A few things to note: * MultiMC is having trouble with Curseforge lately and after several updates you'll see different modpack services like Modrinth now. They do plan to bring Curseforge back if they can. * Yes, MultiMC is safe. No, it's not the same as a cracked Minecraft. You need to OWN Minecraft to use this. * Yes, you can play with snapshots and experimental updates. Just toggle the box when creating a new instance. * Yes, it works with all your favourite mods like Sodium, Lithium, Starlight, etc. and it works with shaders.

@@AlfredoKnightX You'll need to install Minecraft and at least open it once so all the necessary MC files can be installed, correct. Then MultiMC will take over. FPS is based more on mods like sodium, lithium, starlight than MultiMC vs Vanilla

Let's go! That's a win all around. I will say that I've moved from MultiMC to Prism but they're VERY similar. Prism just allows you to download updates to your mods much easier and select mods much easier. But if you don't mind the manual download of mods, MultiMC is awesome still. :)

Hey I'm having an issue and I've been trying for a while to fix At 00:39 for me it says No versions are currently available and an Error: Unable to access jarfile And yes I have installed java and I can play Minecraft with any other launcher. If you have Java installed, all you should have to do is click Browse, point at the javaw.exe and it should see where it's at. It must think it's in a default folder but maybe you have it somewhere else? Also, just an FYI but I have moved past multiMC to something called the Prism Launcher. It's well worth a look and I'll be doing a setup vid on that soon, I hope.

What version are you trying to use? If you're on an instance that requires a diff level of Java, you can change it either in multimc as a whole but will have to change it back to play other versions (that's the bad way) or do this: Click the instance > Edit > Settings > tick the box for "Java installation" and browse to the correct Java for the Minecraft you want to play (or use Download Java / Auto Detect, etc.) and then launch. This is the best way to setup individual instances. 1.20 requires Java 20, 1.21 requires Java 21 and maybe 1.18 requires Java 19, etc. I'm sure that info is findable on the internet though if you need specific older versions.

Every time, if i add mircosoft or mojang account to MultiMC 5, it always says "microsoft user authentication failed." and "Mojang user authentication ended with a network error."

Are you using some kind of Skins manager? That's the only thing I could find that would continuously do that if you own Minecraft and know your login details. try logging in on Mojang's official page to make sure everything works but if you're using some kind of skin launcher you may need to reset your skin through Minecraft.net and then try again?

I’m at 1:20 in the video and whenever I launch the instance it won’t load. A really long error message appears and it says “Minecraft 1.18 Pre Release 2 and above require the use of Java 17” at the the bottom. Can you help pls??

You need to go download Java JDK 19 (I think that's the newest) and install it. After you do, select that as your Java in the settings and you'll be good to go. :)

Yeah forge wasn't out until November of 2011, I think the first one you can install is 1.1 so you would prob have to play modless until then. I don't believe Optifine even goes back before 1.6 or 1.7 on their own site now. Nuke TNT only goes back to 1.4.5 ... are you sure you're after BETA 1.7.3 and not Version 1.7.3? They are very different. The beta had none of those things available.

You could try manually installing the oldest forge there is but no guarantees it'll work ... it says it won't but it's possible? The oldest MultiMC has should be 1.3.2.1 ... if you can find an older one like 1.0 or 1.1 or something it may work as well. Very hard to say on those older ones. You should be able to get any old java version by searching for "old java versions" - but be sure to know which one you need. Sorry I can't help much with the very very old stuff.

Sure, until you want to add mods and have them vary across different worlds or instances. Managing worlds, mods, configs & options that change when you change is MUCH easier in MultiMC and Prism Launcher. Prism is the newer/better fork of MultiMC and even downloads mods for you automatically so when setting up a new instance it finds the right version of each mod for you so you don't have to go to a website and get each one individually. If you don't think it's better, that's cool ... up to you how you launch the game, but MultiMC and Prism are great for me and plenty of others. :)

Click Settings, Java and then use the 3 dots to find your Java installation. It's very likely you have one. you just kinda have to find it but I would look in c program files oracle type areas ... maybe program files 32

