Hi, Evan. I also have the same head unit installed in my '01 330xi. While I have never encountered a blown fuse/bad wiring from the back of the unit, I have experienced occasional black screen (no startup) from the unit whenever I switch on the car. However this problem is usually intermittent and resolves itself and reboots after a couple of minutes. Very useful video for anyone with this unit and may have issues!

I still recommend Avin over any other brand for a couple reasons first being their customer service, second being build quality, lastly speedy boot time and very good UI

Great video, glad that you encountered the issue, we will get to know how the issue was resolved by Avin...I have another brand installed on my car been now over 2 years with no issue at all, is just the radio signal not so good compared to the oem unit

The classic radio is always the best. What I’ve done is buy a Bluetooth connection from amazon u use the oem radio connect to the back of it and put the radio back in and click cd and it connects to your phone. So simple so nice and u cant even see the Bluetooth thing. And you can still play cds. Cost £30. Company is called “BlueMusic” Lovely. Btw 2001 318CI ;) Pre facelift

never heard of that one i have the stock BMW blaupunkt business CD radio in my E46 coup and i bought the gromm bluetooth unit it was more expensive compared to the other ones like $150 i think but i got it when they an ebay coupon for like $120 i got this one because it sends the track information to the radio display i think it is the only one available that does that too bad it doesn't also send the call id info to the radio display , it does have steering wheel controls though for skipping tracks and answering calls using it with a phone that has hands free google assistant from screen off is nice even though GA is buggy AF the reason i never got a touch screen is because im not sure how it would work with hands free GA i assume you would need to have the android auto adapter but i have nevr seen anyone demonstrate in on one of these aftermarket touch screen e46 radios everyone seems to have an iphone

Andrea Mitchell yeah same with mine you can control the songs from the steering wheel ie skip track and increase/ decrease the volume. You know what this week I will make a video of it.

@@kouroshtashvishi5031 cool i will check it out but yours does not show the track information on the radio screen does it? mine does but it does not scroll the text the gromm has a micro SD card slot for FW updates but i doubt they would push a FW update to make the song album and artists info scroll across the screen or display the call id info , but that would be really cool if they did

Last year I had an intermittent problem with my Radio in my e46 convertible it turned out to be the ignion switch contacts worn out so replaced the rear contacts in ignition switch to fix the problem.

I now one thing for shure, the display is controlled by the navi computer, navi comp broken the radio will not work

Evan - Please!!!! do a follow up Video on this to let us know what Avin said? I was about to buy the Avin unit based on your prior review but really need to know if this is a systemic issue with these units? They're not the cheapest in the market, so hoping your issue was resolved with Avin?

The fuse on the back of the radios are for the internal amp. That fuse has nothing to do with the body harness. If it is popping that fuse there is something internally shorted or blown. My bet is if you stuck your nose up to the connector on the radio and gave it the Biden sniff test you’d smell burnt electronics.

Evan Goyuk - So far, my radio is solid, and I love it. No real issues yet, but I’ve only had it since June. The only irk I have is that I can’t get Spotify to auto-play when I start the car unless I am in carplay (shuck I never use). It’s probably a setting I haven’t figured out yet.

Hey dude! unrelated but I wanted to ask you how you got the steering wheel controls to work in the AVIN 4. I have the same headunit but as soon as i connect the canbus adapter the radio came with the car's blinkers, lights, and parking sensor all go crazy, it basically messes up the whole car. Did you use any specific settings?

That’s very odd to hear I just plugged in my canbus adapter and my steering wheel controls worked!

I have an issue with my radio. The sound goes away when the car gets warm, I dont have an antenna so that might be a problem. But when the car is cold, The radio gives sound normally but when i drive for 5minutes the sound just stops. And sometimes i have to go to the navigation volume and turn it louder or quieter for the sound to come back. Any ideas?
