This video was shot by my good friend, Destyn Patera, who filmed it entirely alone on some deserted farmland in South Georgia over the course of two nights. The time lapse shots alone took 4 hours each, and on the second night he was even stalked by what he assumes was a coyote. He never saw more than the eyes shining in the brush, but it was certainly no housecat and kept creeping around the building over the course of an hour. He tried to ignore, but between the animal and the cold, he got out of there soon after. I owe him one. Hahaha

Ok, as much as I would love to think this is about the dust bowl and the dust bowl only, I think that it references the Dust Bowl as a metaphor for depression. Where you feel like no matter what you do, the sun (light) is always drowned out and you're once again stuck in darkness, trying to find a way out with no avail. And the person he speaks of is someone who is trying to help their loved one through their depression, who is able to see the light in the dark that the other person can't see no matter how much he tries, and the storm is yet another wave that hits on those bad days. And god thinking about this now just makes this song all the more powerful, awesome, and down right eerie

I know your comment is 5 years old already but as someone who's suffering from DPD (Depressive personality disorder) this song hits home like three tons of bricks. I've learned a little of the "Just ride it out, just last for one more week, one more day, one more hour."-mindset in my years of suffering. The waves can be ridden out but god-damn are they rough.

I love how this video captures the eerie feeling that fits so well with your music. It's haunting, and yet I keep coming back to it because it's so comforting at the same time. Your friend certainly knew what he was doing when he shot this video. It's beautiful.

And if you are lucky they'll understand. I showed it to a friend. I thought she would appreciate it but sadly, that didn't happen. Maybe she was not paying attention. Or the definition of beauty was different. I don't know. Sometimes I love things ppl consider ugly, grotesque or boring. I hope that doesn't mean I am boring. Sometimes I feel like dry as dust bc of ppl letting me know softly that what I like or listen to is not good. *confession time ends*

Pure Genius, David. You have created an entirely new genre of storytelling! I just "discovered" you this week.... And saw you and your band last night at Meow Wolf in Santa Fe. ( You not surprisingly had not had a chance to see the Meow Wolf Permanent Exhibition you were playing inside and so have NO Idea how fitting it was you were playing the the Meow Wolf Dream/Childhood/Nightmare/Memory/ Spiral Reality/ Multiflow House. When after you take your one year hiatus and I ( as I vow to do) bring you and the band back to play three shows ( or more) in New Mexico we can put you first in the Indian Deco KiMo Theatre in Albuquerque ( seats 660) and then give you a whole day to explore Meow Wolf before you play there the next nigh( cap 400). Them be the headliners on a Saturday ( in ABQ ) at U. of New Mexico's Keller Hall ( Cap. 300)as the featured artist on a Romancing the Horn Chamber Music Series Concert. We'll fit in a day trip to Acoma Pueblo too , somehow.( 45 minutes west of ABQ) You can meet my "Auntie" there. We will take her mother's Acoma pot ( circa 1940) for another visit. Warm Regards, Taom MacDougall - Romancing the Horn Chamber Music Series ( The best in Classical and World Music) and Owner and Head Wrangler of Integral Tao, LLC. taomhorn@gmail.com P. S. Great band too..... Especially love what Josh did with the cello... As you may have guessed, I play the horn We share the same 4 octave+ range.... ( I use just natural ( but "extended" acoustic techniques on the horn... Up Until Now...... (-;

The sweat cuts rivers in the dust on your face while the wheels beneath complain the wind still whistles through the haze the sun shines like a razorblade and the bones of crops and banknotes pave the way the highways are lined with graves like the fingernails of giants like blood pulled through a vein we rush the west in silence and I am not the one you wanted here but I will fill my post heaven's touch is often out of reach to those who want it most you wear a rose from yesterday like the world is green and overgrown and I wear a handkerchief around my mouth to keep the dust and ashes out I dream a glass of water with you dreaming of the sea and I watch my feet in you and would watch the sky and we would wonder why our eyes no longer meet It was hard to call the thing we saw a storm like it had climbed out from the pages of some novel and the sheets of dust hit everything like waves against the rocks it was morning but I'd be damned if I could tell but you would hold my hand and close your eyes and I didn't mind when hell bares its teeth you learn your place and this godforsaken sun could be the moon for all it provides eyes are on the road before it disappears again

The musical theme is based on similar chords although in a slightly different progression. Even though the stories might not be connected, the callback may hint some contextual similarities between them. I would dive into it, but right now I rather turn my head to the window and enjoy the view from the back of a train
