No need to physically remove the radio, hold down buttons 1 and 6 at the same time, and keep holding them. The display will cycle through a bunch of stuff and included in that info cycle is the serial number (just looking for V followed by a bunch of numbers).

You can also take that little rectangle vent thing out and you can see the serial number through it. Will make life a whole lot easier.
