Another great video, I have a question though, say I’m not using my 6s packs for 4 months during the winter months, I’m up in Bangor maine so it gets cold, I was told I should store them in my cold shed? But your saying to store them in the house at room temp? What is your suggestion? Obviously I store them in fireproof bullet military cases! Thanks
@RCexplained3 жыл бұрын
My comments about cold temperatures are for using or operating you RC vehicle. In terms of storage, I would always store at room temperature. Cold temperatures can slow down chemical reactions, but subject your packs to potential condensation when removed from a cold environment. I haven't studied these effects on a battery and as such avoid this situation all together.

Is there any benefit to charging your Lipo as slow as possible like one amp or less?
@RCexplained12 күн бұрын
Yes, maximum life span is retained and you can squeeze more mAh in to the pack at slower rates.

Can u use esc rating on bnf single motot rc plane to calc minimum c rating. Since telemetry doesn't include amps. In that case, how would it apply to quadcopters with individual ESCs say 30 (would u multiply by 4)?
@RCexplained3 жыл бұрын
If that is all the information you know, you can use the ESC Current Rating. Multiply this by the total amount of ESC's used. The ESC specification should already have buffer in the actual current drawn vs spec of the ESC. Your choice of battery using this method would be very conservative when adding an extra 50% to the total.

Buying lipos is a crap shoot, you read reviews, watch videos, half say it's a good brand, the other half says they suck. Some have good luck with the off brands, other's they fail quick. Name brands, the same thing. To be honest, I really haven't had any luck with the brands I have bought. So how do you choose? I have a 5th scale buggy and really need the higher c-ratings. I've had no less than 4 (maybe a few more, I've lost count) that have puffed and they were a name brand and kind of expensive ( $100+ ea ). I can't afford to keep buying batteries when they puff only after a few runs. Now I did find out it was the spektrum esc that was bad from the factory to cause the puffing. It has since been replaced with a better brand esc. But a couple batteries still puffed from the same brand. As far as the resistance readings, according to my charger, all my batteries are anywhere from 2.5 ohms to about 8. I storage charge them after they cool down, I don't over charge them, I don't let them sit with a full charge. I have the lvc set to high and it actually does a good job, shutting down when the voltage drops to anywhere between 3.5-3.8 volts per cell.

"Use the highest C pack you can" - this is not said enough. People mess around with C calculations estimating current based on some figure someone made up in a marketing department. Only advanced RC hobbyists should even consider low c packs IMO.

Some guy I know flies F5B competition(some serious lipo abuse) His friend was European champion.They pull 300a amps from 2000 mah turnigy packs. Regardless the C rating because it's simple not true. He teached me a couple of things. They all use lipo warmers. Put your lipo's in it the box 1 hour before flying, so the inner cells also warmed up. It will bring the internal resistance way down! Go to about 35' Celsius. And that will make your lipo's last much longer. And much more power But only put the lipo's in when you use them. Heat will also speed up the aging process a little bit, but flying cold lipo's will much more harm! C rating goes extremely up. I've tried it a couple of times. Much more power with my 3d planes. Lipo's stay colder because they have less resistance. The best way to store your lipo's is in the cold. Simple reason that cold slows the chemical process down. And the aging of the lipo goes slower. But you need to put the lipo in a sealed back. Condensation will hurt the lipo. Another thing is the C rating. Its all bullshit. The best packs tested max deliver 30a35c. Read through this topic if you have some spare time. The graphics and test results are very interesting:) www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?1767093-Battery-Load-Test-Comparisons

You fail to mention manufacturer specs you just go on about the highest c rating which is a joke as there is no standard, anyways Traxxas uses a 25c which is pathetic according to you but its what they design their vehicles to run on and perform on so why go bigger? Why would they not want their vehicles to perform at its best? Not one Traxxas I have seems to lack any kind of power when something as big as an Xmaxx can do a backflip just by punching the throttle there is no lack of performance. Even Castle says 30c or a high quality 25c like Traxxas right on their website I bet their 25c probably stomps half these cheap 60 70 c packs
