washed and dress the engine as well before I work on the paint. That way I don't get dressing on the paint. It makes it a while lot easier and you just have to worry about the paint at that point. Your videos are getting better and better my friend. RAD is really RAD.

Yeah, I get that. I find that the tire dressing stains the wheel covers though, so I prefer to do the dressing as one of the very last steps. The way I apply the dressing, there's no real way to transfer dressing to the paint. I did clean and dress the engine bay prior to addressing the paint. That Rupes polish is done. That was the second pass with that fresh pad and the dust was brutal. I need to replenish my compounds and polishes. Way too many of them are old now.

@@RADGarage i feel you my brother. What's your next set of polishes?

I'm open. CarPro, Sonax, not quite sure. I will be speaking with Chris and Carzilla and see what he has to say. Do you have any suggestions?
@majesticdetail34224 жыл бұрын
@@RADGarage lol, thats a huge suggestion my friend. You can't go wrong with Sonax. From Cut Max to Perfect Finish those 2 combos will do so much for you. But, Gyeon Primer, Gyeon PPF renew is great for when your prepping for coating and films. 3D one is an all around great polish especially for B and C pillars while 3D Xtra Cut ACA works great for hard paints. Carpro Essence + is great for repairs on coatings. A great all around cutting compound I've been using lately, which works great with microfiber and wool is the last cut by Jay Price. Great finishing abilities. It's really hard to say which ones I would use without doing a test spot on the car for the optimum result. But these are the ones I always have in stock. I have other ones too but I use these the most. I'm sure Carzilla carries most of them.

In this case, no clay bar was used. Did you determine the paint was clean enough to just skip to the cut/polish phase? or in what scenarios can you skip claying before polish?

I just feel the paint. If I don't feel contaminants, I move to correction. I know this car well and I know it is garaged at home and work. It is driven daily but not on major roads where it would see heavy commercial traffic. Mechanical and chemical decontamination would have been a waste of time in this case. Good question though.

This is amazing!!!! What would you charge for something of this caliber detail
@RADGarage4 жыл бұрын
If I was fully charging, I'd probably have to hurry up and not spend so much time on it! These projects you see me complete for others are super good deals because I'm not doing this for the money. I charge a little, but not near what a pro would.

Rick, what wheel brushes do you use? What do you use to clean them after you are done?
@RADGarage4 жыл бұрын
I've picked up a wide variety of brushes over the years. The one I find myself using every time is the "toilet bowl brush". It is the Daytona Speedmaster PRO and it has been discontinued. EZ Detail brush is similar but it is blue. I also have a smaller version of that brush as well as a stiff bristle carpet brush I have relegated it to tire duty. I have a wool 4-finger mitt from Griot's I use for the face and a typical detail brush I use for the lugs. None of these brushes are anything super special, but they work well and I always get good results. I just simply rinse the brushes with water after I'm done and let them hang to dry.

Which towel do you like to use with the Defy? Thx Rick
@RADGarage4 жыл бұрын
It is a CarPro towel I have had around for a long time but never used. I think it is a glass towel to be honest. I find I don't have any short-pile low gsm towels appropriate for coating removals so I am going to hit up Carzilla to get some Detail POPO Ocean Wave Weave 320gsm towels that should do the trick. You definitely don't want a plush towel when removing excess coating.

I noticed you use a regular spray nozzle to rinse the car after the contact wash instead of the pressure washer. Is this just for the cinematography or is there more to it?
@RADGarage2 жыл бұрын
There’s not a lot to it. The way I see it, the only purpose of a rinse at that point in the process is to get the soap that is carrying the particulates off the car as quickly and efficiently as possible. The surface of the car is now clean so my focus is to rinse the soap off in seconds with a regular hose nozzle. The high pressure rinse with the foam is what loosens and dislodges the dirt from the paint and in the tight panel gaps.
