This song and video hit way too close to home. I've been trying to manage my depression for what seems like my entire life and it feels like I'll never really be well. But I am learning to function even when I feel like i was hit by a truck, and I'm kind of proud of myself for that.

The song & the video are amazing. Just like the book given to him in the video, those who suffer depression are given "tips" on how to get rid of depression or lessen the pain. When the "helpful ideas" are actually like the napkin being offered to the man in the video. Your wounds won't get better by simply wiping it off with a napkin. Depression won't go away by simply following a bunch of life hacks.

To me, this represents how people who are depressed would look like if the emotional wounds were physical instead. Maybe then people would take depression more seriously, rather than telling us to "snap out of it" as if we could turn it off and on like a light switch.
@jenniferking14915 жыл бұрын

I don't think that's the meaning of the video. Even though he's wounded and full of bruises no one is "taking depression more seriously" because of that. The bruises are just a metaphor for how he's feeling and how it gets progressively worse with time even though he's doing what people tell him to do in the "easy steps to the new you" book. And if you want to blame someone for society not taking depression seriously, blame these "depressed" kids nowadays who romanticized depression. It's their fault people don't take us seriously. They stripped away the meaning of the word, and no, they're not the minority.

I love Ben Cooper. I love this. All the music is everything i’ve ever thought alone to myself and struggled with. All of my “demons”, it seems like everyone is going through the same thing in different ways. We are never alone, the irony in it is that I(and others) feel isolated and alone and that is what pushes me to tell myself good things in hopes i’ll believe it. This music video kind of tells the story of the journey of telling yourself something but not entirely believing it, maybe a state of being manic or ignorance from sadness.

When my first love broke up with me, when my parents split up or when my dad died I turned to your music to seek comfort. Everytime I listen to one of your songs I feel a certain kind of melancholy, which I somehow learned to enjoy. I think of the past and of things that had to end but also of unexpected new beginnings that I found in all those endings. Long story short, thank you for putting out your music!
