This song is the biggest surprise I've come across on youtube. And for the first time listened to the text. I've heard this many times since I heard it maybe a year ago, but I think live on Conan is almost better. But liked the reaction. Greetings from Norway

Be sure to watch their live performance on Conan. NOTE: David Draiman was really sick for the Conan live performance, and I heard he was not pleased with his performance. Being the perfectionist that he is, I can understand why he felt that way. However, the production as a whole performance was amazing, and his was EXCEPTIONAL! I loved it. Intro - reminds me of the "1985" Not a fan of song narration, so i wouldnt really call it a reaction unless you genuinely dont know what you're going to hear next, but having said that, its always worthwhile to have those discussions about lyrics context. Thats real music appreciation. Never stop learning! Have you heard of Voiceplay or Geoff Castellucci? Voiceplay is an acapella group and he's the bass with his own channel. (And has a cover of sound of silence) If you haven't, then i highly recommend them...for Voiceplay i recommend starting with either Valhalla calling or Oogie Boogie song (nightmare before Christmas) but you cant really find anything of theirs thats NOT phenomenal. For Geoff's solo channel though, it's imperative to start with 16 Tons

Beyond Awesome ❤️‍🔥 the whole package 😊 back in the 60s it seemed like the world was on the edge of ending, the song reflects that to me, and it might reflect that story in the Bible, revelation, 144,000 that were the only ones that could sing their song and the rest of us could only hear silence, but that all these warning were flashing out their warning and no one cared; that music(love) could die; and we all would be in darkness, until the end came, these are my thoughts, it would be interesting, to hear other people's thoughts, about what their thoughts are about this song, it would be fascinating 🙏

To understand the song, you must know the real story. Art Garfunkle went to Columbia in New York. He met a guy named Sanford Greenberg who loved music and literature like Garfunkle and they became great friends and soon roommates. One day Greenberg was at a baseball game and his eyes started failing on him. Soon he was completely blind. Greenberg quit school and went home and fell into a great depression. Garfunkle visited him often trying to convince him to get back to Columbia. Garfunkel told Greenberg to call him "Darkness" in sympathy. With a great deal of help from Art, Sanford did come back to Columbia. Garfunkel helped him to class, filled our forms and papers, etc. One day Garfunkle took Greenberg to Grand Central Station (10,000 people, maybe more.) Garfunkel told Greenberg he forgot he had to be somewhere and up and left him there to find his own way home (over streets of cobblestone...) Greemberg found the right train and in his mind he saw the graffiti on the subway walls. Greenberg finally made it back and bumped into someone who said, "sorry." Greenberg recognized Garfunkel's voice. Garfunkel was with him all the way home. Greenberg got his confidence back, went back to school and when Garfunkle needed money to get his first record cut, Greenberg gave him his last $400. Wiith that Sound of Silence was published. Sanford Greenberg went on to Harvard and Oxford and became a wealthy businessman.

@@jaradking3693 so was I, in fact it was Paul Simon that himself said the opening to the song "Hello darkness my old friend, I've come to talk to you again" was reference to the fact he had woken from a dream and once again gone to the bathroom in the dark to write, as he liked the acoustics there, which makes perfect sense, so I suspect while this story is fun, it's not correct....

This song was actually written by Paul Simon. Not art Garfunkel, and had nothing to do with what you're saying. I don't know if you wrote this as a joke, but you got a few people believing you. LOL. This was a viral Facebook post that was absolutely false. You can look that up on Snopes and you'll see what I'm saying. Snopes dot com search art Garfunkel. It explains the falsehoods of this story and then the truth.
