That first gold filled bracelet with enamel is Victorian, I sold a similar bangle a few months ago for around $65, so that was a good pick-up.
@ThriftHunter8 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm always looking for the gold filled Victorian pieces, all of them sell really well. I've sold some small gold filled lockets for north of $65 with tons of interest, same for the bangles. You see them all the time until you start trying to buy them and realize they are pretty rare. Thanks for watching.

Can you or have you ever done a video about taking silver scrap to a refinery? I have silver scrap about 680 grams. I have never done this before and would like to get some tips on what to look out for, how they calculate the amount they would pay. Should i expect to get the spot price for the items?

The jadeite necklace is lovely but the stringing of the beads is odd. There should be a knot between each bead to prevent all of them from scattering if the string breaks. Silk thread is often used as the knots would be visible. Also, the holes in the beads appear to of different sizes & rough cut. The (brass?) joinery/ latch is interesting & appears old ( on camera). If this is indeed jadeite, is it possible the beads originated as a very old necklace that was damaged and later (clumsily) restrung as currently viewed?

Great Video, I always learn something when i watch your videos. I considered gold filled to be the same or similar to gold plated. Now I have a different perspective. Thanks
@ThriftHunter8 жыл бұрын
I do seriously well on gold filled. It's a lot harder to find than you think. It's one of those things you see all the time until you start trying to buy it all. A lot of people think I'm saying that gold plated items are valuable, when gold filled is completely different than plated. Finding marked gold filled items is difficult. Thanks for watching

@@ThriftHunter is gold filled what they call vermeil? gold on top of sterling?
@ThriftHunter5 жыл бұрын
@@fabulouslifeinchrist1349 No they are all different terms. Gold filled jewelry is when you take solid gold and make it into a thin sheet and sandwich it with a base metal in between like copper or brass. Stamped gold filled items like 1/20th 10K are legally required that 1/20th the weight of the entire piece be made of 10K solid gold. So if an item weighs 20 grams, you can assume roughly 1 gram is gold.

@@ThriftHunter Where do you sell the scrap metals, you said you won't have any problems selling the single earring. Thank you for the great videos.
@ThriftHunter5 жыл бұрын
@@MsBiayna I sell most everything on eBay these days. You can sell scrap to mail-in refineries if you have large quantities (usually 100oz silver or 1oz gold requirements). Some people live close enough to some refineries that they can just walk in and take it there. I like eBay because there's a chance it could go for over scrap and usually my scrap goes at about 94% anyway.

Hi, the mark on the jade necklace's clasp may be the company name as it says "Fook" (Cantonese) or "Fu" (Mandarin) in Chinese which means happiness, good fortune or blessing.

EBay has been slow and there is a potential postal strike here in Canada. I love the Danecraft bracelet. I have one that I plan to give away.
@ThriftHunter8 жыл бұрын
Yeah eBay always tends to run slow during the summer. I am finding that stuff will sell it's just taking longer than usual. I'll have no offers for weeks then all of a sudden a bunch of things will sell. Should pick up during the winter. Thanks for watching.