Generally what I do is use the most recent for the version you're on so a 1.18.2 may have an update for April and March and Feb - so use the April. If it doesn't work, I'd work my way backwards until it does. There's really two bits: Fabric or Forge, then MC version. If you know which version of Minecraft, get the current Fabric or Forge FOR that version, and then all your mods match that version, you'll be good! :)

You should have java somewhere on the pc ... the problem I've found with it is that some people have it in one place, others in another place and some have custom installed it. You may have it in /Program Files/Java/jdk-19/bin/ You may have it in another folder inside /Program Files/Java/ Or it may be elsewhere. If you go to the java website there's a "tester" though to see if you have it at all. If not, yeah just install jdk-19 or something and you'll be fine. :)

Yes, MultiMC and Prism Launcher require login and require you to own the game so they are safe, legal launchers. Things that don't require you to own Minecraft are far less safe and legal. I now use Prism Launcher myself (video on my @RadicalExtras channel). You are correct.

Microsoft has been having an issue on their end, yeah. Try logging into the default launcher first maybe? Make sure you can get in plain Jane vanilla

Sometimes Win doesn't like this program. As long as you got MultiMC from the proper source (multimc.org) it is NOT a risk. If you downloaded it anywhere else, I just wouldn't know. But the actual one does turn up sometimes on these programs. 100s of 1000s of people use it without issue, though. I would just whitelist and run it - or maybe make 100% sure you got it from multimc.org THEN trust it. lol

You should have error messages that tell you what's going on in the smaller window that does pop up. It will tell you if you are on the wrong java, if you have incompatible mods, etc.

So I have been trying to wrap my head around what benefit MultiMC has over the regular launcher and all the things you stated I can do on the vanilla launcher. If I want an install with vanilla, I just choose that install and launch MC. If I want to play in my multiplayer world with mods, I choose that mod installation version and launch. I don't see the benefit unless I'm missing something.

Let's say you're playing a 1.20.1 server ... modern Minecraft. But the server doesn't update to 1.20.2 immediately. You want to test the new villager changes so you create your own 1.20.2 instance and play that. Then 10 seconds later you can play your server. Now, your friend says "Let's play Terra Swoop Force! It's a fun elytra race" and you do but it's on 1.16.4 and you want to run that without changing your 1.20.2 or 1.20.1 stuff ... now you can. For me, I play a bit more "modded" with things like maps when I'm on servers. I can't be bothered to remember where things are so I use Xaeros minimap. On my hardcore world I don't. So now I just have two different instances of Minecraft and I can launch whichever I want from the main screen. With multiMC (or Prism, which is slightly better these days), it's basically separating out your versions - they get their own world folders, their own screenshots and their own mods. It's just much, much easier. I used the vanilla launcher for years but this simplified everything for me.

I don't know how any of that is easier than using the installations tab on the vanilla launcher. I play a pure vanilla single player world with zero mods. No mod loaders, no mini maps. Just playing with that Mojang provides when you download. I just change the version to the unmodded one and play. Then when I want to go onto my private server, I choose the fabric installation and go onto the server. I just don't see how multimc or prism is any easier. I did try multimc for a bit but didn't see why I was using it. It changed nothing for me. Well, almost nothing. I uninstalled it and lost my single player world because it doesn't put your saves anywhere you can access out side of using multimc so my world of like 2000 days playing pure vanilla is now gone. I didn't realize it did that and I couldn't retrieve my save and bring it over to the vanilla launcher. Lessons learned but aside from that, it didn't do anything different for me than the vanilla launcher. @@RadicalElder

I also play a couple different modded versions like raftcube and such. they are different versions of minecraft. if you play with the vanilla launcher you get one mods folder. you will get errors when trying to load mods that are not for that version and minecraft will not load. thats the point of MultiMC. you can have different instalation folders in vanilla but i have had issues with that. if you do not play multiple versions then you dont really need MultMC

I don't know what you mean. If you don't own Minecraft, you can't play. If you do, and you've connected everything up you need to click Add Instance to start your first version.

Open a command prompt (normally just search for CMD and press enter) then type "where java" without the quotes just where java and hit enter. That should tell you the location of YOUR java install. Use that location instead of the one in the video.

Then you should Google Java 21 (if you want to play 1.21) and install that as you don't seem to have any Java installed. Java 18 for older versions and much older Java for much older versions.

