That "preamp" looks like a TX power amp to me. For me, a preamp goes in front of a receiver to boost its sensitivity. Have a great holiday and I look forward to your forthcoming videos !

The radioberry and the preamp board need to be integrated together into a new board that has connectors for the CM4 module. At that point the board will be more suitable for a case but also be a bit easier to power and cool. Nice video series.

A "preamp", also called LNA for "low noise amplifier" is a device designed to amplify receive signals for further processing. An amplifier that outputs 5W is a power amplifier, albeit low power.

It looks like the preamp board was intended to be flipped over when mated to the Radioberry. That would eliminate the crossover in the RF cables between the two boards. However it’s clear there would need to be more space between the two boards if you did that.

I have a Pi 4 and it gets really hot at times. Is it possible to mount the HATs under the Pi and do a pair of 30mm fans on the side for cooling??

I removed the standard pi pins and replaced them with extended pins - now i can mount things above or below my pi - pout spacers in - have fan decks and solid copper heatsinks this is not a task that inexperienced solderers should undertake

+1 on the group buy, Makefabs (or Hermes-lite fame) comes to mind just like they did for Hermes-Lite 2 kits/assembled boards. Mat have a good holiday, but remember the A/B comparison between Hermes-Lite2 and Radioberry+Pre-amp video since you are the only person on earth you probably has all the parts to compare. 73 de k1jbd

not clear on why you call it a " pre amp " board ? Is the board used to pre amp received signals as well as amp the output RF ?
