Radio 1's Scott Mills on Only Fools on Horses

Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills finally rides a horse as part of the BBC/Sport Relief show "Only Fools On Horses". After a confidents start he takes a nasty tumble.

Yes that was abad fall speaking as an equestrian. Ive had many a fall & yes it is painful. He is was very courageous to do what all riders should do when they fall off - get back on. He was very brave WELL DONE SCOTT

Haha the description says that he takes a "nasty tumble". Bollocks. That was a lucky fall because he landed on his bottom. I had a fall where I scraped the skin off the lower half of my face and got concussion in a cross country accident. THAT was a nasty fall. I am a horse woman, and still ride every day and jump to my hearts content. It is a lifestyle that every rider learns to love, and small setbacks are regular occurrences you learn to live with. It's in the job description, and I love it!

He looks like he's making sure his foot is out of the stirrup which is a bloody good idea! My worst fall was off a maniac of a TB (he'd been kept stabled and fed on a ridiculous diet by his owner) and he was going mental and I realised I had to try and do a 'controlled fall' or he'd bolt/rear and fall back on me. So I was level with the bottom of the saddle flap and saw my leg had gone straight through the stirrup and I somehow managed to pull my body up by my right hand and use the left to pull my leg free. Then I pushed away and remember thinking 'Oh now I'm going to fall on and break my neck' so I twisted JUST enough to sort of land on my shoulder, on the road surface. Still have trouble with the left shoulder and it put me off riding for decades, and then I took my son to riding lessons and 2 weeks later was having lessons again. Then I finally bought my own horse and worked as a professional stablehand for a while. Want to get back into riding again- my 31 year old QH X TB is retired now. I adore him, the ambivalent sod x

People who have never rode a horse before yet alone been around one, always say things or act like they are going to die. I know it is a very dangerous sport, one of the top ten in the world for that matter. But I have been riding for so long and grew up around horses, I just don't even think about the risks anymore. Half the time I trust a 1200 pound horse that doesn't speak my language, more then a person. This all just humors me.

@MegMinstrelx He's a gorgeous horse, but I can't understand why he suddenly started carting Matt into the bottom of fences halfway through the series - it's almost like he said "I don't want to play ball now - we're going to do it my way". But he's still lovely :L

My horse was scared of water and 1 day some water hit her so she throw me off and i did 3 somersaults before landing crossed legged onto the floor
