Wow. With this video in hand It only took me 6 minutes to get the radio out! Most excellent! No I can ride in "bluetooth-applecarplay-android -xm satellite radio style! These folks who think that's it a lot of work seem to not be watching that you took your radio out in 5 mins RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEIR FACE! GOOD WORK!

Might be a daft question, but did removing the original unit effect the car alarm or anything like that? Thanks in advance :)

Thanks for this, it did help tremendously. One or two things to mention here; The 'Shake- Grab- Pull' technique mentioned - in reality is more like 'Shake-Grab-Pull-Swear-get dad to help-swear-then release'. Secondly you neglected to mention for an after market head unit you require 2 adapters, then if the screw holes on the head unit don't line up, you have to look get longer screws and washers etc. Lastly the montage was misleading it took a lot longer!

Thanks for taking the time to post this. Its an excellent instruction video. However, as a critisicm of Honda (not you), I find it almost unbelievable that one has to do all this just to remove a car stereo. I changed one on a seat leon just two years ago and it was a lot more straight forward. Thanks again for posting.

Can confirm that this video also applies to the SatNav and Automatic models of this car. The gearstick in an auto looks different obviously, and the SatNav model lacks the shelf (Its a double height unit) but for all practical purposes, things work the same. This video helped me successfully remove my old broken satnav unit from my 2004 Auto.

Hey man. Thanks for this video. I just bought a Civic and needed to replace the stereo in order to get Spotify etc. The only thing that I'd say is that there is a black pipe (which is visible once you take the first panel off) which is strapped to the upper panel by a clip. Where I thought the top panel would pop straight out, the pipe was preventing it from doing so. It flummoxed me for a few minutes.
@RomboutVersluijs3 жыл бұрын
Was that ar the Bottom or at the back? I got a 2001 civic steering left side. I saw a black cable attached at the bottom and unclipped that. But I can't get the console further out then 1-2cm. Something is holding it back. I bought I saw some steel cable in a black housing running parallel in the back, bits dark and I can't properly see

Great video, a huge help in upgrading the stereo in an Australian 2001 Civic Vi hatch. My Civic is a little older than the video - the panels are the same overall shape but the heater controls are in a horizontal line above the radio (which is DIN sized anyway so doesn't need an adaptor plate). The air diverter and temperature controls have mechanical cable links and must be disconnected to before the centre panel will come out far enough to access the radio bolts. Firstly disconnect the air diverter control cable which is easily accessed from inside the glove box area (turn the diverter control and see what moves under there). Secondly pull the centre panel out just far enough to see behind the temperature control and lift the cable off its post. When this is done the panel will come out enough to work on the radio. I used harness cables from Repco to connect a new Pioneer deck to the original cabling which worked like a charm - its too hot to think about soldering!
@RomboutVersluijs3 жыл бұрын
Ahhh this was what is was looking for. I got the same model I think, 2001 civic, steering on the left and control knobs abov. I got the panel loose but still felt it was hold back. I think I saw a cable running in there. I'll hope I can find that part your talking about. I did the a white mechanism behind the heater know, I think that's the one right
@RomboutVersluijs3 жыл бұрын
That cable on the temperature I so tight. I'm thinking when I poo it off I will never get it back on. I guess you can't remember if it had some slag, I can see the small ring around a white pin which moves when it set cold or worm, but that cable is very short. Can't reach it by hand, can barely get a screw driver in. Thing is the radio was already swapped but 1 speaker stopped. So I know it can be done, I just feel that cable has been tightened down orso. I tried looking from the other side of the fire wall, but I can see it come out
@RomboutVersluijs3 жыл бұрын
Ps how can you lift the cable up from the temperature cold/heat, the pin is pointing down in mine. I'm about to give up on this.

Very helpful video thanks. I recently bought a 2001 Civic. The CD player/radio won't power on (although, when I have the car lights on, the CD player/radio does light up (so, presumably, that proves that it is powered). I knew it dodn't work when I bought the car but I'd like to find out if it is easily fixable. It is an automatic but the layout of the dash is very similar to what is shown in your video. I have a question about the tool you are using to remove the bolts. It appears to be a screwdriver-type socket wrench (with an extension) but, for the second bolt, (the one on the steering column side) you appear to be using it at a right-angle. Is that correct? I s it possible to get hold of socket screwdrivers that work at right-angles? Thanks

Great simple video! As a bit of a novice to this, although it looks simple, for putting an aftermarket stereo on (Sony CDX-GT540UI), as I currently have the stock stereo, would I need to buy a fascia and would I need to buy any cables/adapters? Its a Type S 2005 3dr (UK right-drive). Thanks! :)

Just picked up a really clean, low mileage 2001 Civic auto. I'm looking to do the same thing with a double din. My question is, does the auto shifter unscrew in a similar way?. I notice there's a small lift out trim to the left in the fascia, is this something to do with it?

1) Make sure you plugged the stereo back in. 2) Check you haven't popped a fuse I would presume the keyless entry must work through the stereo/fuse. Hope this helps :)

@bobymanavalan38989 жыл бұрын
I just managed to fit aux cable to my car. Honda Civic, Inspite S (2003). I did take a bit long to spot the two screws and it was difficult to remove too. It was really hard to remove the section stereo section. Even though it looks easier in the video, it is not. I managed to figure out the easiest option. When you remove the case surrounding the gear you will be able to see part of the metal body where stereo is fixed. Hold the frame and pull it carefully rather than shaking the whole set as shown in the video. Remember to remove two screws before pulling it out. It is working perfect, As it was a try I didn't buy the expensive cable, only paid £15, but don't feel the difference apart from I am having to up the volume two levels ( I am only taking about increasing the volume from 10 to 12) There are two types of cables and different sellers are giving different information, so I removed the stereo first to check and purchased the cable afterwards. A big thanks for the video Cheers !!!

Yes the procedure was very similar in all the steps. The main trouble I had was getting the new panel to fit inside the rest of the dash but that's a separate issue.