I probably won't make a video like that because most people don't use optifine nowadays - they have moved to better stuff in 1.16+ like Sodium + Iris, which seems to outperform Optifine in almost all cases. I would consider one on those mods but I'd rather just make an updated version of this video for Prism and explain that all in one video, honestly.

It would be whatever account you migrated to back when the migration stuff happened I think ... it does have to be a Microsoft account these days. There are no "mojang" accounts now.

This video is for quite an older version so menus may have changed. You should be able to just hit finish and then setup a new instance but I haven't used multiMC in a bit. I use PrismLauncher now which is a fork (variant) of this. :)

You can't use the "mojang" login anymore, you have to use the Microsoft one, and your "username" for MC and your "account name" are probably different so make sure you're using the right credentials. I found it easier to login to microsoft first, then click the link thing with the code, and it logged me right in.

You'll need to find where your Java is installed on your own pc. You could have a custom directory - no way for me to know where it's at or if it's even installed. Try C:/Program Files/Common Files/Oracle/Java/ as a default. Otherwise, unsure.

Thanks this sounds a lot easier then using the default launcher. BTW How is anyone supposed to know the Fabric API mod is required to use Fabric? Does it mention anywhere that that is a dependency. I never used Fabric, only Forge and Lightloader, that's why I ask.

Yeah, the Fabric pages anywhere you get it tell you but not within MultiMC itself. I have moved to a version of MultiMC called Prism that's actually better. I would start there if I were you. It's nearly identical to MultiMC as it's a fork of the same code but it allows auto download of mods from modrinth and curseforge, easy updates, etc. When you try and launch with just Fabric installed I think it says "requires the Fabric API" so you'd probably generally find out through an error message, which is silly.

Well made video, thanks for thoroughly explaining how to use MultiMC! I've been out of the MC scene for a while; when i stopped playing, Forge was the only mod/engine that worked for running mods and had to be installed manually and was difficult if you didn't know where to go within File Explorer(or Finder on Mac) to set everything up. Wasn't a problem for me, but it was difficult to get my friends set up with mods. I'm glad to see there's 3rd party programs now that automate all of that and make modding super easy. Also, does MultiMC have a feature to set up servers for specific instances of Minecraft? Or will i still need to set that up manually? Thanks for the tutorial, cheers!

Have you installed the Minecraft java launcher itself first? You need Minecraft on your PC for MultiMC to work - I don't know much about the gamepass version, though, sorry.

Yes this is a launcher not some kind of cracked MC. You need to own, install and have opened Minecraft at least once outside of the launcher for this to let you play.

If you have an existing instance you mean? Or you can't login. I'm not 100% sure I am following. If you have an existing instance that won't be transferred - you'll need to move saves and whatever files over that you want to keep using. If you mean login, get started on the actual site and make sure you know your details.

Hey so i have a non functioning java path. ( says incorrect java arugments but i haven't put any ) I'm trying to find the correct website to download the 1.8.0 java file ( version 1.12.2 of minecraft ) And i can't find nothing. Is there something i'm doing wrong?

Hm I haven't done the "older" versions, only newer (some people have java, some people have java development kit)). If you're using JDK for newer versions, you may just need "java" by itself (like a standard java? idk) for the 1.8 ... I wish it just all used 1 java, though.

Do you own Minecraft? If so, confirm you can login at Minecraft.net then add those settings to MultiMC under Accounts.

You should be able to just Google Java 21 (for 1.21) or Java 18 (for most of the previous versions). Then install that and add that to your settings in multimc.

It used to be there as an option. Nowadays you have other options like Modrinth - the video is a bit older when Curse was still involved. I know they are working hard to get access to Curseforget back.

Depends on the errors, I would think. If you've downloaded the zip it should be fine. I haven't used MultiMC in a little bit as I've updated to Prism Launcher but I still use a separate launcher for modpacks like ATM9, FTB, etc.

I definitely have a working 1.21.1 instance ... that's very strange. You may have Java 21 but is that what MultiMC is using? I would make sure it's the ONLY version you are giving access to - if it is, maybe run 1.21 in the vanilla launcher first, then try?

Hey, whenever I try and play Minecraft using MultiMC, it says "Minecraft 1.18 Pre Release 2 and above require the use of Java 17." Any idea on how to fix that?

