This song and video hit way too close to home. I've been trying to manage my depression for what seems like my entire life and it feels like I'll never really be well. But I am learning to function even when I feel like i was hit by a truck, and I'm kind of proud of myself for that.

The song & the video are amazing. Just like the book given to him in the video, those who suffer depression are given "tips" on how to get rid of depression or lessen the pain. When the "helpful ideas" are actually like the napkin being offered to the man in the video. Your wounds won't get better by simply wiping it off with a napkin. Depression won't go away by simply following a bunch of life hacks.

To me, this represents how people who are depressed would look like if the emotional wounds were physical instead. Maybe then people would take depression more seriously, rather than telling us to "snap out of it" as if we could turn it off and on like a light switch.

"if the emotional wounds were physical instead" I have been saying similar for so long! OR "If you could touch someone, and even if just for the briefest moment transfer how something felt / feels: either there would be less wars and infinite compassion, or no one would ever touch..."

I don't think that's the meaning of the video. Even though he's wounded and full of bruises no one is "taking depression more seriously" because of that. The bruises are just a metaphor for how he's feeling and how it gets progressively worse with time even though he's doing what people tell him to do in the "easy steps to the new you" book. And if you want to blame someone for society not taking depression seriously, blame these "depressed" kids nowadays who romanticized depression. It's their fault people don't take us seriously. They stripped away the meaning of the word, and no, they're not the minority.

I love Ben Cooper. I love this. All the music is everything i’ve ever thought alone to myself and struggled with. All of my “demons”, it seems like everyone is going through the same thing in different ways. We are never alone, the irony in it is that I(and others) feel isolated and alone and that is what pushes me to tell myself good things in hopes i’ll believe it. This music video kind of tells the story of the journey of telling yourself something but not entirely believing it, maybe a state of being manic or ignorance from sadness.

i'm impatient so here are the lyrics from what i could hear; another evening spent in the corners of my brain where i wander off into the dark and i close my eyes and hope the wolves won't follow me but hope's hard of hearing, so i'm waiting for the teeth i had to learn that the helping hand can be the same that holds the knife i know i'm not well but i'm alright you gotta learn how to take your hits when your hands are always tied i know i'm not well but i'm alright i memorize the ceiling with a fire at my feet while i give myself advice that i can't keep i no longer ask myself what any of this means i just want my mind to quit so i can finally fall asleep yeah i'm just waiting for my mind to quit so i can finally fall asleep i kept falling for the broken wing because i couldn't pick the flight but don't believe them when they tell you that the bird won't bite i can't tell you if it got this way or if it started as a lie i know i'm not well but i'm alright [break] i kept falling for the broken wing because i couldn't pick the flight but don't believe them when they tell you that the bird won't i had to learn that the helping hand can be the same that holds the knife i know i'm not well but i'm alright

Start to finish, the song, the lyrics, the video are all brilliant. Poignant while still maintaining a fantastic sense of humor. I loved all of it. I gotta ask though.. how the hell did you manage the dance moves at the end (party scene) without cracking a smile??? The fact that remained so dead inside is just amazing!! I intend that as a compliment of course. Well done!

Everytime there is a new Radical Face release is a good day. Your music has been with me in so many key moments of my life. When my first love broke up with me, when my parents split up or when my dad died I turned to your music to seek comfort. Everytime I listen to one of your songs I feel a certain kind of melancholy, which I somehow learned to enjoy. I think of the past and of things that had to end but also of unexpected new beginnings that I found in all those endings. Long story short, thank you for putting out your music! I hope to see you again sometime in Germany. Your concerts with Rickolous in Heidelberg und Frankfurt were really special!

First heard the song without the video and i wish i could go back so my first time hearing it was with the video. Really beautiful use of both media, the dry comedic tone of the book pages and the way the shots are relatively still and centered around one element reads like a Wes Anderson film and the message hits so hard. How do I tattoo this whole music video onto myself.
