If we're going to go shopping, though -- and sometimes we do -- that market looks like a pretty fine place to go.

She doesn't do the stuff much justice. But then again Literature boffs tend not to understand philosophy too well.

It's a 4 or so minute video so I think it's just supposed to be a quick rundown to get people interested in the book.

This is an incredibly dissappointing explanation of instrumental rationality and the critique of instrumental reason.

I Love Robert Smith. Dialectic smectic. Self consciousness is only contained in relation to the other. Hegel smegal. Absolute spirit. Yes total geist.

Horkheimer, Adorno and Badiou talk pretentious, contrarian nonsense, in my opinion.

S Gurney Horkheimer made a cogent criticism of philosophical pragmatism.

4 minutes of the obvious, some kids want to be a false person to be cool and hip. Horkheimer discovered nothing as a overpaid @#%$ . His instrumental reason is to many whiskey while "working".

Because manufacturing, selling and wearing hipster t-shirts is absolutely essential for human development. Keep talking swetheart, ignorance is such a bliss.
@biistful
@biistful 7 жыл бұрын
That is why wearing a hipster t-shirt is exactly pseudo individualism and "instrumental reasoning", a person wants to fit in, play a social role and identify to a certain group etc., and to gain benefits from these outer expressions. That is what Horkheimer is critiquing, the egoistic consumer culture, which is a result of many things, such as fe. englightment, rationalization and abstraction . And if we all reconsidered our consuming habits and over all the very materialistic and instrumental values, morals and the way of our lives, that is something crucial for human development and SURVIVAL.

Horkheimer is good only at critiquing and destruction, like every communist ideologist. Catholic social doctrine is historically the only successful way to build prosperity.

Capitalism does not come from Catholic social doctrine, it was invented by Calvinists.

Think about the amazing stupidity of making a *critical theory* up to say what everyone on planet Earth with an IQ over 60 knows: that hippies are conformists and not the wonderful individualists they imagine themselves to be. Oh, but Max noticed they *buy things*. Honest to God, is there anything more stupid than the Frankfurt set.

Yes, but they were doing in the 1930s and1940s what seems obvious to everyone today.

She could make a pseudo- individualistic, non-reprisive, counter- culturalistic jesture, I posit,(arms flailing about all the while) by submitting to a recto-cranial invertion into Camden lock!