Search Google for JDK 19 and you'll need that version or above. 17 was the old but I currently have 19 and it works fine.

Generally that means your Minecraft hasn't been run or is very out of date or your multimc is out of date. If it's a fresh install of MultiMC try running MC from the vanilla launcher to update to 1.20 first.

I don't know what or where you mean. When you setup a new instance you can name it whatever you want. I name it with the version so I know which versions my instance is on. If you don't do this, right click an instance and click "Edit" in the Version tab you should see "Minecraft ............................. Version number" like 1.20.2

If you used autodetect and nothing was there, open a command prompt (windows search for CMD) then type where javaw and press enter. If nothing appears, you don't have it installed.

You should be using "Add Microsoft" and logging in with your new, migrated details. Don't use "Add Mojang" or "Add Minecraft" account. If you're doing that, you must have your details wrong - check on the website and try to login using the same credentials.

You need to add your java "path" (where it's installed) in settings. Mine, for instance, is C:/Program Files/Java/jdk-19/bin/javaw.exe

No, I don't believe it can install the Bedrock / Windows version. You should be able to get it from your logged in minecraft.net profile, though, if you already own Java.

I Know you probably don't check this comment section anymore but i was wondering if there was a way to create an instance with a world i currently have on 1.12.2 modded, see cause the reason i looked into MultiMC was because i want to safely create a new 1.18.2 modded instance so i can play newer versions of Ice and Fire, along with other mods i have.

You can by downloading the zip and adding it to multimc but curseforge is generally better for modded.

That's very strange. I've never heard about it doing that. If you're adding data to it and it's not saving it sounds like a computer permissions issue. Maybe run in administrator? I'm not sure - that's new to me.

Hello, I have an old version of MultiMC (0.3.8) were I have two modpacks, but I can't use them because: 1. I don't have a mojang account, only a microsoft one but MultiMC says I need to connect with a "Minecaft" account so I'm not sure what they mean by that. 2. I tried copying these modpacks to the new version of MultiMC but nothing worked. I found your video while desperately searching a solution to my issue and I thought you could help me with that. Nobody should have a purely "mojang" account anymore and if you do, it's time to get migrated ages ago. So you should only have one (microsoft login) Minecraft account now. Modpacks generally work best through Overwolf > Curseforge and I kind of stopped trying to force them to work in MultiMC, which is a half solution. I would probably get Curseforge, install the modpack, then copy the files over. That should be a straightfoward operation.

I think they removed it during all the Curseforge had viruses drama. TBH most of the community has moved from MultiMC to a launcher called Prism Launcher.

There is an option to add "offline" accounts and put in a "desired username" but tbh I've never used it. You could try to go down that route but I have no idea if you still need an account that way. In general, the launcher helps you play a MC that you already own.

Click "Add Instance" and it gives you a list of versions. If you're looking for a release version like 1.20.6 it will be there. If you want this week's snapshots you need to tick the box on the side that says "Snapshots"

Add Mojang is no longer supported if that's what you mean? Mojang accounts were merged or deleted a couple years ago now and everyone MUST have a Microsoft account to play.

Working Java is different than working Java Minecraft. It means MultiMC can't find your actual Java installation. In settings there's a place to connect your Java and it either isn't done or it's currently wrong.

You would have almost 100% definitely migrated to Microsoft by now. I don't even know if it's possible to still have a mojang account? When you migrated it should be to a Microsoft account of some type but I'm not sure how to help you with this - only you know your Minecraft login details.

Go to your Windows search and type CMD to open a command prompt. Type "where java" no quotes just where java If you don't have anything come up, you need to install Java 21 to play 1.21 or Java 17/18/19 to play most earlier versions. If you do have one come up, put that filename in the MultiMC launcher.

Yes, in almost all ways it functions exactly as your vanilla launcher. MultiMC just makes it easy to have multiple instances, specific ones, etc.

If you can get in there, login once on your computer and you should be fine to revalidate. If you don't own Minecraft. multiMC isn't a way to get it for free. It's a launcher, not a crack.

Do you own Minecraft actually or are you using something like TLauncher account? If you own Minecraft, it's most likely a problem trying to install RLCraft this way. You should probably swap to a native Curseforge / Overwolf for modpacks like RLCraft generally.
